Biden says he could 'beat the hell out of' authors of new book arguing his cognitive decline

Former President Joe Biden joked Friday he could take on those who questioned his mental faculties following his first public remarks since announcing he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Biden's statement comes after several books have been released detailing his mental deterioration while in office, including the book, "Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again," that was released May 20. "You can see that I'm mentally incompetent, I can't walk," Biden quipped with reporters Friday after speaking at a Memorial Day event. "And I could beat the hell out of both of them." Biden appeared to be referencing the book's authors, Jake Tapper of CNN and Alex Thompson of Axios. Biden's First Public Remarks Since Cancer Diagnosis Honor Gold Star Families The reporters' book claims that Biden struggled to string together coherent sentences for campaign ad videos, that his Cabinet meetings were "so scripted" and that Biden's team allegedly plotted a cover-up to hide just how severely his mental faculties had declined. "There is nothing in this book that shows Joe Biden failed to do his job, as the authors have alleged, nor did they prove their allegation that there was a cover up or conspiracy," a Biden spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "Nowhere do they show that our national security was threatened or where the President wasn't otherwise engaged in the important matters of the Presidency. In fact, Joe Biden was an effective President who led our country with empathy and skill." Biden Family Misled Public, Concealed Details On Son Beau's Cancer Diagnosis, New Book Says In addition to the publication of multiple books this year chronicling the deterioration of Biden's mental faculties, leaked audio recordings of Biden's October 2023 interview with former Special Counsel Robert Hur were released in May, showing that Biden struggled to not slur his words and even appeared to forget the year his son died. Biden revealed May 18 that he had an "aggressive form" of prostate cancer, and his office later said he had never received a prostate cancer diagnosis before. Biden told reporters Friday that he is "optimistic" about his diagnosis and is currently receiving treatment in the form of a pill. Biden's Sad Prostate Cancer Diagnosis: Unanswered Questions And Maga Attacks "My expectation is we're going to be able to beat this," Biden said. Earlier Friday, Biden appeared at a Memorial Day sponsored by the Delaware Commission of Veteran Affairs where he honored service members who had lost their lives. "We come together and remember the debt we owe to the American military," Biden said at the event, sponsored by the Delaware Commission of Veteran Affairs. "The military is a solid spine, the spine of our nation," he said. "Our troops, our veterans, our military families, and our Gold Star families in particular. Biden's first public remarks since cancer diagnosis honor Gold Star families

Former President Joe Biden on Friday honored fallen service members and Gold Star families at a Memorial Day service in Delaware, marking his first public remarks since announcing he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. "We come together and remember the debt we owe to the American military," Biden said at the event, sponsored by the Delaware Commission of Veteran Affairs. "The military is a solid spine, the spine of our nation," he said. "Our troops, our veterans, our military families, and our Gold Star families in particular. Only around 1% of all Americans defend 99% of us — 1%. Just 1% of Americans risk the ultimate sacrifice. We owe them so much more than we can ever repay them." Biden Speaks Out For First Time Since Cancer Diagnosis A Gold Star family is the immediate family of service members who died while serving in the line of duty. For the Biden family, the day is deeply personal as May 30 marks 10 years since Biden's son Beau died of brain cancer. He served in the Delaware Army National Guard for more than 10 years, completing a tour in Iraq where he earned the Bronze Star for his service, and became the state's attorney general before his death. Read On The Fox News App Biden said that his son's proudest moment was wearing his uniform and said appearing at the event eased the pain of the loss of his son. He also offered some words of encouragement to others suffering loss as well. Political World Reacts To Former President Biden's 'Aggressive' Cancer Diagnosis: 'Incredibly Difficult' "Everyone who came here today to grieve, who was grieving in your heart, please know you're not alone," Biden said. "You'll never be alone. And your loved one will never be forgotten. Period." Biden said that Beau Biden's son, Hunter, 19, was present at the event, while he reminisced about attending the exact same Memorial Day event as a senator with Beau Biden around the same age. Obama Reacts To Biden Diagnosis: 'Nobody Has Done More To Find Breakthrough Treatments For Joe' The former president also said that politics has become divided, but that the sacrifices of those in the military to defend democracy should unite everyone. "Our troops don't wear a uniform that says I'm a Democrat or a Republican, says I'm an American," Biden said. "I'm an American. That's who I am." Biden announced on May 18 that he had been diagnosed with an "aggressive form" of prostate cancer. The former president's office later said he had never received a prostate cancer diagnosis. The announcement came amid heightened scrutiny about Biden's mental fitness for office, following the publication of multiple books this year chronicling the deterioration of Biden's mental faculties. U.S. Bank Supports Military Members, Their Families, Through Life-Changing Donations

Originally published on U.S. Bank company blog This May, during Military Appreciation Month, U.S. Bank held several events to honor and recognize military and veteran customers, employees and community members. A New Home U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Stuart Fuke was given the keys to a new mortgage-free home May 7 in West Fargo, North Dakota. Fuke, who said he was inspired to join the military by his mother and other dedicated family members, started his service in Great Lakes, Illinois. The Hawaii native, who currently resides in San Diego, California, will continue to pursue a career in culinary arts following his move to the Fargo area. 'This house will actually help me start living life again,' said Fuke. 'It's a good push toward trying to heal again. I'm just honored that Freedom Alliance, U.S. Bank and Thomsen Homes were able to give me that feeling I've never had before.' The life-changing gift is made possible through the bank's Housing Opportunities after Military Engagement (H.O.M.E.) program, in conjunction with Freedom Alliance's Heroes to Homeowners program. Including this donation, U.S. Bank has donated 31 homes valued over $8 million to military families in communities across the country since 2013. Freedom Alliance provides mortgage-free homes to wounded combat veterans through its Heroes to Homeowners program. Delivering care packages Earlier this year, U.S. Bank employees in Minneapolis assembled care packages in partnership with the United Service Organizations (USO), a non-profit founded in 1941 to support members of the armed forces and their families, to be delivered to airmen at the Minot Air Force Base in Minot, North Dakota. The care packages were delivered to the Minot Air Force Base in May to honor and recognize the service and sacrifice these men and women make every day. In addition to the care packages, U.S. Bank supported 50 expecting mothers by donating diapers and wipes during a baby shower event on base. U.S. Bank also supported military spouses by making paracord bracelets, which include a strong, durable cord that can be used for various purposes, that were gifted during a spouse appreciation event. The paracord bracelets were assembled by a group of U.S. Bank employees in Fargo. A Gold Star moment U.S. Bank recently donated new, payment-free vehicles to two Gold Star students at the Bluegrass Museum in Owensboro, Kentucky. Gold Star families are those who have lost an immediate family member in the line of duty while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Parker Madden, a Gold Star son, lost his father, U.S. Army Specialist Russell Madden, who was killed in action in Afghanistan from a rocket-propelled grenade attack on his convoy in 2010. Micaela Trimble, a Gold Star daughter, lost her father, U.S. Army Private First Class Chad Trimble, in 2008 also in Afghanistan. Parker Madden is a student at Western Kentucky University and Michaela Trimble is a recent graduate of Belmont University. These donations are part of the Driven to Serve program, an initiative between Freedom Alliance and U.S. Bank that pairs available vehicles with military families and service members in need and demonstrates the commitment of each organization to support the nation's heroes. In addition to the vehicles, a group of U.S. Bank employees also partnered with the Freedom Alliance earlier this year to assemble care packages that will be given to other Gold Star students who, like Madden and Trimble, received scholarships from Freedom Alliance because of their parents' sacrifice. The vehicles were donated May 13, which was also national Children of Fallen Patriots Day. 'I really feel like Freedom Alliance and U.S. Bank provided for me in a way that my dad wishes he could have provided for me,' said Trimble. A new vehicle U.S. Bank also provided a payment free vehicle to U.S. Army Sergeant John Moore, who grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. While serving in the Army, Moore was an Artillery Forward Observer. Moore was severely injured during his second deployment in Baghdad. After two years of recovery at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Moore now lives in Charlotte, Tennessee, with his wife and children. This is the bank's 91st payment free vehicle donation since 2018 and the 57th in partnership with Freedom Alliance. 'We are honored to support John, a true American hero whose courage and sacrifice inspire us all,' said Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon. 'This donation is more than a gesture of gratitude—it's a step toward restoring the independence and quality of life John fought to protect. Freedom Alliance is proud to support this remarkable family, and we are grateful to U.S. Bank for helping make this gift possible.' Visit 3BL Media to see more multimedia and stories from US Bank

Foundation honors Lake County deputies attacked in deadly ambush

A local foundation honored the Lake County deputies who were ambushed while responding to a service call in Eustis last August. That ambush claimed the life of Master Deputy Bradley Link. Deputies Harold Howell and Stefano Gargano were severely injured. Julie Sulpizio is currently in jail awaiting a competency hearing. She is accused of playing a role in the deadly attack by luring the deputies to her home. Investigators say when deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the neighborhood, Link and another deputy entered the back of a house and were met with gunfire. Link was fatally shot several times. Deputies say Sulpizio's husband and two daughters took their own lives after the attack. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honored those deputies for their bravery and sacrifice at its post-golf awards dinner in Lady Lake Thursday. 'For all their work, everything the do, we want them to know Tunnel to Towers will never forget and we're here to support them,' said Tunnel to Towers Foundation volunteer director John Manning. Groupon offers unbeatable Costco membership deal

When you think of Costco, a few key things probably come to mind - bulk food products, low prices, and those enormous warehouse club stores that give you a workout in the course of your shopping. But there's a lot more to Costco than that. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Costco's business model is different from most traditional retailers'. For one thing, Costco's inventory is far more limited. While a typical supermarket might carry 30,000 to 60,000 SKUs (stock keeping units), Costco is known to limit itself to roughly 4,000 products at a time. Related: Costco quietly drops popular product, saddens fans You might think that number sounds small, given the size of the typical Costco warehouse. But when you really think about it, you won't find nearly the same selection of products at Costco as you will at a Walmart Supercenter, or even a traditional grocery store. The reason? Costco likes to have full control over its inventory. If it limits the number of products it carries, it can negotiate lower prices and ensure better quality control. Image source: Hennessy/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images Another way Costco differs from other retailers is that it charges an annual membership fee to get in the door. Costco does its best to avoid frequent fee hikes. In September 2024, the cost of a basic Gold Star membership rose from $60 to $65, while the cost of an Executive membership increased from $120 to $130. Related: Costco puts famous New York City brand on shelves But the last time Costco raised fees prior to September 2024 was June 2017. So it's hard to complain about an increase, given that seven-year stretch. At the same time, it's tough to overlook the fact that it costs a lot more money to get a Costco membership than to sign up for Sam's Club. A basic Club membership at Sam's Club costs $50 a year, while an upgraded Plus membership costs $110. Sam's Club also commonly offers promotions that make it possible to join at a lower price point. Costco, as a general rule, does not discount memberships. Instead, it strives to offer enough value to make those full-priced memberships worth it. Related: Costco vs. Sam's Club: Memberships & product prices compared If you've been thinking of joining Costco but don't love the idea of paying $65 for a basic membership, there's great news. If you sign up for a Costco membership through Groupon between now and June 22, you'll be eligible for a free $50 digital Shop Card at Costco to use online or for in-store purchases. Related: Costco members angry over very personal product change A Shop Card is Costco's version of the store gift card, and you can use a Shop Card to purchase pretty much anything. Granted, one place you can't use a Shop Card is the Costco food court. Most Costco locations have adopted kiosks where you enter your order on a screen instead of ordering from a store employee, and those kiosks are not set up to accept Shop Cards as payment. But for the most part, signing up through Groupon means you're effectively getting a Costco Gold Star membership for just $15 your first year. It's hard to beat that deal. Now if you're already a Costco member and your fee is coming up for renewal, you may be inclined to jump on this deal. But not so fast. You also can't use this Groupon offer to upgrade an existing membership from Gold Star to Executive. But for anyone looking to take the leap, it's a great opportunity to join Costco at what's essentially a fraction of the cost. Maurie Backman owns shares of Costco.
