Prince William gets a taste of Cornwall at show

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Edinburgh got the chance to sample some of the produce on offer at the Royal Cornwall Show during a visit. The royal duo headed to the event at the Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge on Friday to take a tour of the site and speak to visitors and groups taking part in the show. During their visit, Prince William and his aunt went inside the Food and Farming Pavilion and tried some of the items being showcased, including Cornish Ratler cider, as large crowds followed the pair around. The Royals then ventured off to separate parts of the show, which started on Thursday and runs until Saturday. Among the items the royals tried included cider and gin made in Cornwall along with pasties and preserves. After leaving the food and drink area, the Duchess of Edinburgh was shown around some of the cattle, pig and sheep on show and received a bouquet of flowers from a young girl. She also stopped to take selfies with punters around the showgrounds and spoke to organisations including the Girl Guides who had stalls at the event. Guides to walk and picnic

Get your walking shoes on and explore the Ivungu River Conservancy this Saturday (7th). The guiding fraternity celebrates 115 years this year, and to mark this successful milestone the Port Shepstone Teddies, Brownies, Girl Guides and Rangers collectively aim to walk 115km. Bring the family and friends and join the Girl Guides for a walk in nature followed by a picnic. All ages are welcome and the entrance fee is R10 per person. Funds raised go towards the conservancy. On a different note, the teddies and brownies have been 'busy bees' selling biscuits at R30 a packet. There are five different flavours to chose from. The girls are fundraising towards camping equipment. Panda Jolene Evans said the support has been amazing so far, and already the girls have sold more than 500 packets of biscuits. Elliana Olver (Brownie) and Briella Olver (Teddy) aim to sell 100 packets to get their badges. Both agree that the biscuits are delicious with the 'sprinkles' and 'choc chip' flavours being their favourite. If you would like to support the Guides, contact Panda on 072 148 5524. ‘Pay what you can': No price tag yard sale goes this weekend in Harrow

Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy hosts her 3rd Annual Mayors Charity Yard Sale this Saturday June 1, from 9-3 pm at the Harrow Soccer Complex. (Michelle Maluske/CTV News Windsor) Sherry Bondy is back with her third annual Mayors' Charity Yard Sale. 'I've done it a couple times, so we kind of have a system now,' Bondy said Monday while trying to find space in her storage bin at the Harrow Soccer Complex. 'It's pretty full right now. We can't get a whole lot more in there.' Bondy has been collecting items for just one month and two storage lockers – one donated by Storage Box and one by Larry Pollock - are now full. Starting at 9a.m. Saturday morning, volunteers will start sorting through the 'treasures' and placing them on tables, according to Bondy. 'It's not priced. We don't have the hours in the day to price it,' she says. 'Pay what you can and take as much as you can, because I don't want to be left with anything at the end of the day.' Hundreds of household items, knick-knacks, kids toys and books are all up for sale. Bondy also has a tandem bike to sell, a whole 'marine' decorating items (including a lobster trap) and a local event planner donated all the business items; from tealights to vases of all shapes and even chair covers. Proceeds to local charities Volunteers with Girl Guides, Hospice Windsor-Essex, Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation, Essex and Community Historical Research Society (ECHRS) and Harrow Early Immigrant Research Society (HEIRS) will be the 'retailers'. They will accept any donations to support their respective charities. And, for each hour they volunteer, they will earn 'volunteer credits'. 'We take the number of volunteer credits at the end of the day, divided by the amount of money we've made, and that's how we divide it up,' Bondy explains. 'So, if you work five hours of volunteer credits worth $20, you walk away with $100 to your charity.' All Bondy has to do now is hope for good weather Saturday June 1, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Harrow Soccer Complex parking lot at 2225 Roseborough Road.
