GloRilla is arrested for felony drug possession in Georgia... a year after her DUI

Rapper Glorilla was arrested in Georgia earlier this week for drug possession. The 25-year-old Memphis-bred music artist was taken into custody in Forsyth County and booked on two counts: possession of a scheduled controlled substance and possession of marijuana over one ounce. According to a TMZ report, the TGIF hitmaker — who sparked dating rumors with an NFL star in June — was released on the same day after posting $22,000 bond. Both counts are felony offenses under Georgia law. The outlet noted that other details around the arrest are unknown at this time. It comes a little over a year after the star, real name Gloria Woods, was arrested in Georgia's Gwinnett County on DUI charges. At the time, the entertainer had been arrested in Suwanee, Georgia for suspicion of driving under the influence and consuming/possessing an open alcoholic beverage container. She was pulled over by authorities at 4:00 a.m. ET after they saw a vehicle make a U-turn at a red traffic light, according to police. (She also faced a separate traffic charge, police said.) The Yeah Glo! performer told police that she had drinks earlier in the night, police said in their report, noting that her vehicle smelled like alcohol and marijuana. GloRilla performed poorly on a field sobriety test officers conducted with her, authorities said. Police said that GloRilla, who's been linked to NBA star Damian Lillard, was unable to follow a target with her eyes, walk steadily, and balance on one leg. The F.N.F. (Let's Go) rapper declined to take a breathalyzer test, police said, at which point she was taken into custody. GloRilla had an associate retrieve her vehicle from the scene, authorities said. Earlier this year she hit the road in March and April for her Glorious Tour, which had stops stretching from the east to west coasts. Last month football star Xavier Legette appeared in a racy music video for her single Typa, sparking dating rumors. GloRilla made headlines in 2023 after three people died in a stampede at her March 5, 2023 concert in Rochester, New York at the Rochester Main Street Armory. 'I am devastated & heartbroken over the tragic deaths that happened after Sunday's show,' she wrote online in the wake of the tragedy. 'My fans mean the world to me. 'Praying for their families & for a speedy recovery of everyone affected,' she added.

GloRilla Big Boogie & More: Meet the Top 10 Rappers Putting Memphis on the Map

Source: Prince Williams / Getty Memphis has always marched to the beat of its own 808. Gritty, raw, and unapologetically Southern, the city's rap scene has quietly — and now loudly — shifted the culture. What started as underground tapes and basement studio sessions has turned into Billboard hits, viral moments, and Grammy wins. But beyond the accolades, what truly sets Memphis rappers apart is their authenticity. They rap like they've lived every word. Pain, loyalty, betrayal, survival — these themes aren't just lyrics; they're lived experiences. The city produces artists who don't chase trends; they build movements. Their sound is heavy on bass, sharp with cadence, and always rooted in storytelling. Whether it's a street anthem or a club banger, there's a depth that hits harder because it comes from a real place. One of the most powerful forces in the city's rap rise is emotion. These rappers aren't afraid to show vulnerability, whether through tales of losing friends, navigating fame, or striving to break generational curses. The balance of toughness and tenderness, trap beats and trauma unpacked, makes Memphis music hit different. And it's not just the guys. The women coming out of Memphis are rewriting the rules too — bold, brash, and brilliantly lyrical. Together, this new wave of talent is defining the sound of the South for a new generation. ‘Gary is my biggest community': Gary native designs outfit for Cowboy Carter tour

When she reflects on her career, Sankara McCain recognizes that she wouldn't have the tools to succeed without support in Gary. 'I always knew I wanted to work in the entertainment industry, but I wasn't sure how or when,' said McCain, a wardrobe stylist, image consultant and costume designer. 'But, Gary definitely gave me the tools and discipline to shape and navigate that experience for sure.' Now, more than 15 years after she left Gary to attend Howard University in Washington, D.C., McCain is creating clothes for celebrities, most recently an all-gold ensemble for Blue Ivy Carter on Beyonce's Cowboy Carter tour. McCain is the niece of former Deputy Mayor Trent McCain, who served during former Mayor Jerome Prince's administration. Sankara McCain's father, Todd McCain, said he always knew she would do great things. Watching Sankara McCain succeed makes Todd McCain proud, he said. 'I think a person should be judged by their children because that's truly our creation,' Todd McCain said. 'What I'm truly proud of is that she accomplishes her goals with grace and humility. I think being humble is one of the greatest attributes that a human being can have.' Since Sankara McCain was a child, her father said she's been interested in art and had an eye for detail. She took dance classes as a child, and Sankara McCain said she was always interested in what they would wear at performances. Because she was drawn to art, working in fashion as an adult made sense. Sankara McCain has designed and styled for music videos, commercials, televised performances and tours. Celebrities including Glorilla, Ice Cube and Shacarri Richardson have worn her clothes. 'I think that every opportunity I have is a huge opportunity,' Sankara McCain said, 'and I still put the same amount of energy into it.' For Blue Ivy, Sankara McCain designed a gold leather, metallic outfit with a cowboy belt and hat. She, with help from another designer, completed the outfit over the weekend, which she said was a challenge. 'We ran out of leather on Saturday night,' Sankara McCain said. 'No leather stores are even open on the weekend, so it was just trial and error. But, we made it through, we got it done, and everyone was happy.' Todd McCain said he learned Sankara McCain was designing for the Cowboy Carter tour after she texted him. 'I asked, 'Well, what was the connection? Was it your agent that made the connection for Blue Ivy and Beyonce and the (Cowboy Carter) tour?'' Todd McCain said. 'And she said, 'No, my agent is God.'' Todd McCain believes that Sankara McCain never forgot that her roots are in Gary, which he thinks will also inspire other children in the city. Sankara McCain has heard from children in Gary now who have said they're motivated or inspired by her work, and she's thankful to be a role model for younger generations. Sankara McCain believes that growing up in Gary helped instill a positive work ethic in her. When she was a teenager, she and her friends would go to Chicago on a train to get extra training in dance or other activities they did. '(Gary) created a discipline for us to learn how to maneuver and motivate the next generation,' Sankara McCain said. 'I love my city, and I hope I'm making them proud.'
