Volkswagen Golf GTI: Check out 5 key highlights of the newly launched sporty hatchback

The Volkswagen Golf GTI has been one of the most iconic hatchbacks of all time globally. Often considered a spiritual successor to the Volkswagen Beetle, this performance-oriented hatchback has been updated through eight generations before making its way to India. The Golf GTI hatchback has a tall history attached to it and is a proper collector's car with a limited number of units being brought to the Indian market. With over 37 million Golf units sold globally, this isn't just another product in Volkswagen's portfolio, it is the company's first serious attempt to cater to Indian driving enthusiasts who value performance and global design pedigree in a compact form factor. ₹ 53 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 44.9 - 55.9 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 48.1 - 49 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 54.9 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 18.9 - 26.9 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 11.5 - 17.6 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon (Also check out: Upcoming cars in India) But what is it that makes the Golf GTI special? Flicking the hatchback into corners almost instantly makes the car change its direction. The multiple technologies that are at work to improve the handling include ESC, ABS with EBD, anti-slip regulation, electronic differential lock, engine brake assist, VAQ Front LSD, along with suspension tuned to be on the stiffer side, making it sportier. The Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 260 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. It comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph. On the outside, the Golf GTI Mk 8.5 wears a familiar Volkswagen design language, clean, modern lines with subtle but sporty detailing. The front fascia features sleek LED headlamps, a glowing LED VW badge and the classic GTI badging. The rear gets LED tail-lamps, a roof-mounted spoiler, and dual exhaust tips. The car rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and is available in four colours: Kings Red Metallic, Moonstone Grey, Oryx White Pearl and Grenadilla Black Metallic. (Also read: Volkswagen Golf GTI vs Mini Cooper S vs Mercedes-AMG A 45 S: Which one offers best value for money?) Inside, the Golf GTI has a driver-focused layout. The 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system is slightly angled towards the driver for better accessibility and there's a fully digital instrument cluster for essential driving information. Additionally, there is a three-spoke GTI steering wheel, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging and support for connected tech. Along with this futuristic touch, the Golf GTI also stays old school at the same time with a tartan pattern. While rear seat space may not be its strength, it still gets ample space for two at the rear. The 380-litre boot space also adds to the overall practicality. Priced at ₹52.99 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory), the Golf GTI enters the Indian market through the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route. This means limited availability and higher costs due to import duties. At first, bookings were opened for just 150 units, catering to a niche audience, but due to strong demand, the German manufacturer quickly added 100 more to the lot. It's a statement product aimed at enthusiasts who want something unique without compromising on performance. In India, the Golf GTI will rival a select group of premium compact cars and entry-level performance models. These include the Mini Cooper S and Mercedes-AMG A 45 S, which offer a mix of driving dynamics, badge value and luxury within similar pricing.

Car Deal of the Day: Bag the iconic Volkswagen Golf GTI for under £300 a month

Illustrious heritage Fun to drive; 261bhp Just £294.10 a month The Volkswagen Golf GTI has been a go-to hot hatchback for 50 years, on account of its perfect blend of performance, practicality and pleasingly discreet styling. Naturally, with such a pedigree, you wouldn't expect to get a GTI for pennies. But, our Deal of the Day might go some way to change your expectations. Advertisement - Article continues below First Vehicle Leasing, through the Auto Express Find a Car service, is offering the spicy hatch for just £294.10 – that's the cheapest we've seen it for, well, we can't remember. This two-year deal requires £3,828.15 to be put down first as an initial payment – a bit chunky, yes, but this helps to keep the monthly payments down. Mileage is capped at 5,000 a year, but this can be tweaked up to 8,000 a year for £16.40 a month. At the heart of the GTI is its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that pumps out 261bhp. If that sounds a lot, then it is – the most recent update for the Golf, the Mk8.5, saw a near 20bhp power hike over its predecessor. Thanks to that, along with a snappy seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox (there's no manual option available any more), 0-62mph takes a rather rapid 5.9 seconds, and top speed is limited to 155mph. The main reason the GTI is so brilliant is how well rounded it is. It's just as at home on the school run on tight, congested city streets, as it is threading together twisting country roads. Being a high-spec model in the Golf range, the GTI gets plenty of bells and whistles. Standard equipment includes matrix LED headlights, LED rear lights with 'dynamic' indicators, heated front seats, and 30-colour ambient lighting. And, because it's a GTI, the seats are trimmed in 'Jacara' check cloth. The Car Deal of the Day selections we make are taken from our own Auto Express Find A Car deals service, which includes the best current offers from car dealers and leasing companies around the UK. Terms and conditions apply, while prices and offers are subject to change and limited availability. If this deal expires, you can find more top Volkswagen Golf GTI leasing offers from leading providers on our Volkswagen Golf GTI hub page. Volkswagen Golf GTI launched in India as VW's second GTI badged car, challenging Mini Cooper S and Mercedes-AMG A 45 S

Volkswagen Golf GTI has been launched in India after a long wait. One of the most awaited cars, Volkswagen Golf GTI has been launched in the country at an introductory price of ₹53 lakh (ex-showroom). Volkswagen claims the first batch of the Golf GTI hot hatch has been sold out completely. With the first batch of 150 units already sold out, the German auto manufacturer is now mulling the plan of bringing a second batch, which will have 100 units. Powering this model is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a seven-speed DCT automatic gearbox. This engine is capable of churning out 260 bhp peak power and 370 Nm of maximum torque. It is capable of sprinting 0-100 kmph in 5.8 seconds at a top speed of 250 kmph. (Also read: Upcoming cars in India) The Volkswagen Golf GTI has been launched as a second GTI based car from the carmaker, as previously, the OEM launched the Polo GTI back in 2016. The Volkswagen Golf GTI comes positioned between the Mini Cooper S two-door and Mercedes-Benz AMG A 45 S, in the Indian market. Here is a quick look at what the Volkswagen Golf GTI rivals offer. The two-door Mini Cooper S comes priced between ₹44.90 lakh and ₹55.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the Mini Cooper S significantly cheaper compared to the newly launched Volkswagen Golf GTI. Unlike the VW hot hatch, the Mini Cooper S comes available in multiple variant options, which are the Classic Pack ( ₹50.45 lakh), Favoured Pack ( ₹53.40 lakh) and JCW Pack ( ₹55.90 lakh). Powering this model is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that is paired with an automatic gearbox and churns out 201 bhp peak power and 300 Nm of maximum torque. The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S is another option for the consumers who seek to buy a performance in this space. However, at ₹94.80 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S comes priced at nearly double compared to the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Powering this model is a 2.0-litre engine mated to an automatic gearbox pumping out 415.71 bhp peak power and 500 Nm of maximum torque. It is capable of running at a top speed of 270 kmph.
