Sarbala Ji Box Office Collections: Gippy Grewal and Ammy Virk starrer opens with 12cr weekend worldwide
Punjabi film Sarbala Ji, the Gippy Grewal and Ammy Virk starrer comedy, had a good start at the global box office, grossing Rs. 11.50 crore approx in its opening weekend. The film collected Rs. 5 crore in India, while the overseas markets added USD 750K (Rs. 6.50 crore). The Gippy Grewal and Ammy Virk led film witnessed healthy weekend growth, with Sunday collections nearly doubling from Friday. Almost all of this growth came from the Punjab state, however, with the rest of India staying pretty much flat. The growth was massive in the Punjab state, where Sunday was more than twice that of its opening day. In Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, Punjabi films generally see big growth over the weekend, but here the film faced heat from the Bollywood juggernaut Saiyaara, which simply exploded at the box office over the weekend. The day wise box office collections of Sarbala Ji in India are as follows: Friday: Rs. 1.20 crore Saturday: Rs. 1.60 crore Sunday: Rs. 2.20 crore Total: Rs. 5.00 crore The film will now look to sustain its momentum, especially in Punjab, which is the main driver of the business. The Punjabi film industry has been struggling domestically. A couple of films have done well overseas, including Sardaar Ji 3, which has emerged biggest Punjabi film ever internationally. However, in India, only Saunkan Saunaknay 2 was able to score well, and even that underperformed its predecessor. Sarbala Ji could be another one with the growth over the weekend, giving it a shot. The early reports are decent, and the hold in collections on Monday will tell us more about the sustainance at the box office in the long run.

Sarbala Ji movie review: Wedding drama meets comic chaos in this Gippy Grewal-Ammy Virk family entertainer
Punjabis are perhaps most associated with their loud, fun weddings and the multi-starrer featuring Gippy Grewal, Sargun Mehta, Ammy Virk, Nimrat Khaira, Sarbala Ji (2025), makes this the perfect setting for a complete entertainer. Directed by Mandeep Kumar, the film weaves together comedy, drama and romance in a pre-Partition setting. Cousins Sucha Singh (Gippy Grewal) and Gajjan Singh (Ammy Virk) are like chalk and cheese. Sucha Singh is the life of every wedding while Gajjan shies away from marriage, being more interested in embroidery stitches and crochet. When flirtation with Rajjo (Sargun Mehta) leads Sucha to a pronouncement that he is never to marry, he is utterly dismayed. Meanwhile, Gajjan is all set to marry Pyaaro (Nimrat Khaira) who is far from being the docile, embroidery-loving woman that he dreams of. Content with working at the farm, and shunning housework, Pyaaro is completely smitten and transformed in love, eager to marry her beau. However, there are few twists and turns to be navigated. Watch Sarbala Ji movie trailer here: The film is set at a time when men from the groom's family would sometimes have to travel for days to the bride's home. En route to the wedding, Gajjan Singh's party is intercepted by bandits led by Guggu Gill, who kidnaps Gajjan. Aside from the passing moments of terror unleashed by the dacoits, the comedy ensues even with the supposedly menacing men. A hilarious scene is when the dacoits decide that Gajjan is feeble-hearted and needs to be emboldened. They start training him and Gajjan is taught how to shoot. The situational comedy relies on a few meandering scenes to keep the narrative chugging along at an even pace. The second half drags and a completely unexpected confrontation between the dacoits and their enemies feels largely motivated by a nostalgic throwback to Guggu Gill's dacoit films that ruled the box office in the 1990s. But the story takes an unexpected turn, leading to an inevitable confrontation, which nonetheless feels forced. Written by Inderjit Moga, the film predominantly features the older traditions of riddles and wedding rituals along with the historical practices and customs of undivided Punjab. But it is the sharp dialogues that truly stand out, especially in the first half, adding comedic spark to the scenes. Nimrat Khaira steals the show with her spirited performance and infectious verve. Her perfect comic timing paired with zingy dialogues is one of the highlights of the film. Ammy Virk moves seamlessly between comedy and action, channeling his impressive persona in Maurh (2023), seen in the dacoit scenes. Sargun Mehta and Gippy Grewal too give good performances that keep the momentum going. Stellar performances by Guggu Gill, BN Sharma, along with the rest of the supporting cast are commendable. The foot-tapping title track is complemented by several rhythmic songs that add to the atmosphere for the film. 'Bhul Janeya' is a beautiful melody sung by Danny and composed by Tasho; Gurlez Akhtar's earthy voice shines in the folk-inspired 'Jatta Ve'; and Ammy Virk and Nimrat Khaira infuse vitality into the melodic number 'Zimmewari'. 'Garari' is passable, marking a shift from the rest of the tracks as a chest-thumping, forceful song in line with the action drama that unfolds. It is refreshing to see multi-starrers in Punjabi cinema, with star power clearly reigning supreme in the excitement around this film. This feel-good comedy is sure to bring crowds to the theatres. Sarbala Ji movie cast: Gippy Grewal, Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta, Nimrat Khaira, Ghuggi Gill Sarbala Ji movie director: Mandeep Kumar Sarbala Ji movie rating: 4 stars

Taking Grandparents Along On Honeymoon? Internet Says It's More Common Than You Think
While many found the idea of taking family on a honeymoon unusual, a psychologist thinks bringing family on a honeymoon is an "interesting concept." Remember Gippy Grewal and Jasmin Bhasin's Punjabi film Honeymoon, where a family tags along with a newlywed couple on their honeymoon? Ever wondered what it would be like if that happened in real life? A Reddit user recently shared an article from The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) titled 'Why Mom is Coming on the Honeymoon?" This post quickly garnered attention, with many people chiming in with their personal experiences. A cinematic chaos isn't too far from reality. One person shared that their neighbour, whose Mother-in-Law and Father-in-Law went on their honeymoon with them. 'They felt they could because they gifted the couple their honeymoon to Hawaii." The post soon became a hub for bizarre and hilarious stories where several people shared the stories of their 'not-so-alone" romantic vacations. One recalled, 'My neighbours took their grandparents along on their honeymoon." 'My sister-in-law and her husband tagged along on my wife's and my honeymoon—I was NOT ok with it and it got our marriage off to a rough start," wrote the next. Another Redditor shared, 'My first wedding was in Vegas and I kid you not, at the hotel, my MIL was somehow assigned not only the room next door but also an adjoining room—as in there was direct access from one room to the other." While many found the idea of taking family on a honeymoon unusual, Thea Gallagher, a psychologist and the wellness programs director at NYU Langone Health in New York City, told Fox News Digital that she thinks bringing family on a honeymoon is an 'interesting concept." She mentioned that bringing family on a honeymoon can be a good idea, but only if both you and your partner agree on it. She advised against it if the couple feels like they can't enjoy the time alone together. The relationship expert told Fox News, 'I think it probably depends on your relationship with your parents and your agreement with your partner. It would be important for both of you to agree that this is a good choice." She further recommended that couples set clear boundaries and plan time alone together if the family is joining them. She shared that in-laws sometimes could create problems in marriage, such as crossing boundaries by interfering in their decision, giving unsolicited advice or being judgmental. Gallagher advised couples to practice empathy if the family joins them on their honeymoon. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
