As five more pvt. schools receive bomb threat e-mails, police lens on Germany-based platform

Five private schools in the Capital received bomb threat e-mails on Wednesday morning, which later turned out to be hoaxes but disrupted classes as the schools were evacuated and students sent home. The schools that received bomb threat e-mails are Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, St. Thomas School in Dwarka, Vasant Valley School in Vasant Kunj, The Mother's International School in Hauz Khas and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodi Estate. St. Thomas School in Dwarka received a hoax bomb threat e-mail on Tuesday as well. Since Monday, 10 educational institutions have received hoax bomb threat e-mails. According to a senior Delhi Police officer, the threat e-mails were received between 4.16 a.m. and 8.12 a.m. 'Richmond Global School was the first to receive the mail around 4.16 a.m., and The Mother's International School the last at 8.12 a.m.,' said the officer. 'Multiple teams from Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police and Bomb Disposal Squads were rushed to the site. The schools were evacuated and checked thoroughly, but nothing was found,' said the officer. According to the initial investigation, the e-mails were sent from a Germany-based encrypted e-mail service named Tuta Mail. 'The senders used TutaCrypt of Tuta Mail to send those threats,' said the officer. 'The medium used is an open source, end-to-end encrypted and makes it difficult to zero in on the true source,' added the officer. Earlier this year, the Directorate of Education issued standard operating procedures for handling bomb threats in schools, which included the installation of CCTV cameras in and around schools, devising evacuation plans, and conducting regular safety audits and mock drills. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal took to X to attack the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi, saying, 'For the third day in a row, bomb threats have been issued to Delhi schools. Neither Union Home Minister Amit Shah nor the BJP's four-engine governments seem to care about the safety of Delhi's children. The BJP is hell-bent on turning Delhi into a jungle-raj.' Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva had said that it was regrettable that AAP leaders were trying to 'politicise' the issue and 'create tension' in Delhi.

The dark side of cute designer cats like Taylor Swift's Scottish Fold

Cute cats have become social media stars as of late, with many people – celebrities included – showing off their felines with photos and videos that have received millions of hits. Pop queen Taylor Swift's round-headed, big-eyed cat, a Scottish Fold, is a celebrity in its own right, and model and actress Claudia Schiffer brought her own Scottish Fold to the premiere of a film – which also featured the feline. There is, however, a darker side to this trend. For example, animal welfare advocates say Scottish Folds, known for their folded ears, are the result of harmful breeding practices. Animals bred for specific traits, like big eyes, a flat nose or unique coat colours, can struggle with health problems for their entire lives. Some may have difficulty breathing or other physical problems. Taylor Swift with her Scottish Fold cat. Photo: Instagram/taylorswift Achim Gruber, a Germany-based veterinary pathologist, calls this 'defect breeding'. He says animals are being deliberately bred with genetic defects to achieve an extravagant or cute appearance, even though the health consequences for the animals have been known for decades.

Delhi School Bomb Threat Emails Were Sent From Germany? Exclusive From Investigators

At least five schools in Delhi received bomb threats on Wednesday – Richmondd Global School, Dwarka, Vasant Kunj, Paschim Vihar, Hauz Khas The origin of the bomb threat emails sent to Delhi schools on Wednesday, in the continuing series of such emails seen over the past year, has been traced to Germany, said investigators. However, they suspect the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) may have masked the actual location of the sender. A senior official involved in the investigation told News18 that the IP address of Wednesday's emails indicates a German network, with the email account also linked to a Germany-based provider. 'It appears to be a network IP, possibly associated with a public place or network, though the exact location is still being verified," the official said. Similar indicators were found in threats sent to other schools as well. At least five schools across the capital received fresh bomb threats today – Richmondd Global School (4.16 am), Dwarka (5.26 am), Vasant Kunj (6.30 am), Paschim Vihar (8.11 am), Hauz Khas (8.12 am). The threatening message read: 'Good morning. Explosive devices are hidden inside backpacks and placed around the classrooms of the school. This is extremely serious. You will all pay for your sins." The email also included a disturbing request to release certain withheld names to the media for publicity. Cyber investigators believe that the email was sent using Tuta Mail (formaly Tutanota), a Germany-based encrypted email service which recently launched new encrypted protocal. 'Tuta Mail, which recently launched a post-quantum encryption protocol called TutaCrypt, was used to send these threats," said a senior government cyber investigator. 'Tuta is an open-source, end-to-end encrypted email platform with over 10 million users. The company is also working on secure, post-quantum cloud storage solutions for the German government." Despite the technological barriers in tracing such messages, efforts are ongoing to identify the true source. Bomb disposal squads, local police, and cyber forensics teams were immediately deployed to all affected schools. As of now, no explosives or suspicious materials have been found. On Tuesday, St. Stephen's College and St. Thomas School had received similar threat emails, in the concerning trend of targeted hoaxes disrupting educational institutions across the city seen over the past year. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Truck maker plans to layoff 2,000 workers in the US, Mexico

Daimler Truck North America plans to temporarily lay off 2,000 employees from five facilities in the U.S. and Mexico amid weak market demand, the company said. The layoffs, which will be effective Friday, include two facilities near Charlotte, as well as factories in Detroit, Portland, and Saltillo, Mexico. Each site will experience different impacts based on local business needs, Daimler officials said. 'As we navigate a challenging economic environment, we've seen a notable slowdown in new truck orders, particularly in our medium-duty, on-highway, and electric vehicle segments,' Daimler Truck North America spokesman Andrew Johnson told FreightWaves in an email. 'To align with current market conditions, we've made the tough decision to implement workforce reductions across several facilities.' The layoffs in North Carolina include 546 employees from a manufacturing plant in Mount Holly, and 27 workers from a components and logistics site in Gastonia, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice. The job cuts include truck assemblers, painters, supervisors, material handlers, office supervisors, technicians, and logistics staff. The lay offs are expected to be temporary, but do not have a return date yet. Portland, Oregon-based Daimler Truck North America employs 29,200 people, according to its website. Daimler Truck North America operates manufacturing plants in Cleveland, Gastonia, High Point, and Mount Holly, North Carolina; Gaffney, South Carolina; Redford, Michigan; and Saltillo and Santiago, Mexico. Daimler Truck North America is a subsidiary of Germany-based Daimler Truck AG. The company's brands include Freightliner, Western Star, Mercedes-Benz, Fuso, BharatBenz and Rizon.
