'I put Poundland's £1 milky toner promising 'glass skin' to the test against a £15 K-beauty buy'

Glass skin is a huge skincare trend, so Mirror's shopping writer Grace tested Poundland's £1 milky toner against Beauty of Joseon's £15 K-Beauty rice milk and saw impressive results Milky textures in skincare have become a trend this year, with hydrating serums, toners, and micellar waters popping up everywhere. Having already tried out a few formulas, including BYOMA's Hydrating Milky Toner, £11.99, Curel's Moisture Facial Milk, £20, and Beauty of Joseon's Glow Replenishing Rice Milk, £15.50, I love the glow they give and how much they moisturise the skin, especially when prepping it for make-up. Even Hailey Bieber swears by a drop of her rhode Glazing Milk mixed into foundation for the ultimate dewy look. However, retailing usually between £10 - £30, they can be a pretty pricey addition to your skincare routine, especially if you are opting for higher-end ones like rhode, Tatcha or Curel. Luckily for us, Poundland launched its Body Stories collection at the end of last year, a range focusing on affordable, effective, and everyday skincare essentials. Jumping on the milky formula trend, a Milky Micellar Water is included in the range and retails for only £1. I decided to test out this affordable buy against Beauty of Joseon's Glow Replenishing Rice Milk, which is one of my current favourite products in my routine. They are, of course, slightly different in the sense that Poundland's is a micellar water, so it aims to remove make-up and impurities while providing a glowing base. However, I wanted to see if Poundland's glow could live up to a pricier purchase. Poundland Body Stories Milky Micellar Water review Pros Fragrance free, gentle and great for sensitive skin, great price Cons Not as glowy as other milky products, doesn't remove make-up as easily as other micellar waters Upon first use, I was really impressed with the thick consistency of the micellar water. I prefer a richer formula with these types of products. I was a little conscious that this would leave too much of a glow, one that borders on shiny, but was pleasantly surprised to see this was not the case. Infused with ceramides and watermelon extract, this formula injects a boost of hydration into your skin immediately after use, which you can immediately see on the skin. Plus, being fragrance-free gets some brownie points from me. My skin can be pretty sensitive to added scents or harsh ingredients, but this soothing, moisturising formula didn't cause me any issues. And I was sceptical considering the price is so low. My main criticism was that the results were just not quite as glowy or as much of a long-lasting glow as I would like. Or compared to other milky products, such as Beauty of Joseon's Rice Milk. However, if you prefer a more subtle radiance, this will work well for you. Considering the £1 price tag on this Poundland buy, I would absolutely purchase it again. It may not have provided super long-lasting hydration and radiance compared to other pricier buys, but it worked as a fantastic base under make-up for that 'lit-from-within' look. It's currently not available to shop online but is available in your local Poundland store. Beauty of Joseon Glow Replenishing Rice Milk review Pros Ideal for oily skin, gives that "glass skin" effect, radiant rather than shiny Cons Very watery consistency I'm already an avid user of milky toners, so it was unsurprising that I enjoyed using Beauty of Joseon's one so much. However, what cemented this one in particular as my new go-to is how well it works for oily skin. Other milky toners can sometimes lean on the side of shiny, rather than radiant, but that wasn't the case with this rice milk. Not to mention, I got literally stopped in the street and complimented on my "glass skin", which hasn't happened to me with the other milky toners I've used. It definitely gives that luminous, "I drink three litres of water a day" glow, and because it's infused with rice extract and rice amino acids, it actually feeds your skin with a whole load of vitamins and antioxidants. My only criticism is that I would prefer the consistency were slightly thicker; it is far more watery than other milky toners I've used in the past, and that leads me to pouring out a bit too much product every time I use it. Overall, however, I think it's the perfect glowy but not greasy base for under makeup or those makeup-free days when you want your skin to do all the talking.

Hailey Bieber suffering skin problems due to 'stress'

Hailey Bieber has been suffering from a "flare up" of perioral dermatitis. The Rhode founder has revealed she often gets a bout of the skin rash when she's tired or stressed or has used the wrong products on her skin and she's now shared the "minimal" steps she uses to calm it down. In a post on Instagram, she shared a picture of the rash around her mouth and wrote: "Always flares up when I'm traveling a lot, sleep deprived, hormones, the wrong SPF, new products, stress." Hailey went on to explain how she calms her skin down again using prescription medication and products from her Rhode beauty range. She added: "What I use when I have a flare: so minimal. Rinse my face with water, prescription Azelaic, Hypochlorous acid, Clindamycin, Glazing Milk." Hailey recently sold her Rhode brand to e.l.f. Beauty in a deal estimated to be worth up to $1 billion, but she'll stay on as chief creative officer and head of innovation as well as acting as a consultant to e.l.f. Beauty. The influencer recently insisted the arrangement will help her take the products to a whole new level and expand across the world. She told Glamour magazine: "When you're launching a brand, you're just so focused on what's right in front of you at the time. "And of course, you always have really big dreams and really big goals for it. This is definitely one of those things being realised. I could have never anticipated that it would happen at this exact time ... "I'm super excited ... I'll be the chief creative officer and head of innovation at Rhode and advisor to Elf Beauty. "I feel like at this very moment in time, my vision has not been more clear to me. I want to expand globally, and I have so many more dreams and goals that I want to be realised. And I really believe that Elf is going to help us get there." When asked if there will ever be a "crossover collection" between Rhode and e.l.f. Cosmetics, she replied: "Well, that'll depend on our strategic advisor ... "I'm always open to seeing how we can innovate together. I mean, that is the whole point of all of this. I would say nothing's off the table."

Our Honest Review Of The New Viral Rhode Glazing Mist

Few brands truly know what makes our insatiable beauty community tick. But with its skin-first streamlined approach, trend-setting credentials (read: glazed donut skin), and ability to carve a culture outside of cosmetics, Rhode is leading the pack. There is good reason why E.l.f. Cosmetics recently moved in on model-turned-entrepreneur Hailey Bieber's disruptive brand to close a billion-dollar deal, making it one of the most impressive beauty acquisitions in recent years. And you need only look to Rhode's first launch since the big business announcement as proof of its industry prowess. Arriving just in time for summer comes Rhode's new Glazing Mist, £30. As if Bieber herself heard our hot and bothered heatwave-induced groans, the brand welcomes its newest expansion to the glazed skincare portfolio, a refreshing ultra-fine spritz that can be used for an instant pick-me-up. A handbag staple perfect for sweaty commutes and office AC provoked dryness, the mist joins the ranks of the brand's glazed-givers- the Glazing Milk, £32, and hydrating Peptide Glazing Fluid, £32. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, using Rhode's new Glazing Mist Intent on standing out in a busy beauty market that is already brimming with brilliant facial mists, Rhode's new Glazing Mist has quickly set itself a part. Touted as 'the drop of the summer', by TikToker @roshellefloress, Rhode has created buzz around the product with an accompanying mirror magnet, which resembles the viral Rhode Lip Case, £38 and taps into the brand's always shareable product aesthetic. And, of course, there's been the recruitment of Babygirl actor Harris Dickinson as the first male face of Rhode. And then there's the formula itself. While hydrating and invigorating, it imparts a glass-like veil that settles comfortably on the skin for a radiant, dewy, and yes, definitely glazed finish. Clinically proven to nourish, much like all of Rhode's offerings, it packs a cocktail of hardworking ingredients that help to provide all-day hydration while bringing balance and clarity to the skin over time. Formulated with expert hydrator ectoin (an amino acid derivative known to thrive in even the harshest of environmental conditions), a barrier building ceramide trio, sensitive skin friendly beta-glucan, antioxidant-rich magnolia extract, as well as soothing panethenol, the mist adheres to Rhode's skin-loving approach. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, using Rhode's new Glazing Mist Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'Admittedly, the soaring temperatures of the UK's recent (an ongoing) heatwave have left me frazzled. And, when I'm not holding a cup of something iced, I've been reaching for a few generous spritzes of this mist to restore some much needed balance to my mind, mood and skin. With a very acne-prone, temperamental skin type, I tend to err on the side of caution when met with a new product but I've had no issues adjusting to this – no thanks to Rhode's sensitive skin-respecting ethos. In fact, the brand website explicitly mentions that the mist is suited to all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin. So rest assured, if your skin is anything like mine. Speaking of, while most of us with acne lean towards matte formulas in a bid to neutralise skin texture, this mist somehow manages to keep my skin looking healthy and radiant without amplifying my acne bumps. My most noteworthy mention though, has to be the extremely fine and even layer of mist the spray diffuses across the skin, which makes the whole experience of using it just that much more satisfying.' 1. Harris Dickinson's Steamy Rhode Campaign Is So Babygirl

Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. Our favorite father figure is back. Babygirl actor and future Mr. Darcy Harris Dickinson is officially the first man to be a Rhode ambassador. Dickinson is the face of the brand's new Glazing Mist, which launched today. In the black-and-white photos, Dickinson is covered in beads of what looks like sweat, but is actually the beauty mist. It's only fitting that the first man to be paired with a Rhode product is famous for a scene involving milk. After all, Rhode's last skin care campaign, for the Glazing Milk, featured founder Hailey Bieber pouring the product on her like she's starring in a 'Got Milk?' commercial. Partnering with Dickinson is another brilliant marketing move from Bieber, who has collaborated with celebrities like Claudia Schiffer in the past. Rhode's Glazing Mist is an on-the go hack for instantly dewy skin, so you can channel Dickinson's steamy campaign at any time. The new mist is a super-fine spray that's packed with antioxidants and moisturizing ingredients. It has ectoin, a hero ingredient that draws water into your skin to hydrate; ceramides, which help repair the skin barrier; and magnolia extract, which works to clarify and soothe. The mist joins other cult-favorite products in the Rhode skin-care lineup, like the Glazing Milk and the Barrier Restore Cream. Rhode recently made headlines after being acquired by e.l.f. Beauty for $1 billion. Bieber is staying on as Rhode's chief creative officer and head of innovation—so don't worry, many more creative campaigns like this one are in the forecast. Rhode's Glazing Mist will be available to purchase on June 24 at 12 P.M. EST. In the meantime, don't mind us printing out these photos of Dickinson to hang on our walls.
