Missing French hikers rescued after hours lost in Sandakan rainforest
KOTA KINABALU, April 29 — Two French nationals were found safe yesterday after being reported missing while hiking at the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) in Sandakan. According to a Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson, a distress call was received at 1.24pm yesterday from a caller who reported that he and his wife, both aged 36, had gotten lost during their hike. A seven-man team, together with RDC rangers, was dispatched to the location, approximately seven kilometres from the centre entrance, to locate Santarelli Antoine Pierre and his wife, Girodet Charlene. 'The victims were found in safe condition by RDC rangers at 5.08pm during a boat search. 'They were then brought to Kampung Bambangan by land and subsequently transported to the RDC for further action,' the spokesperson said in a statement. — The Borneo Post

SANDAKAN: Two French tourists were rescued after getting lost while hiking at the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) here on Monday. The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 1.24pm, prompting a search operation involving seven firefighters and RDC rangers. The couple, identified as Santarelli Antoine Pierre and Girodet Charlene, both aged 36, contacted authorities after losing their way about 7km from the RDC entrance. They were located safe and well by RDC rangers at 3.08pm and transported by boat to Kampung Bambangan, which was closer than returning by land. The pair were later taken back to the RDC by Forestry Department rangers for further action. French couple found safe after getting lost hiking
SANDAKAN: A French couple was found safe after getting lost while hiking at the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) in Sandakan today. Santarelli Antolne Pierre, 36, and his wife, Girodet Charlene, 36, were located by RDC rangers who were part of the search and rescue (SAR) operation at 3.08pm. The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Centre (PGO) received an emergency call about the missing hikers at 1.24pm. "The caller, who was one of the victims, reported that they had gotten lost in the forest while hiking," a department spokesman said in a statement. A team from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station, along with RDC rangers, was deployed to the couple's location, approximately seven kilometres from the entrance by land. The spokesman added that RDC rangers, who were also involved in the operation by boat, successfully located the couple. Both were confirmed safe and were taken to Kampung Bambangan via the shorter sea route, as it was just two kilometres away compared to the longer land route. They were later transported back to the RDC by the Forestry Department.
