Strictly star wonders 'if supporting Amanda Abbington went against me' in candid remark

Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Toyah Willcox has reflected upon her time on the popular BBC show, as she wonders if her support for Amanda Abbington 'went against me' Post-punk star Toyah Willcox has reflected on her time competing in Strictly Come Dancing in 2024, as she revealed how she has contemplated whether her support for 2023 contestant Amanda Abbington might have "gone against her". ‌ Over the years Strictly Come Dancing has raked in millions of viewers, as fans watch celebrities honing their dancing skills while competing to impress the panel of judges, in a bid to make it all the way to the final and win the Glitterball trophy. ‌ But, in recent years, the show became shrouded in controversy after Amanda Abbington made claims about the conduct of her dance partner, Giovanni Pernice, on the BBC show. ‌ After leaving the show for "personal reasons" in the fifth week of the competition, in an interview with Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Channel 4 last year, she gave an insight into her allegations against Pernice: "It's bullying and it's aggressive behaviour. "There were other things that happened that were very upsetting, that you manage in the room at the time, because you're a woman, and you have to manage those things. Because otherwise, what do you do?" ‌ But, in a recent interview on the Spooning With Mark Wogan podcast, fellow Strictly star Toyah, who was voted out of the series early on after finding herself in the first two dance-offs, opened up about being so outspoken in her support for Amanda, as the BBC investigated the actress' complaint. She told Mark: "When I did Strictly, I was very vocal about my support for Amanda and that she needed to be seen. ‌ "And I don't know if that went against me when I was on the show. But you can't whitewash and put things like that behind you." Explaining her reasons for coming out in support of the former Strictly contestant, she added: "And they need to be addressed and the world keeps on moving. So I'm really part of the world keeps on moving movement. But I just make sure what I see is not history repeating itself.' ‌ After an investigation into the incident was carried out, allegations of verbal bullying and harassment were upheld, while Amanda's claims of physical aggression were not. In a statement afterwards, the BBC issued an apology to Amanda, saying: "We have assessed the complaints and we have upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made. "We want to apologise to Amanda Abbington and to thank her for coming forward and taking part. We know this would not have been an easy thing to do." Giovanni left Strictly in the wake of Amanda's complaint, but shared his relief that the more serious accusations were dismissed. Meanwhile Amanda saw the BBC's response as a "vindication" of her complaint

Stacey Dooley announces huge milestone with partner Kevin Clifton after seven years

Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton - who won Strictly Come Dancing in 2018 - are set to reunite on stage for the first time since they were paired up in the ballroom Kevin Clifton has delighted fans with news of a significant 'first' with Stacey Dooley, seven years on from their triumphant Strictly Come Dancing victory. The loved-up pair have enjoyed a blissful life together since they partnered up and clinched the win on the popular BBC One dance show in 2018. Documentary presenter Stacey, 38, and professional dancer Kevin, 42, found love on the dance floor and after securing the Glitterball trophy, they made their relationship public. Their romance has since blossomed, leading to the birth of their daughter, Minnie. Now, for the first time since their Strictly triumph, they are preparing to collaborate professionally once again. Stacey and Kevin revealed in March that they'll be sharing the stage in the critically acclaimed, smash hit supernatural thriller 2:22 - A Ghost Story. The play is set to embark on another extensive tour across the UK, kicking off at Manchester Opera House on 4 August 2025, and running until November 2025. A second leg of the tour is scheduled from 8 January to 20 June 2026, with casting details yet to be announced. BBC favourite Stacey will reprise her role as Jenny, which she played during a limited run at the Gielgud Theatre in 2024. She'll perform alongside her partner Kevin, who will portray Jenny's husband, Sam. With just weeks remaining until the tour commences in Manchester, Kevin and Stacey have been spotted heading into rehearsals. Taking to Instagram with a snapshot of the duo, ex-Strictly star Kevin Clifton shared: "Day 1 back working with this little fella again. Last time was 7 years ago @sjdooley @222aghoststory." Their fans couldn't hold back their thrill, as one exclaimed: "Can't wait to watch you both in it, coming to Manchester next month." Likewise, another enthused: "Can't wait to see you both in it." Another fan shared their anticipation, saying: "Coming to see you in Bristol and am more than excited!" while another echoed similar sentiments: "Looking forward to seeing you in August in Manchester." This follows Kevin discussing the dynamic of working closely with his partner in real life. Although Stacey, at 38, is adept at shaking off her stage personas like Jenny once she's off-duty, Kevin immerses himself fully into his roles and humorously speculates that bringing his character Sam home might spell trouble for their romance. During his conversation on the latest All That Chat podcast episode, Kevin revealed: "We're not a very argumentative couple - touch wood - we don't argue a lot." He further remarked: "I'm sure it'll be fine. But also, Stace and me are very different in that Stace can very much go do her job, do it great, and then leave it at the door and come home." Kevin continued, underlining his more intense approach: "Whereas I'm a bit obsessive and I have to live and breathe the character. I'll probably bring the character home, which might get interesting. It could be the ending of us." Kevin voiced hesitations about performing alongside Stacey in a theatrical setting. He said: "When it's your partner in front of you who knows everything about you and all your insecurities and then you start playing this character in front of them ... it's going to be weird. I'm going to have to get over doing it in front of Stace, and she's going to have to get over doing it in front of me."

Neighbours legend 'to join Strictly Come Dancing' after soap wraps filming

The countdown for Strictly Come Dancing has officially begun with fans speculating on who will be competing for the Glitterball trophy this year - this year will be the 23rd series of the BBC One dancing competition Popular soap star Stefan Dennis has reportedly signed for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing. The actor, 66, is best known for his role in Neighbours playing six-times married Ramsay Street lothario Paul Robinson since the first episode aired in 1985. But now Neighbours has officially wrapped with the cast filming their last day at Nunawading studios. ‌ This chapter of the iconic Australian soap opera will be brought to a close in December 2025, celebrating over 40 years of entertainment, heart, and history. Amazon had previously saved the soap in 2022 with it returning the following year, but sadly the deal has now come to an end. ‌ The final episode of Neighbours was filmed at Nunawading Studios in Australia on Friday, and will air on Amazon Prime in December, which means Stefan is now free to take to the dancefloor this autumn. ‌ A source told The Sun: ' Stefan is a huge character on the soap and is sure to be a hit with Strictly fans. BBC bosses are confident Stefan will bring in the ratings. He has made no secret of the fact that he would love to star on Strictly and will put his all into the training.' Paul Robinson's biggest storyline was in 2005 for the 20th anniversary when he was shoved from a mezzanine — leading to the 'Who Pushed P.R?' mystery. Cast members have been sharing their memories of the soap which recently turned 40, with Paul Robinson actor Stefan Dennis saying: "I never thought a single show would give me the greatest adventures of my career, spanning 40 years. Without Neighbours I would not have meet the people, been to the places and lived the experiences of a lifetime. Thank you all." ‌ Susan Kennedy actress Jackie Woodburne continued: "It's impossible to measure the gratitude I feel for the gift of 30 years on Neighbours. "To do so I would have to calculate the number of extraordinary cast and crew I have been privileged to work with, count the number of laughs I have shared with them, measure the pride I feel for the diverse, dramatic (and sometimes outrageous!) storytelling we have all been a part of. "We are the best version of 'family'. It has been a wild ride into a happy life. Wouldn't change it for quids!" Whatever Stefan goes on to do next in his TV career we're sure his wife Gail Easdale, 52, and their three children will be bursting with pride. The Mirror has contacted the BBC and Stefan's representative for comment and at the time of publication had not responded.
