#SHOWBIZ: Norhan Mahmod dies at age 70
KUALA LUMPUR: Director and screenwriter Norhan Mahmod passed away at Kemaman Hospital, Terengganu, at 4:35 this morning, at the age of 70.
The news of Norhan's passing was confirmed by his ex-wife, Rozie Rashid, who is also an actress and screenwriter.
Rozie revealed that she was informed by her ex-husband's family that he had been unwell for a week and was taken to the hospital yesterday.
"His family members contacted me yesterday, saying that he had been ill for a week," Rozie told BH Online.
"Later, they informed me that his condition had deteriorated and sent a picture of the ambulance taking him to the hospital."
"Then, at 5am this morning, I received the news that my ex-husband had passed away. I was told that he had to be placed in a medically induced coma during treatment," she added.
Rozie shared that upon arrival at the hospital, Norhan was admitted to the red zone treatment room and placed in a coma due to a week-long fever.
When asked about her late ex-husband's health, Rozie said that he had not suffered from any chronic illnesses during their marriage.
"We have been separated for a long time, but throughout our time together, he never faced any chronic health issues," she said. "Perhaps his passing is due to his age, as he was 70."
Rozie recalled her last meeting with Norhan, which took place last year when she was in Kemaman for work.
"I met and spoke with him last year, after a long time. It was around the time leading up to the fasting month.
"I also visited my former mother-in-law," she said.
"I am close to my ex-mother-in-law, so I went to visit, and he happened to be there."
Rozie confirmed that Norhan Mahmod was laid to rest at the Kijal Islamic Cemetery in Terengganu at 10:30 this morning.
Norhan, who celebrated his 70th birthday on April 23, was known for his work as a journalist, director, and screenwriter.
He directed films such as Sejati (1991), starring Datuk Jamal Abdillah and Raja Ema, and also penned the screenplays for Gila-Gila Remaja (1985) and Janji Diana (2003).
