Georgia football recruit, 17, arrested over 'violent driving incident'... days before alleged accomplice is killed
Georgia football recruit Chace Calicut was one of two teens arrested this month over their alleged involvement in a violent driving incident - just days before his accused accomplice was shot and killed at a pool party. According to Fox 26 in Houston, Calicut and a fellow 17-year-old were charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the incident on July 6, which was a mere nine days after he committed to the Bulldogs. The four-star cornerback recruit, who is the No 114 player overall in the 2026 recruiting class, committed to the University of Georgia's football team on June 27. The alleged driving incident nine days later is said to have occurred in Calicut's home city of Houston, where he currently plays for North Shore High School. Court documents state that he is accused of driving in front of an unidentified male teen driver, who had an unnamed female passenger in his car at the time, and hitting his brakes to force the other male to slam on his own in a bid to avoid a crash, as per Fox 26. The other male then attempted to drive around Calicut's vehicle to get away, only for the Georgia commit to allegedly pull up next to him and drive erratically in front of and next to him. Calicut's passenger - who was identified as 17-year-old Isaiah Brice Phillip - is then accused of holding a hangun out and pointing it toward the other vehicle. Update: the deceased male has been identified as Phillip, Isaiah Brice (17). — Ed Gonzalez (@SheriffEd_HCSO) July 23, 2025 After he was able to elude the car, it is also alleged that the unnamed male heard several gunshots and that another friend had seen Phillip shooting out of the window. Calicut and the other driver, who claims the football star had been threatening him for months, are believed to know each other from school. He and Phillip were reportedly arrested and charged on July 18. And just over two weeks on from the alleged driving incident, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez has announced that Phillip was killed in a shooting that occured in the area on Sunday. Harris County officials said multiple shooters fired into a crowd of around 25-30 teens between the ages of 15 and 17 years old at a pool party on Liberty River Drive, with Phillip one of three who was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old girl was taken by ambulance to a local emergency room and then by Life Flight. The third person, also 15, was taken to hospital. Calicut is said to have had his first court appearance on July 22nd, where a judge set his bond at $20k.

Carson Beck calls decision to leave Georgia ‘very difficult' but says Miami is the right fit
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carson Beck planned to leave Georgia only for the NFL Draft. The transfer portal was never an option, and it wouldn't have been if he hadn't injured his right (throwing) elbow in December's SEC Championship Game. But, Beck said Tuesday, the injury forced his hand, sending him from one marquee program to another, Miami. Advertisement 'I made the decision to come here, and I feel like it's worked out pretty well so far,' Beck said during ACC football media days in one of his first public appearances since joining the Hurricanes in January. Beck said the decision to leave Georgia was 'very difficult,' but five years is a long time to stay in one place and the NFL wasn't the right option. Though his exit wasn't ideal, it could have been worse. Beck injured his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in the first half against Texas. Neither he nor Georgia's staff knew how bad it was at first. That's why he reentered the game briefly after his replacement, Gunner Stockton, got his helmet knocked off in overtime. Beck, fortunately, still had his helmet on the sidelines. He took a few practice snaps and felt comfortable enough to reenter in the emergency situation. Beck asked his teammates if they could end the game as quickly as possible, just in case. With his right arm frozen, Beck short-armed a handoff to Trevor Etienne, who scored on a 4-yard run. 'People are like, jumping on me and stuff,' Beck said. 'Yo, chill. I'm injured. That was a really cool moment, I think, to be my last play for Georgia and not (have) the injury be my last play.' As Beck considered his next stop, he said he was quickly impressed by the culture coach Mario Cristobal has instilled at Miami, which was a College Football Playoff contender into November last year. The demeanor of the staff matched his own, and the talent level is good enough for Miami to contend in the ACC. Beck is also a good fit for offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson's balanced attack, which helped another transfer, Cam Ward, develop into the No. 1 overall pick. 'It's just that freedom aspect and the trust that coach Dawson had in him,' Beck said. 'Ultimately, I hope that I can earn the same trust from coach Dawson, as well, through fall camp and then ultimately getting into games and making good decisions and being efficient.' Advertisement The Hurricanes didn't need much convincing to add Beck. Cristobal said 'everything' drew them to a veteran who went 24-3 as Georgia's starter. 'He's played in monster games, and he's played at a high level,' Cristobal said. 'He is ultra competitive, and his football IQ is off the charts. It didn't take long to realize that he's a team player, and that his work ethic is also through the roof.' Beck was limited in what he could do and show during spring practice as he recovered from elbow surgery. He said the time on the sideline forced him to study the playbook like a coach, potentially boosting his development. When Beck was fully cleared to throw in April, he still felt tentative. 'The last time that I had thrown a football,' Beck said, 'my elbow literally ripped.' During a workout in his hometown of Jacksonville, a trainer told him to let a throw rip. Beck did, and it spun out perfectly. 'I was like, 'OK, I'm good,'' Beck said. 'From that moment on, it was almost, like, compounding and got significantly better from there.'

4-star QB Teddy Jarrard is ready to commit
Four-star quarterback Teddy Jarrard is ready to decide where he will play college football. The class of 2027 passer is down to five schools: the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Michigan Wolverines and Penn State Nittany Lions. Jarrard will announce his commitment on Thursday, July 24. He had a chance to visit all of his top five schools this summer. The four-star is projected to commit to Notre Dame. The rising junior is ranked as the No. 195 prospect in the nation and the No. 15 quarterback per the 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 28 recruit in Georgia. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback has steadily risen in the rankings and is No. 52 player in the country in the Rivals300. Georgia hosted Jarrard on a visit on June 1. The Bulldogs are currently without any quarterbacks commitments in the class of 2027. Georgia has just two commitments in the 2027 recruiting cycle, which is normal at this point in time. Notably, the Bulldogs have a commitment from five-star class of 2026 quarterback Jared Curtis, who is projected to be Georgia's quarterback of the future. Jarrard plays high school football for North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia. Jarrard is the second-ranked quarterback in Georgia in the class of 2027. In 2024, Jarrard earned offensive player of the year honors with North Cobb. He totaled 2,783 passing yards and 34 passing touchdowns in 2024. He also completed an impressive 72% of his passes. Jarrard helped North Cobb go 11-2 and advance to the second round of the 6A high school football playoffs in Georgia.

David Pollack sends warning about new Georgia QB
Although the Georgia Bulldogs enter this season as the defending SEC Champion and are predicted to finish second in the league behind the Texas Longhorns, but former Bulldog David Pollack sent out a warning to new Georgia starting QB Gunner Stockton. On his podcast See Ball Get Ball, Pollack says it might be a rough season for the new Bulldogs QB. "Gunner Stockton cannot lead this team back to where they were a year ago if it's the same team," said Pollack. "If they can't run the football, it's not going to happen. Like they've brought in a bunch of receivers. That's (2024) the worst rushing season Georgia's had in 20 years." Last year, the Bulldogs were near the bottom of the SEC in rushing, averaging just over 124 yards per game. "If Gunner Stockton is a guy that can play action pass and use that part of his game and they do what Georgia has done with Stetson Bennett and Carson Beck and all these guys, he absolutely can be successful. If you're going to drop back and throw the ball 30, 40 times a game and not have a run game, I don't think he they're going to be back where they were (SEC champions and College Football Playoff appearance)," said Pollack. Georgia teams in the past have been known to have great defenses and a solid running game. The few times Stockton played last season, especially during the College Football Playoff, he looked solid, but now he plays a whole SEC schedule this season, and it won't be easy. "I think Gunner's a really good player," he said. "I think he's got a really, really good arm.' But he added, "I'm 100% sure if you're not going to give him a running game, it's going to be a tough season for the Georgia offense."

Georgia Bulldogs OL arrested, faces felony charges
Georgia Bulldogs sophomore offensive lineman Jahzare Jackson was arrested on July 16 on four separate charges. Jackson was booked in Clarke County Jail at 11:50 p.m. ET and was released at 4:17 a.m. on July 17 after spending approximately 4 and 1/2 hours. Jackson faces three drug-related charges including possession of marijuana over one ounce, possession and use of drug-related objects, and possession of marijuana less than one ounce. Jackson was released from Clarke County Jail after posting a bond of $5,030. The vast majority of Jackson's bond ($5,000) is due to possession of marijuana over one ounce, which is a felony. Jackson was initially pulled over in his 2017 Tesla for holding a cell phone while driving (a misdemeanor in Georgia). The 6-foot-10, 350-pound offensive lineman is known for playing three years of basketball with Overtime Elite before coming to Georgia. He appeared in all 14 games last season for Georgia in primarily a special teams role. Jackson was named to the SEC's first-year academic honor roll. The University of Georgia did not comment following Jackson's arrest. Jackson's arrest came the night after coach Kirby Smart addressed the media at the 2025 SEC media days event. Jackson will likely face a suspension and possibly more consequences as his future with the team is murkier now. Follow UGAWire on Instagram or Threads!
