Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi offers prayers at Kedarnath Dham
Kedarnath (Uttarakhand) [India], June 8 (ANI): Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday visited Kedarnath Dham and offered prayers at the sacred temple, seeking the blessings of Mahadev, revered as the God of Gods. His visit adds to a series of recent high-profile pilgrimages to the holy shrine. On Friday, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi also visited Kedarnath Temple with his family. Sharing his experience on the social media platform X, he wrote, 'Today, I left from Sahastradhara helipad, Dehradun with my family to visit Kedarnath Dham, one of the four Dhams, to have darshan of Mahadev, the God of Gods.' Earlier, on June 2, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, accompanied by her family, offered prayers at Kedarnath Dham as well. Speaking to ANI, CM Gupta expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to visit the holy site and prayed for strength to continue working for the progress of the national capital. 'After offering prayers at Kedarnath Dham, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta says, 'I feel fortunate to get the opportunity to offer prayers at Kedarnath Dham along with my family. I wish Baba gives us enough strength to achieve the target of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Delhi. I hope Baba Kedar gives me the strength to work for the development of Delhi,' the Delhi Chief Minister said. For the year 2025, the doors of Kedarnath Dham were opened to devotees on May 2. As of June 1, over 7 lakh pilgrims have visited the temple, with an average of 24,000 devotees reaching Kedarpuri daily for Baba's darshan. Kedarnath Dham Yatra is considered one of the most challenging religious pilgrimages in India. Pilgrims undertake a strenuous 20-kilometre trek through mountainous terrain to reach the temple, which is home to the 11th Jyotirlinga, situated in the lap of the Himalayas. Horses and mules play a crucial role in this pilgrimage, especially for elderly and differently-abled devotees. These animals are also essential for transporting food and supplies along the Yatra route and to Kedarpuri. So far, more than seven lakh devotees have reached Shri Kedarnath Dham. Every pilgrim has to pay 50 rupees for going and 50 rupees for returning to Sonprayag. Till June 1, seven lakh devotees have reached Dham, which means taxi operators have earned about seven crore rupees through the shuttle service. This year, taking a new initiative, 25 vehicles have been reserved for women and the elderly. An average of 10 passengers can travel in each vehicle. Stickers have also been put on these vehicles. In the first phase, only 25 vehicles have been taken for this. If the experiment is successful and the need for more vehicles is felt, then the number of vehicles can be increased. (ANI)

Terry Bradshaw calls Steelers' pursuit of Aaron Rodgers 'a joke'
A contract agreement between Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers almost feels inevitable at this point, which is much to the chagrin of one of the franchise's all-time greats. NFL on FOX analyst Terry Bradshaw criticized his former team's interest in Rodgers during an appearance on 103.7 The Buzz's "Morning Mayhem" in Arkansas, calling it a "joke." "That's a joke. That to me is just a joke," Bradshaw said. "What are you going to do? Bring him in for one year. Are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the Gods out there." Rodgers has been linked to the Steelers ever since free agency opened in March. While the two sides haven't agreed to a deal quite yet, both parties have indicated that they're hopeful a contract agreement will happen at some point. In fact, Rodgers dropped another hint over the weekend that he's likely to end up in Pittsburgh for the 2025 NFL season. As for the Steelers' side, president Art Rooney II told reporters at the league meetings last week that that team is willing to wait "a little while longer" for Rodgers to make his decision. In April, Rooney told Steelers Nation Radio that Rodgers "does want to come here." The Steelers' entanglement with Rodgers is just the latest swing they've made at quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger retired at the end of the 2021 season. They brought in veterans Russell Wilson and Justin Fields prior to the 2024 season in hopes that either would elevate their roster, which had made the postseason the year prior. Wilson helped Pittsburgh make the playoffs again in 2024, but he faltered down the stretch, leading the team to let him to walk in free agency. However, Bradshaw thinks the biggest mistake the Steelers have made at quarterback over the last few years was their development of 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett, who was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. "I liked Kenny Pickett," Bradshaw said. "I liked him at Pitt. I know him, I know what he's like. When they got him to Pittsburgh, they didn't protect him, they didn't get him an offensive line. They wanted to run the football, but they didn't have an offensive line that could protect and they didn't have weapons. He had no wide receivers to speak of." "Then they throw a kid in there for two years, and you've got an offense that doesn't fit and doesn't work, and they can't run because their offensive line's not even good enough for a run-blocking team. Now, they're saying Kenny Pickett is a failure. He wasn't a failure, the Steelers were a failure." FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd seems to agree with Bradshaw about the Steelers' approach to the quarterback position over the last few years. On Wednesday's "The Herd," Cowherd noted that Rodgers is opting to sit out voluntary practices while other star quarterbacks, such as Josh Allen, are still practicing with their respective teams. But he also thinks the Steelers aren't blameless in failing to get Rodgers signed at this point, either. "Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers have something in common: Neither takes the duty of quarterback with great urgency," Cowherd said. "Both the Steelers and Aaron have a 'We'll get to it eventually,' 'I'll sign with a team eventually' or 'We'll figure out the quarterback eventually' [approach]. Think about San Francisco and Kyle Shanahan, they just signed Brock Purdy to a massive deal and yet, this year in the draft, Kyle says, 'I want another quarterback' and they draft a kid out of Indiana. The Green Bay Packers, they draft quarterbacks three years before they let them see the field. "The Pittsburgh Steelers lost their left tackle, their top two quarterbacks, their top receiver and a really good running back in Najee Harris, and their answer is, 'Eh, we think Aaron's our quarterback, but we're not really sure.' The Steelers have become the 66-year-old guy who has never put a penny in his 401K and is trying to convince us that [he's got a plan]." For much of the offseason, Cowherd had questioned Rodgers' fit with the Steelers and wondered if he and head coach Mike Tomlin would mesh. After Bradshaw's take on the situation, though, he's reconsidered that stance. "I had an epiphany. I had been saying Aaron and the Steelers are a bad fit. I'm wrong. It's a great fit," Cowherd said. "In life, what's the rule? You've got to find someone who matches your energy? The Steelers at quarterback: 'We'll get to it.' Aaron on committing: 'Eh, maybe later.' "I am here for the dysfunction. The whole time, I've been like, 'This is a weird fit.' There's a reason the Steelers are near the top of the NFL in longest playoff win droughts. … More than ever, it's much easier to predict who's going to win each division based on who has the best quarterback, does he have a good offensive coach and do they treat the position with importance and urgency. Steelers don't, Aaron doesn't. It's a match made in heaven." Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Andrew Miller: An epic long drive can provide but a glimpse into our great, vast country
'Whose woods these are I think I know . . .' begins one of my favourite poems about a journey. Keeping things in proportion is challenging these days, so I hatched an idea that a road trip might refresh my perspective. The drive from Perth to Broome, with some stops along the coast — 2800 km or so — would do the trick. An opportunity to use the open road as an epic blank page. My son described it perfectly — 'there are some things that just want you to do them.' I talked him into coming with me to share the driving and adventure, but in reality, it was a hostage situation — five days of unavoidable Dad time, often beyond mobile range. He's a man now, and I need him more than ever. There are many ways for fathers to admit this — we come up with plans involving fishing rods, sports, food — whatever works. Mine was a folding map. In contrast to a tiny Google navigation window, a proper map is magnificent. After spreading it out across the table, a world of possibilities opens up. Your attention-seeking, spying phone can never inspire wanderlust the way a real map does. Unlike some brazen lands, the Australian continent does not readily reveal its naked form. It is shy about its wide burn scars and its ancient rocky ribs sticking right through its hot, sandy skin. The sun, the distance, the spiky fire-loving plants, the hidden water and the lethal wildlife are all cues for us to move along. These woods only reveal themselves fully to the people who lived here respectfully for tens of thousands of years. We late arrivals, can only catch impressions from our speeding vehicles and brief stops. With their lack of proper scale and saturation, our digital photographs also struggle to do the landscape justice, but they can summon analogue memories of time shared with someone very important to us. We planned four days on the road, with a rest day in the middle. No night driving — it's a more capricious country after dark. When the spirits come out, anything can happen. After two days, we got into the Zen rhythm of the white line, and the rushing trees slowed down. When speed limits dropped in rare townships, it felt like we could have opened the door to jog alongside. We saw the ink-black sky at night from Karajini and out near Eighty Mile Beach. The brilliant scarf of the Milky Way was thrown over us, while the Gods shone their many sparkling torches through a colander dropped on top. Further north, even the 2.5 million-year-old light finally arriving here from the Andromeda galaxy seemed playful. The Andromeda paradox is a theory that, from each individual's perspective, the events occurring in an incredibly distant galaxy at any given moment are quite different, because relative motion significantly affects time at a distance. It supports the scientists' view that none of us ever lives in the exact same 'now,' and that the universe is four-dimensional. Luckily, we don't need to understand astrophysics to know that our different perspectives can cause misunderstanding on every scale. We need to keep the people we love close, during our short trip through this chaotic, incoherent universe. It is too easy to drift apart, one day at a time. Like life itself, all journeys come to an end. We each have a destination, as Robert Frost said: 'But I have promises to keep . . . And miles to go before I sleep.' My son and I travelled together in the same direction, regarding this incomprehensible country from the same perspective. Australia was great, but it was not what I came for. I got to hear his thoughts on playlists and life; we laughed and ate together at sunset on a roadhouse veranda, as giant prehistoric road-trains rumbled in and peacocks called up the moon. Those miles are done, and now I will sleep, smiling.
