Sony Santa Monica might not be ditching God of War for its next game according to industry insider

Sony Santa Monica's next game is reportedly the studio's "next big thing" Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier responded to speculation, claiming that the studio's new game isn't a new IP, "but might feel like one" Schreier also claimed that the sci-fi game rumors are not true The next game from God of War developer Sony Santa Monica reportedly won't be a new IP, "but might feel like one". That's according to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier (via Eurogamer), who responded to speculation on ResetEra after initially writing about the studio's next project. "Cory Barlog's game is Sony Santa Monica's next big thing," Schreier said. "Last time I spoke to anyone about it (a month or two ago) it was going well." After sharing this tidbit, fans went on to theorize that the game could be a new IP, which Schreier has now denied. "I'll put it this way: it's not a new IP but it might feel like one," Schreier explained. "Maybe that's why people are confused. Please don't ask me more questions about this - if I wind up reporting more information at any point in the future it'll be in an article, not on a forum." There's also been speculation over the years that Cory Barlog, the director of God of War, will be making a sci-fi game next at Sony Santa Monica, but Schreier claims that this isn't correct "And that the sci-fi stuff (that people have apparently believed for years now?) is nonsense," he said. Rumors of Sony Santa Monica developing a new IP sprang up last year, but there's no official word from the studio on what it's currently working on. A third God of War game is also a possibility, but the studio hasn't confirmed if it plans on continuing the series after launching God of War Ragnarok in 2022. You might also like... Ghost Of Yotei's Gameplay Trailer: This sequel might have outdone its predecessor in one swift blow. Watch
It's tough to cement yourself as a proper franchise in the gaming world because, in all honesty, there are already too many of those. Another formidable task to take on is making an open-world game, and that too is difficult for the same reasons. Competing with legendary franchises like GTA, God of War, and Far Cry might be something game developers would duck from, but the people over at Sucker Punch Productions are definitely not running away from a fight. They have just released the gameplay trailer for their upcoming title Ghost Of Yotei, and it looks like the game might break the records held by the beloved and moving Ghost Of Tsushima. The developers provide an insight into the whole story behind the game while describing all the different features that have been made available for the users. The protagonist of the story is a woman named Atsu, who is returning to her hometown after 16 years in order to take revenge for her family's death. The developers have pulled from Japanese myths and legends, and Atsu is believed to be an onryō. According to Japanese folklore, an onryō is a spirit that is driven by wrath and thirst for revenge. As Atsu moves forward in her journey, her ghost legend will only grow, as will the bounty on her head, inviting more challenging foes as the game proceeds. ALSO READ: 007 First Light announcement trailer: James Bond is a bullet looking for a target in the new game, watch In order to level up her prowess as a fighter, the players will need to find certain clues to hidden areas of the game. They can also stumble upon secret locations titled 'Altars of Reflection', which will inspire Atsu and will give the players the ability to choose a new skill. The developers claim to have made a world that can suit everyone's playing style like a perfect glove. The players will be able to choose whether they want to explore the world, focus on the main story, or complete other side quests. This does beg the question if players will be able to level up Atsu before getting very far in the main storyline or maybe before even starting it. The weapon arsenal available is wide and varied, including katanas, spears, kusarigama, odachi, and dual swords. Their weapons have a personality of their own, as different weapons will be effective in particular situations, and all weapons will have their own skill tree to climb. In her pursuit of the Yotei Six, the group of mercenaries that killed her family, Atsu can act as a bounty hunter, investigator or just a straight-up punisher. The developers say that the entire experience will be slow, and they will not be rushing the players through anything; in fact, they encourage the players to go exploring and take the game forward one discovery at a time. The game will be coming out on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.

PS5 Pro fans can pick up disc drive bundle on Very for a limited time
Very is selling a PS5 Pro bundle that lets gamers upgrade with ease For gamers wanting to grab a PS5 Pro but have been waiting for a great deal - now might be the chance thanks to a limited time deal by Very. The tech experts are selling a great bundle for PS5 Pro for £758 on Very. The good news is that it now includes a disc drive attachment, so gamers can enjoy all the games they bought on physical media. Separately, these would cost around £800, but Very has knocked a healthy £40 off the price for payday. The PS5 Pro is Sony's newest and greatest console that it has released with some big upgrades so games run games like Ratchet and Clank, God of War and more at the best possible FPS and resolution as well as more consistent frame rates for silky smooth gameplay with support for 60Hz and 120Hz displays. That's thanks to the upgraded GPU with 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory, resulting in 45% faster rendering. For shoppers wanting some alternatives, the Nintendo Switch 2 is here right now for shoppers wanting the new console, and Nintendo is selling it right here. Amazon is also selling the Nintendo Switch OLED for £240 if the newest console isn't in your budget. When it first released, I queued to pre-order the console, and in the months since my partner and I have been impressed. One game I tried was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which honestly looked awful when I first played it. It had a blur that made me feel like my glasses weren't strong enough, however, the PS5 Pro has completely changed how this game looks. Instead of a slick blur in the distance, there's now an option that allows you to output an upscaled 4K resolution with 60fps, whereas the standard console allowed only 4K 30 or a lower resolution at 60fps. PS5 Pro eliminates that, and the game looks fantastic. Background textures and imagery look gorgeous, but Final Fantasy isn't the only game that looks great. Horizon Forbidden West got some great upgrades. Compared to the inconsistent FPS drops I got with the original PS5, FPS drops are now non-existent and the image quality 'pops' far more compared to the old console. It feels much closer to games on my high-end PC rather than playing older console – one of my biggest gripes with the original PS5. Should shoppers spend close to £699 on the PS5 Pro? Personally, I believe the majority of people still probably don't need the console, unless gamers need the best possible frame rates and resolution to justify the high price.

Jr NTR carries a book on 'God of War Muruga': Is Trivikram Srinivas' film based on this mythological character?
Jr NTR is gearing up for back-to-back projects at the moment. Amid his Bollywood debut with War 2, the actor has an impending film with Prashanth Neel and a mythological drama with Trivikram Srinivas. Tarak was recently spotted in Mumbai with his family, and it seems his appearance has left his fans with a lot of curiosity. Is Jr NTR's film with Trivikram Srinivas based on the 'God of War' Muruga? Well, Jr. NTR is reportedly playing a mythological character in the Trivikram Srinivas directorial he has lined up ahead. Interestingly, as he was recently spotted at the Mumbai airport, Tarak could be seen carrying a book titled "Muruga: The Lord of War, The God of Wisdom" in his hand. Eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot the book's name and were quite sure that it was a part of the superstar's preparation for his film with Trivikram. Fans react as Jr NTR reads a book on the God of War Within no time, social media was filled with zoomed-in glimpses of the actor's recent appearance carrying the particular book in his hand. People were sure that Tarak was already putting his best efforts into the project. Moreover, others hilariously remarked that the book in his hand was a subtle confirmation that he would finally do the project. Why did Allu Arjun exit the project with Trivikram Srinivas? As per a previous report by 123 Telugu, Allu Arjun had indeed walked out of his long-standing project with Trivikram Srinivas. It is worth noting that this project was touted as one of the most ambitious movies for both the actor and the director, especially since the former would be playing a mythological character for the first time. While the makers have not confirmed this, it is believed that the actor's exit has been fueled by some unresolved creative differences with the director and scheduling conflicts with Allu Arjun's existing movie lineup. Despite all the buzz, neither Trivikram nor Allu Arjun has commented on the matter as of yet.

PlayStation's epic new sale has some of my favorite PS5 games from $5 — here's 11 deals I'm adding to my cart
PlayStation Store just launched its annual Mid-Year sale, and this year's crop of discounts across PS5 and PS4 games is pretty excellent. While there's a disappointing lack of deals on PlayStation Studio titles like God of War and Spider-Man, there are big savings on plenty of must-play PS5 games right now. Some of my personal favorite deals include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition for $9, which is a frankly ridiculous price for a high-quality RPG that will easily last you more than 100 hours. There's also the excellent Dragon's Dogma 2 for $29 and the seriously tough, but very satisfying, Black Myth: Wukong for $47, which is its lowest price to date. Bargain chasers won't want to miss Metro Exodus for just $5. I'm rounding up the PS5 game deals that have caught my eye in this new PlayStation Store sale down below. But for those gamers who prefer a physical disc over a digital download, I've also scoured retailers like Amazon and Best Buy for their best PS5 deals as well. After more than a decade of waiting, EA has returned to the world of NCAA football in the appropriately titled College Football 25. And this simulation of college football was worth the weight. Offering a slightly more arcade-style pace than its Madden sibling, and letting you play as the biggest schools in the country, it lived up to all those years of anticipation. Return to a galaxy far, far away in the biggest Lego Star Wars game to date. Experience the entirety of The Skywalker Saga in plastic-brick form and collect more than 300 playable characters as you smash everything in sight. From The Phantom Menace through The Rise of Skywalker, this is the ultimate retelling of the greatest sci-fi sagas ever told. Step back into the space boots of Isaac Clarke in this remake of the legendary sci-fi survival horror, Dead Space. The USG Ishimura has been overrun with nightmarish enemies, and it's your job to discover the source of the outbreak while trying to keep your sanity in check. You'll need to conserve your resources by strategically dismembering enemies. Dead Island 2 offers players a sun-soaked playground crawling with the undead. Using just about any weapon you can get your hands on, it's your job to slay your throughway Hell-A from the mansions of Beverly Hills to the boardwalk of Venice Beach. Fully playable in co-op, Dead Island 2 is a rip-roaring open-world game full of zombies to slaughter, survivors to assist and loot to collect. Atlus's Persona series has a strong pedigree, and this full-fledged remake brings the Persona 3 story to the current console generation so franchise veterans and newcomers can experience it. Part social sim and part JRPG, Persona 3 Reload updates the visuals and incorporates many quality-of-life improvements and new elements, bringing the original tale up to date and making this another must-play RPG. Enjoy the acclaimed Metal Gear Solid franchise from the very start in this first installment in the Master Collection series. This package offers strong value, containing Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, along with the original two Metal Gear games and a host of supplemental content, including digital art collections and novels. It is the perfect package for veteran MGS fans or newcomers to the storied franchise. The sequel to one of the most acclaimed PlayStation games of all time, God of War Ragnarök sees father and son duo Kratos and Atreus embark on another epic journey as they travel across all Nine Realms of Norse mythology. Enjoy visceral combat against a multitude of foes, as well as rewarding exploration and a highly cinematic story that culminates in a stunning finale that you won't soon forget. The Last of Us Part 1 is a stunning remake of the PS3 original, completely rebuilt from the ground up to take full advantage of the PS5 console. It includes the full original game as well as its DLC chapter, Left Behind. This is the ideal pick for fans of the HBO show ahead of season 2 or returning players looking to experience Joel and Ellie's first gripping cross-country adventure all over again. Star Wars Outlaws represents a new frontier for a Galaxy far, far away as it's the first-ever open-world game set in the iconic sci-fi universe. You play a Han Solo-type named Kay Vess, as you explore various planets and navigate criminal syndicates and the sinister Galactic Empire. One of 2023's most pleasant surprises, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora doesn't switch up the Ubisoft open-world formula seen in games like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. But the alien setting of Pandora makes everything feel brand new, and it's one of the most visually impressive games on PS5. Even if you're not enamored with the Avatar movies, you might be surprised by this one. Sonic X Shadow Generations combines a remaster of 2011's Sonic Generations, a love letter to the Blue Blur that remains a fan-favorite to this day, with a new Shadow-focused campaign. It's a strong package, and it was perfectly timed to coincide with the latest Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie. Metaphor ReFantazio, an original fantasy adventure that combines social sim elements with stylish turn-based combat, comes from the creator of the acclaimed Persona series. Yes, it's basically Persona in a fantasy setting, but that's a recipe for success, and Metaphor easily gets its hooks into you. It's also meaty, with even a rushed playthrough taking several dozen hours. Following this year's dramatic Masters tournament, now is the time to step out onto the links and prove yourself a golfing whiz, at least in the virtual world. PGA Tour 2K25 is the latest entry in the annual sports sim series, and boasts the level of authenticity you'd expect from a 2K game. Civilization VII makes some of the biggest changes yet to the established formula, and while not all of these additions are necessarily for the best, it remains one of the deepest strategy games on the market. This is a game you can play for literally thousands of hours. The best way of playing the GOTY-nominated expansion is to pick up this bundle, which includes both the downloadable content pack 'Shadow of the Erdtree' and the base game of Elden Ring. Don't be fooled, in terms of content, this is essentially two games in one. Be prepared for difficult boss fights and in-depth exploration of a beautifully realized world.
