Older daters warned of financial pitfalls
As more Australians find new partners in their 40s, 50s, and beyond, these couples often bring with them substantial financial assets, including the family home and a large super pile which could be a risk without the proper conversations. NGS Super financial planner Trudy Jenkin, told NewsWire, while it might not be the most romantic aspect of a relationship, it is important for couples dating later in life to get their finances sorted. 'It's definitely not romance but it can be union building in a way because if you're burying your head in the sand and issues arise down the track in a relationship, it can cause a lot more grief down the track,' she said. couples are getting together later in life. iStock Credit: istock 'But I think people who come together later in life are a lot more pragmatic about these things in terms of financial issues rather than couples who are much younger and you're much more comfortable joining a union because you're often saving towards a common goal like a family or a house.' Ms Jenkins said older Australians who are dating in their 50s, 60s and 70s generally will have at least a modest super balance as well as equity in their family home meaning they have more wealth behind them they might think. She also said these later in life couples also have considerations outside of the couple including helping children from previous relationships. 'They really want to protect their adult kids more potentially than a generation or two ago,' she said. 'It used to be okay. I've done my job, my kids are raised and they have their foot in the housing market. 'But now it may be well, so if something happens to me I want my kids to get my estate so they can at least buy a home that they might not be able to afford otherwise.' Ms Jenkins' advice follows the latest yearly marriage stats released by the ABS in August 2024 showed 118,439 couples were married in Australia. A further 48,700 divorces were granted, although this was a slight reduction from 2023, sliding 1.1 per cent. The Golden Bachelor, coming to Australia, will put a spotlight on later-life romance. Supplied Credit: Supplied According to the ABS Aussies are also getting divorced later in life. Men are now getting divorced at 47.1 years, which is 1.2 years older in 2023 compared with 2019, while for women it is up 1 year to 44.1 This was driven by a fall in divorces among younger people. Ms Jenkins urged those who found a new partner later in life to start thinking about their financial situation as the relationship matures over a certain amount of assets held by the individuals. 'Nobody really wants to have these chats because it feels like if I do this then the inevitable will happen [and the couple breaks up]. 'But if you get it done, put it in the bottom drawer then there's no grey areas. 'If you have great communication to start with on these matters then it's not going to be an issue that will cause grief down the track as both parties are clear and comfortable about their financial arrangements.' With The Golden Bachelor – a television dating show featuring older Australians – coming to Australia in 2025, Ms Jenkins said the spotlight on later-life romance is intensifying. 'Many couples are so caught up in the excitement of new love that they overlook crucial financial considerations,' Jenkins says. 'This oversight can lead to significant problems down the track.' Instead, she urges these couples, especially if one partner wants to protect their wealth coming into the relationship 'I don't think everybody necessarily needs a binding financial agreement but if you've got both parties on the same page about it, or at least one party wanting to protect their wealth, it certainly goes a long way to protecting that,' she said. 'You might have both people totally opposed to it and that's fine for their relationship … but with one in two couples ultimately separating the odds are necessarily in your favour.'

Who won 'Farmer Wants a Wife' 2025? A look at who's still together
Who won 'Farmer Wants a Wife' 2025? A look at who's still together Show Caption Hide Caption Jesse Palmer reveals Mel Owens as the next 'Golden Bachelor' Former NFL player Mel Owens, a dad to two sons, was introduced as the Season 2 "Golden Bachelor" at a Hulu event in Los Angeles on April 22. Entertain This Warning: Spoilers from the season finale of Fox's "Farmer Wants a Wife" Season 3 ahead. From their attire to their values, Karina Sabol looked like the perfect match for Farmer Jay during the Season 3 finale of "Farmer Wants a Wife." In fact, at the end of the first hour, following a successful family visit, it appeared Sabol and Farmer Jay might very well end up together. This is perhaps why some viewers were surprised when Sabol did not become the farmer's final choice. Sabol, an operations manager from Madison with an athletic background that bonded her with the show's lead, entered the finale of the Fox reality show as one of two women left on Farmer Jay Woods' Alabama farm. The former college gymnast's parents and sister met Woods and his parents in the first hour – fellow finalist Grace Clark met his family during last week's episode. As the episode wound up to its climactic conclusion, Woods and the three other farmers on the show made their selections – and, despite their seeming synchronicity, Sabol got the boot in favor of Clark. The show's concept revolves around the farmer finding a wife, however, there were no proposals at the end of the episode, and whether anything long-term comes from the relationships is yet to be determined. Who won 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 3? Woods, a former college football player who now operates his family farm in Florence, Alabama, picked Clark, a 23-year-old nanny from Washington, as his supposed bride-to-be. The spark between Woods and Clark was on display from the very first episode when he chose her for his inaugural solo date. Now, weeks later, he selected her again, this time to be the winner. But first, he had to say goodbye to Sabol. Woods opened by saying that while she made the experience great for him, when listening to his heart, his connection with Clark was at a different level. Sabol, clearly disappointed, told Woods that their relationship was more of a "slower burn," and that she was happy for him. "I'm sad," she said. "We had a connection. I tend to foolishly love, and I may have done that. It has to be a two-way street, and it wasn't for us." When it was time for Woods to confess his love to Clark, he told her he envisioned a future together, noting that their birthdays were just a few days apart and their faith had brought them together. "I believe there are many signs that tell me this is my person, the stars really align," he said. "I would love if you want to continue to build this relationship, with a potential for me to fall in love with you." After the two embraced, Woods also gifted Clark a puppy, later telling producers: "I think Grace is the love of my life." 'Farmer Wants a Wife' full winners list As for the other farmers, here's a rundown on who they picked: Farmer Colton chose Zoe Green over Keeley Goldberg Farmer John chose Claire Dirette over Lily Ayres Farmer Matt chose Chelsi Davis over Jordyn Mallory Who is still together on 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 3? It's not clear based on the season finale if any of the couples are still together. Filming for this season took place in fall 2024.

'What Fun To B Together Xx U Look Sooo Happy,' one fan swooned. Another offered: 'You look great up there! So good to see you so happy. You deserve it.' Captioning the images, Samantha revealed that she and Georgina had been indulging in their passion for horses since childhood. The Armytage sisters have come a long way since Adaminaby Pony Club in the 80's/early 90's. 17,000kms to be precise,' she wrote. 'Probably the first time Daryl Braithwaite has belted out across Wimbledon Common ~ but what fun to womble our way around this morning with Honey, Rosie, Fudge- the -Shetland & the gang. She continued: 'Pls note Georgie's "hands & heels"; a throw back to our PC days…& my Honey; at 17 hands ~ not bad for an old girl with a new hip - the both of us (no wonder I need the steps.' Samantha's UK jaunt comes after she announced her shock split with husband Richard Lavender late last year. Sam and Richard's separation was planned to be leaked to a Sydney newspaper in December, but sources confirmed the news to Daily Mail Australia in advance. 'Yes Richard and I have separated. All breakups are hard, but it's somewhat lessened by the fact it's amicable and we wish the best for each other,' Samantha told media following the revelations. 'I appreciate you respecting our privacy. I won't be making any further comment.' It is understood Samantha's television presenter friends had been comforting the star behind the scenes for some time. Samantha is no longer followed on Instagram by Richard's two daughters, Sascha and Grace, although the former couple still follow each other. Samantha started dating Richard in April 2019, and they announced their engagement in June 2020, before tying the knot at his property in rural NSW six months later. Sam certainly hasn't been resting on her laurels though, with the popular presenter currently filming the anticipated Nine reality series The Golden Bachelor. Daily Mail Australia exclusively revealed Barry 'Bear' Myrden, a 50-something infrastructure engineer and passionate sailor from Sydney, has been handpicked as the leading man for the upcoming Australian adaptation. In exclusive pictures, Barry was seen filming the show in Sydney in March, and his cast of leading ladies have since been spotted arriving at the Sydney mansion where filming will take place. Unlike The Bachelor and The Bachelorette which feature young men and women, the Golden Bachelor is targeted at a more mature audience eager to watch how those who have already experienced great love and loss are chasing companionship in their next chapter. 'Bear is not your usual reality TV type,' an insider told Daily Mail Australia. 'He's charming, intelligent and has really lived a full life. He's been through love, loss and now he's ready to open his heart again. Women are going to adore him.'

EXCLUSIVE Golden Bachelor-style reboot on the cards for Farmer Wants A Wife after 'nightmare season' leaves producers desperate for change - but could it be too late?
After a year of behind-the-scenes chaos, Farmer Wants A Wife is undergoing a major overhaul – but insiders fear it may be too little, too late. Daily Mail Australia can reveal that producers are now pivoting the show's format in a bold new direction, casting older 'silver fox' farmers for the upcoming 2026 season. The decision follows mounting fan pressure to raise the age of both the farmers and contestants, and comes as Channel Nine gears up to launch the most anticipated shows of the year, The Golden Bachelor Australia. But while producers are hoping a more mature cast will bring some much-needed stability, sources close to production say the drama that unfolded during the 2025 season has left deep scars – and they're not convinced the chaos is over. 'This season nearly broke everyone,' a senior show source told Daily Mail Australia. 'We had walkouts, meltdowns, secret hookups and then, at the eleventh hour, we had to completely cut one of our lead farmers out of the show. It was a disaster. So much money went down the drain.' That farmer – revealed to be Jack Rowlandson – had filmed an entire storyline before being abruptly scrubbed from the final edit. Rumours swirled he was caught dating someone outside the show shortly after filming wrapped, prompting executives to axe his scenes entirely. The decision cost producers tens of thousands of dollars and forced a last-minute scramble in post-production to re-edit the series without him. And that was just the beginning. Throughout the season, contestants clashed with producers, with some accusing the show of being 'emotionally orchestrated' and manipulated to manufacture drama. One contestant, Ellen, publicly claimed she felt pressured to stay in uncomfortable situations for the sake of the storyline, adding that the process left her mentally exhausted. Meanwhile, several female contestants reportedly broke down off-camera, struggling with the isolated conditions on the farms and the emotional toll of filming. Two women, Emmie and Bridget, allegedly walked off within 24 hours of arriving at Farmer Tom's property - exits that were never properly addressed on air, raising suspicions that production covered up the fallout. Other incidents added fuel to the fire. Contestant Ella was spotted in Cairns getting cosy with a farmer she hadn't even been matched with, sparking 'couple swap' rumours. And at least two contestants accidentally spoiled the show's ending on Instagram by posting photos with new partners, confirming they didn't end up with their assigned farmers. Even Farmer Thomas caused off-screen drama after allegedly sneaking off for a private meeting with an ex-flame, sparking tension with his chosen suitor Clarette. With fan forums ablaze and Reddit threads dissecting the show's every move, producers were also accused of covering up explosive fights and emotional breakdowns that never made it to air. There were also growing concerns that some farmers were using the platform to boost their personal brands. 'One of them was openly talking about launching a music career,' an insider said. 'It felt like they weren't even trying to hide it.' In an effort to reset the show's reputation, casting agents have now begun approaching older men for the 2026 season, with the hope of channelling the success of The Golden Bachelor while bringing FWAW back to its wholesome, romantic roots. One potential suitor, 40-something Alistair from Central West NSW, told Daily Mail Australia he was contacted directly and encouraged to apply. 'They made it sound like they really want men who are genuinely looking for love, not followers or fame,' he said. 'They want to clean things up.' Still, insiders warn that older contestants won't necessarily mean less drama. 'Don't let the grey hair fool you,' one source laughed. 'Some of the Golden Bachelor cast are already leaking stories saying it's absolute chaos. Older doesn't always mean calmer.' With a costly season behind them and a major format shift ahead, producers are crossing their fingers that maturity brings peace – but if this year proved anything, it's that love in the countryside is never drama-free.

'The Bachelor' meets 'Fixer Upper' in new HGTV series
'The Bachelor' meets 'Fixer Upper' in new HGTV series Show Caption Hide Caption Jesse Palmer reveals Mel Owens as the next 'Golden Bachelor' Former NFL player Mel Owens, a dad to two sons, was introduced as the Season 2 "Golden Bachelor" at a Hulu event in Los Angeles on April 22. Entertain This The "Bachelor" mansion is getting the HGTV treatment. The luxurious backdrop to more than 40 seasons of ABC's "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" is getting a facelift, courtesy of some of the lovestruck hopefuls who have stayed in its bedazzled halls. Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of "Bachelor" producer Warner Bros. Unscripted Television and home renovation network HGTV, announced a new series on May 14: "Renovating the Bachelor Mansion" (working title). The new unscripted show will see former "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" contestants, who (hopefully) have skills in interior design and home renovation, returning to compete in design challenges on the property in hopes of winning a cash prize. The new series is set for 2026 on HGTV and the newly redubbed HBO Max. The famed "Bachelor" mansion is located in Aurora Hills, CA, and is a sprawling, Mediterranean-style villa that has previously been rented out on Airbnb for $6000 a night. It has been the setting for catfights, first kisses, group dates, breakups and countless rose ceremonies since the reality dating franchise began in 2002. It might look a little different in future seasons after the former bachelors and bachelorettes get their hands, and sledgehammers, on it. The new series was announced at WBD's 2025 upfront presentation in New York, an annual event in which networks and streaming services show off upcoming content to advertisers in the hopes of selling commercial time. Other new series were announced at the event, including toe-tapping Shark Week addition "Dancing With Sharks" (working title) for Discovery Channel, "Guy's Flavortown Games" on Food Network featuring Guy Fieri and a new "90 Day Fiancé" spinoff on TLC, "90 Day: Hunt For Love."
