Odisha to set up 835 model primary schools

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will develop 835 model primary schools under the first phase of its flagship Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School scheme. These high-quality primary schools developed under the flagship programme will function as feeder schools for the high schools across the State. The government targets to spend Rs 7 crore per school. Schools, which have more than 100 students, above 2 acres of land and provide education from nursery to Class 8, will be developed as Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School. During a review meeting held here on the implementation of the scheme, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasised developing one model school in each gram panchayat headquarters, keeping in view its geographical location. He also stressed on providing national-level quality education in the socio-economic context and ensure transport facilities for the students. Majhi instructed the authorities concerned during the meeting to provide free transportation facilities to students in remote and inaccessible areas to facilitate their commute to school. He also directed the authorities to select schools with sufficient land and develop those primary schools in a way that allows for future upgradation to high schools. The Chief Minister directed departmental secretaries and officials to ensure the improvement in results through the adoption of technology and follow best practices in teacher recruitment process. Majhi also laid emphasis on strengthening infrastructure, adopting modern teaching methods, encouraging the involvement of parents, alumni and local stakeholders. He also stressed on strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy to achieve basic educational competencies by Class 3, in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). In the meeting, discussions were held on government's aim to promote diverse forms of education in these schools, including STEM-based learning (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), with a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics education, as well as vocational skills and experiential learning. The initiative seeks to support the holistic development of students by encouraging creativity, critical thinking and life skills.

1 2 Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi announced construction of 835 schools across Odisha after reviewing the ambitious Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School programme at Lok Seva Bhavan here on Monday. Each school, proposed to be set up at the headquarters of every gram panchayat, will serve as a feeder to the nearby higher secondary schools and will be built at an estimated cost of up to Rs 7 crore. The initiative aimed to strengthen foundational education and align with the objectives of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. "These schools will provide national-level quality education tailored to the socio-economic and geographical needs of local communities. Special emphasis will be laid on ensuring ease of access for children from remote and tribal areas through free transportation," said Majhi during the review meeting. The schools to be selected under this programme must have more than 100 students, over two acres of available land, and classes ranging from pre-primary to Class VIII. Creativity, critical thinking, and experiential learning will be key components, an official statement said. Majhi also directed officials to adopt a more efficient teacher recruitment process and encouraged community involvement through active participation of parents, alumni, and local stakeholders. "Achieving foundational literacy and numeracy by Class III will be a top priority," he said, adding that efforts will be made to ensure every child receives quality education irrespective of location or background. The review meeting was attended by school and mass education minister Nityananda Gond, chief secretary Manoj Ahuja, development commissioner Anu Garg, principal secretary, finance, Sanjeev Mishra, chief minister's principal secretary Shashwat Mishra, school and mass education secretary Shalini Pandit, rural development secretary Yamini Sarangi and OSEPA director Ananya Das, among others.

SAMBALPUR: The previous government only made promises whereas the double engine government is delivering with accountability, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday. He was addressing a programme on 'Empowerment of Kendu Leaf Workers,' organised jointly by the Forest and Labour departments at Sambalpur University auditorium. Highlighting the vital contribution of kendu leaf workers to the rural economy, Pradhan said the government is committed to addressing their long-standing issues and empowering them through welfare initiatives. 'All the promises made to kendu leaf workers will be fulfilled. Today's programme marks a welcome step in this direction,' he said, adding that the previous government often failed to deliver on its commitments, such as the Rs 100 bonus on paddy announced at Sohela. 'Our government works on the principles of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas,' Pradhan said. The union minister said that around 7 lakh metric tonne of kharif paddy worth nearly Rs 8,000 crore was procured in the state, and the direct benefit transfer (DBT) mechanism ensured financial support reached farmers directly. H The minister announced that over the next five years, 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs will be set up in government schools to foster scientific mindset among children, and every gram panchayat in Odisha will have a Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School. 1 2 Berhampur: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday said Shishu Batikas will be opened this year in every primary school. The joyful teaching through their mother tongue under NEP-2020 will enable students to understand their lessons, the chief minister said while addressing the centenary celebration of the Upper Primary School at Bhimpur in Ganjam district's Patrapur block. He said NEP, which was formulated to impart quality education and to strengthen primary education , was not implemented in the state by the previous govt due to political motives. "The NEP will bring a revolution in the education system in the country," the CM said. "After we came to power, we have implemented it in the state. It will help students," Majhi added. Apart from imparting quality education, the aim of the education policy is to build the students as a good citizen of the country and their role towards the nation, he said. The CM criticised the previous govt's 5T school initiative and said internet facility was available in only 16% of schools. He said his govt has launched Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School scheme, under which in every panchayat, there will be a primary school with all modern and infrastructure facilities. "Experienced and trained teachers will be appointed in these schools," Majhi said. In order to arrest the dropout rate among tribal students, the CM said his govt has also launched the Sahid Madho Singh Hatakharach Scheme. The govt has allocated over Rs 3100 crore for primary schools in the current budget. "It will help to improve school education in the state," the CM said. Earlier, the chief minister visited the Thakurani Yatra and offered prayers before the deities and witnessed the famous tiger dance.

₹1 lakh cr investment to be grounded in Ganjam dist: CM

Berhampur , Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday said investment valued at ₹1 lakh crore will be brought to Ganjam district. More than one lakh people would get employment in the industrial units to be set up with that investment, Majhi told reporters after visiting the Budhi Thakurani temple here. The Budhi Thakurani Yatra, a 25-day festival, will be concluded on Monday. The CM offered puja at the temple and witnessed the "tiger dance" performed by local artists. The New Education Police-2020, which was formulated to impart quality education, was not implemented in the state by the previous government due to political reasons, he alleged. 'After we came to power, we implemented it in the state, which will help students of the state a lot,' he said while addressing the centenary celebration of the Upper Primary School at Bhimpur in Ganjam district's Patrapur block earlier in the day. The NEP will bring a revolution in the education system in the country, Majhi said. He also said the Shishu Vatika, a pre-primary teaching unit, will be opened this year in every primary school under the New Education Policy -2020. He said his government has launched a scheme, Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School, under which a primary school will be set up in each panchayat with all modern and infrastructural facilities. Experienced trained teachers would be appointed in these schools, he added. The government is also making efforts to check the dropout of tribal students from schools, the chief minister said. The government has allocated over ₹3100 crore in the current budget to help improve school education in the state, Majhi said. He said he will conduct a grievance hearing session in Berhampur soon. 'The government, the CM along with 10 ministers, will come to Berhampur to hear the grievances of the people,' he stated. Later, he visited Gopalpur in the district to attend the 12th-day ritual following the death of the mother of minister Gokulananda Mallik.
