Charles Barkley Predicts Winner of PGA Championship Without Hesitation
The excitement and anticipation are palpable in the golf world this week as the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in North Carolina is set to begin on Thursday morning. Some of the top golfers from both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf League will compete for the season's second major. Ahead of Thursday's tee-off, CBS Sports—who will be broadcasting the tournament over the weekend—interviewed several prominent figures from across the sports world, including J.J. Watt and Chris Paul. But one opinion that stood out came from none other than NBA legend and avid golf fan Charles Barkley. Advertisement While Barkley may have one of the funkiest swings in the game for a former athlete, his love for golf is well-known. He's even been rumored to be improving over the last few years. Still, he closely follows the sport and didn't hesitate when asked to predict a winner at Quail Hollow. His pick? Rory McIlroy. Barkley believes McIlroy will capture not only his second major of the year—after winning the Masters—but also his fifth PGA Championship title overall. "My pick to win the PGA Championship is Rory McIlroy," Barkley said. "I think he's on a roll right now, and getting that Grand Slam took all the pressure off his back. His confidence is sky-high at the moment." McIlroy is a popular pick—and understandably so—given how well he has performed in the PGA Championship throughout his career. So far in 2025, he's played some of the best golf of his life, already capturing three tournament victories. Advertisement Most recently, he had a strong showing at the Truist Championship in Philadelphia, finishing 10-under and tying for seventh in the field. May 10, 2025; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Rory McIlroy looks on on the tenth hole during the third round of the Truist Championship golf tournament. Bill Streicher-Imagn Images According to DraftKings Sportsbook, McIlroy holds the second-best odds to win the tournament, trailing only Scottie Scheffler, who, despite his dominance elsewhere, has yet to claim a PGA Championship victory in his young career. Rory McIlroy skips £1.3m payday as LIV Golf star who ignored him boosts net worth
One rising star of the LIV Golf League continues to prove he was perhaps justified to ignore Rory McIlroy's advice in favour of featuring on the Saudi-funded series Rising golf star Tom McKibbin is perhaps proving he was right to snub Rory McIlroy 's advice against joining LIV Golf. Despite a 47th-place finish in South Korea on Sunday, the Belfast-born prodigy pocketed another substantial sum for his efforts. The 22-year-old carded a 74 in each of his first two rounds at LIV Golf Korea before an improved Sunday saw him finish on four over. That was far behind Bryson DeChambeau 's impressive 19-under victory, but he still took home a consolation prize to make most of his peers envious. Belfast Live reported that out of 54 players, only seven ranked below McKibbin in Incheon. Yet he still walked away from the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club £92,250 richer, highlighting the lucrative allure that likely enticed him away from the DP World Tour in the first place. Masters champion McIlroy, 35, advised his Northern Irish compatriot against joining the controversial LIV series. But even the PGA Tour advocate would likely admit he can see why certain colleagues would be tempted to LIV's shores given the grand gulf between earnings on offer. "If I were in his position, I wouldn't make that decision," McIlroy had said back in January when McKibbin announced his move. The youngster defected to Saudi-funded LIV despite being on the cusp of his PGA Tour debut following his success on the European Tour. Meanwhile, McIlroy took a break from competition and watched from the sidelines while Scottie Scheffler clinched a £1.3m win at the Byron Nelson in McKinney, Texas. McIlroy announced earlier in 2025 that he intended to play a relaxed schedule to spend more time with his family. No1-ranked Scheffler finished 31-under across four rounds – eight ahead of runner-up Erik van Rooyen – to secure his first PGA Tour win of the year. In doing so, he matched the Tour's 72-hole scoring record, now shared with Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg. Rasmus Hojgaard finished 48th at the Byron Nelson but pocketed just £20,800 for his troubles. That equates to less than a quarter of McKibbin's pay despite playing 33% more golf over the past weekend. Some may still question the decision to represent the Saudi-funded series over golf's established Tours. However, the pay disparity illustrates what is driving those who have left – and continue to leave. McKibbin also recently bagged £565,000 after Legion XIII triumphed in the team event at LIV Golf Mexico City in April. This meant he shared a £2.6m prize pot with team-mates Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Caleb Surratt. This marks the second time this season that the former Belfast Royal Academy student has managed to grab a slice of the pie. Legion XIII kicked off the 2025 campaign in style by also winning the team event at the season-opening LIV Golf Riyadh in February. To put these figures into greater context, McKibbin has now won approximately £3.3m from just seven tournaments playing for LIV. Meanwhile, he took home £2.5m from 72 competitions playing under the DP World Tour banner. McIlroy is set to compete next at the Truist Championship, which will get underway at the Philadelphia Cricket Club on Thursday. The Grand Slam champion will be eyeing his slice of the £15m prize fund, with a whopping £2.7m earmarked for the winner.

LIV Golf Mexico City: Legion XIII has strong Round 3 to rally for the win
Some of the LIV Golf League's biggest names put on a show down the stretch in the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City, but it was Joaquin Niemann who ultimately claimed the individual title on Sunday at Club de Golf Chapultepec, while Legion XIII held on to win the team title. Torque GC captain Niemann started the round two shots behind leader Bryson DeChambeau, but he charged up the leaderboard on Championship Sunday to finish at 16 under and claim his third victory in six events this season. Playing in the final group with DeChambeau and Cameron Smith, Niemann carded seven birdies and only a single bogey for a final-round, 6-under 65. The victory keeps him firmly in the lead for the season-long individual championship race, in which he finished runner-up last season to Jon Rahm. [MORE: What is LIV Golf? Legion XIII won the team competition despite starting the day five shots off the lead held by Ripper GC, but they made up ground quickly and eventually finished at 28 under, holding off Ripper GC (26 under), who finished second, and 4Aces GC (21 under), who rounded out the podium in third. Captain Rahm (68), Tyrrell Hatton (68), Caleb Surratt (69) and Tom McKibbin (70) combined for Legion XIII's second win of the 2025 season and sixth overall team title since their inception at the beginning of 2024. 2025 LIV Golf odds: Value exists with second-tier golfers in Miami
The LIV Golf League is headed back to America. After stops in Saudi Arabia, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore, we're headed to Trump National Doral in Miami, Fla. It'll be the first stateside event this season, and it'll serve as a major tune-up for anyone headed to Augusta. Dean Burmester earned the victory in Miami last year. Most of the marquee names are playing this weekend and Jon Rahm (+600) sits atop the betting board at DraftKings Sportsbook. He's a dollar ahead of Joaquin Niemann (+700) and three up on Bryson DeChambeau (+900). Odds to win LIV Golf Miami Jon Rahm: +600 (bet $10 to win $70 total)Joaquin Niemann: +700 (bet $10 to win $80 total)Bryson DeChambeau: +800 (bet $10 to win $90 total)Tyrrell Hatton: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total)Sergio Garcia: +1400 (bet $10 to win $150 total)Brooks Koepka: +1600 (bet $10 to win $170 total)David Puig: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)Abraham Ancer: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)Dean Burmester: +2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total)Tom McKibbin: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)Patrick Reed: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)Louis Oosthuizen: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)Paul Casey: +2800 (bet $10 to win $290 total)Sebastian Munoz: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)Marc Leishman: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)Cam Smith: +3000 (bet $10 wins $310 total) There's no argument with Rahm as the favorite and Niemann will be assuredly popular given he's won two of the four tournaments so far this season. But favorites aren't exactly my style. One of the first things I do before making a golf bet is cross-reference American odds with the prices Jeff Davis has at Circa Sports in Las Vegas. Davis is one of the premier golf bookmakers in the country, and it's always worth it to compare his market with other sportsbooks. Circa is currently dealing shorter numbers on the favorites — Rahm (+505), Niemann (+600) and DeChambeau (+675) — which naturally increases the prices on the second and third-tier golfers down the board. For example, Abraham Ancer is 20/1 at DraftKings and 32/1 at Circa. "We're writing mostly sharp action on LIV events," Davis told FOX Sports. "It allows us to mold our prices quickly, and we can take chances on golfers that aren't drawing much sharp attention at the window." Elsewhere, Davis and Co. are daring you to place an outright bet on a guy like Louis Oosthuizen. Circa has Oosthuizen at 43/1 while other shops are closer to the 20 to 25/1 range. That's the definition of a book taking a stance. "Give 'em fair odds and see what happens," Davis added. I prefer to bet head-to-head matchups over outrights. The payouts aren't as exorbitant, but you obviously have a much easier chance to beat one golfer instead of the entire field. Ancer (-115) over Paul Casey (-105) is one of my favorite matchups that's being offered at DraftKings. If you're looking to wager a little pizza money on a LIV Golf Miami outright winner, I'm never against betting Brooks Koepka in the 20/1 range. And maybe Chris "The Bear" Fallica is eyeing Tom McKibbin at 25/1. Whatever you do, be sure to get the best of the number.
