Everything we know about Edinburgh Warner Bros film with huge Hollywood names

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Edinburgh locals have spotted Warner Bros trucks around the city in recent days, with filming for an upcoming project underway. Details have been kept under wraps, with residents previously speculating that the filming was for the upcoming Harry Potter series. It's now understood that the production is for Ghostwriter - a sci-film due for release in 2026. The cast includes Samuel L Jackson, Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega and Emma Mackey. It comes from director JJ Abrams, who is behind films like Cloverfield and the more recent Star Wars films. While the plot is a tightly kept secret, The Hot Mic has suggested the film is an '80s throwback film and follows the author of a series of novels who reveals that the mythical world he's known for creating is in fact real. Production is also said to be happening in London. Spots in Edinburgh such as West College Street, Merchant Street, Candlemaker Row, and Chambers Street are being used as filming locations. (Image: Edinburgh Live) Locals also spotted crews setting up in Holyrood Park back on June 3. None of the rumoured cast have been papped in and around the city as of yet, though one lifelong Samuel L Jackson claims to have had an interaction with his hero. Matt's partner, Rosie, told Edinburgh Live: "Matt finally had his dream come true this week when the legendary actor was spotted filming scenes for his new movie Ghostwriter in the city. Armed with only hope and a homemade sign that read 'I've had it with these motherlovin' waits!' he finally got the moment he'd waited a lifetime for." A release date hasn't been given for the film, though it's been suggested that it'll hit our screens next year. Warner Bros have been approached for comment.

Ghostwriter to step up in search for success

Ghostwriter is to step up in trip after finishing sixth in the red-hot renewal of the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh. Clive Cox's four-year-old has been something of a nearly horse since winning the Royal Lodge at two, running well in the Guineas, French Derby, Eclipse and the International at York without getting his head in front. This year began with another solid effort in Dubai, but after clipping heels just beyond halfway in Ireland he never looked like winning and Cox thinks now is the time to go further with him. 'He was on the back foot a little after clipping heels but that said I think the pace was so strong, it was a very fast time,' said Cox. 'I'm looking forwards to stepping him up in trip. I think after seeing that performance and seeing how he has matured mentally, that is the next step now. 'He's performed well enough without managing to get his head in front once again, but hopefully stepping up in trip will allow him to show a little bit more progress. 'I'm not quite sure where we'll do that, we'll see how he comes out of the race first. 'It wasn't ideal clipping heels as Rossa (Ryan) reported, but I'm not looking for any excuses. It was a strong race and it was another good performance, just not quite good enough on the day. 'Stepping up in trip, with maturity, is something we've talked about before and I think now is the time to take that step.'

Horse racing tips: Sunday, May 25

It's Irish 1,000 Guineas day at the Curragh on Sunday – the first fillies' Classic of the season in Ireland. The card also features the Tattersalls Gold Cup and our expert has a selection for both Group 1 races. Ron Wood's selections: Odds provided by William Hill and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (max 5). If you already have a William Hill account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use for this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. 3.05 Curragh – Tattersalls Gold Cup (1m 2 1/2f) This isn't always a deep Group 1 race but it's a good, competitive one this time around. It features last year's winner White Birch, the 2024 Champion Stakes winner Anmaat, and Kalpana, who won a Group 1 contest on the same Ascot card in October. There's also Los Angeles, the winner of last season's Irish Derby who most recently defeated White Birch in a Group 2 contest at this course. However, preference is for GHOSTWRITER. He came up just short in a few Group 1s last season and again in the Dubai Turf at Meydan on his reappearance in March, but that most recent outing was a decent showing behind three-race fit rivals in what was a competitive, international contest. He doesn't need to improve much. Selection: Ghostwriter @ 11/2 with William Hill 3.40 Curragh – Irish 1,000 Guineas (1m) Last year's star two-year-old filly, Lake Victoria, a triple top-level winner, will be the focus in this one. She reappeared with a sixth-place finish in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, which was fine considering she was reportedly late back into full training and seemingly needed the run. However, anyone taking a short price about Lake Victoria is putting a lot of faith in her coming on a bundle for the Newmarket outing. She finished behind the Ollie Sangster-trained runners Flight and Simmering, both of whom she faces again now – and it's easy to pick holes in her juvenile form, for all that she was winning everything. Dermot Weld's unbeaten Swelter is an interesting runner, but she's drawn wide and Lake Victoria's biggest threat may come from her stablemate JANUARY. The selection could need this run, her first of the season, but she twice finished second to subsequent 1,000 Guineas winner Desert Flower last term, so her form ties in some of the main players, and she's a sizeable type who has the potential to improve as a three-year-old.
