That includes Akshay Bhatia, who recently revealed that he had been putting pressure on himself to make the team all season and it has affected his results. Bhatia is co-leading the 3M Open after 54 holes. However, he remains grounded about his slim chances of making the 12 at Bethpage Black under Keegan Bradley. "I think I'm on the far outside looking in at this point," Bathia told reporters, according to the transcripts of his post-third round interview. "Look, if I play great these next couple weeks, then maybe I'll have an outside chance." Bhatia currently ranks 24th in the American Ryder Cup team standings. A victory at the 3M Open would move him into the top 20 and even closer to the top 15. This, he said, has been influenced by the pressure he put on himself to play in the biannual event for the first time. "I definitely feel like it's been a demoralizing season for most of the year," he said, according to the transcripts. "Obviously (the) Players was my best finish and felt like I had a lot -- you know, I had a really good chance to win there." "And then after that it's just been a decline. Struggled with my driver for a little bit, didn't play great in the majors, just too much pressure on myself trying to make Ryder Cup, trying to win, trying to contend in majors." However, he hasn't achieved another top-10 finish since then and missed the cut at two of the season's four majors. The 23-year-old still has a chance to make up ground, as he'll be playing in the Wyndham Championship and likely two of the three FedEx Cup playoff tournaments. However, he preferred to be cautious about the matter and simply send his best wishes to the team. "All in all, you know, regardless if I make the team or not, I just really want us to succeed this year. I think it's a big Ryder Cup and I know Keegan's got a lot on his plate, obviously a potential player, so I just hope the best for them." Bryson DeChambeau accused of 'pathetic behaviour' as new footage from The Open emerges

Bryson DeChambeau has been criticised after being involved in a curt exchange with a ball spotter as he played his way back into contention at The Open Championship Bryson DeChambeau has been slammed for the way he spoke to a volunteer at The Open Championship. The two-time major winner tore up Royal Portrush with a final-round birdie blitz to seal a top-10 finish on Sunday. ‌ An opening-day 78 left the LIV Golf star in danger of missing the cut but he responded with a 65 to make the weekend, where he shot 68 and 64, the latter with seven birdies, to end on nine under, eight shots behind champion Scottie Scheffler. ‌ However, DeChambeau has since come under fire for the way he spoke to a ball spotter after missing the fairway off a tee and finding thick rough. ‌ Camera phone footage of the exchange, shared Golf on CBS, shows DeChambeau eventually finding his ball and then abruptly telling the spotter: 'You can move out of the way, thank you.' As the spotter walks away, a smiling DeChambeau then appears to say: 'Stood right in front of me.' The exchange did not sit well with some golf followers, with some accusing the 31-year-old of 'pathetic behaviour'. One said: 'If you were the spotter and he said that to you, you'd be a Bryson hater for life.' Another added: 'The volunteer was standing there because from that vantage point he could see the ball, and he was waiting for Bryson to acknowledge seeing it. 'In fact, Bryson's first words were, 'Where is it?' So clearly he needed the spotter to show him. Once that was done, Bryson gave the spotter ZERO time to move out of the way before he copped an attitude.' A third said: 'Come on Bryson, this is pathetic behaviour, no matter how rich and good at golf you are.' A fourth argued: 'Bryson literally was there for a second. The spotter was probably just making sure he'd definitely seen his ball.' ‌ However, other fans defended DeChambeau, insisting he wasn't rude to the spotter. One said: 'I'm not Bryson's biggest fan, but he said thank you and ok. Maybe could have waited a moment more before asking the spotter to move, but I don't think it's a big deal at all. Move on.' A second agreed, saying: 'Nothing wrong with this. Bryson got to his ball and there's a spotter who's just standing 5ft away. He did his job, move on.' Another fan saw a lighter side to the exchange, joking: 'Bryson treating that spotter like a traffic cone is the real highlight of The Open.' ‌ Meanwhile, despite his strong finish at The Open, DeChambeau admitted he is yet to crack Links courses, an issue he admitted he needed to address before the tournament. He said after his final round: 'Look, it was fair conditions the past few days. I always told you guys I like it when it's fair conditions. I can play well. 'I still have to crack the code when it's raining and windy but I feel like we're getting close to some opportunities and solutions for that. 'It just takes a long time to develop stuff. I'm starting to learn. It was a fun three days. I was really proud of the way I turned it around.'

Bryson DeChambeau's ‘uncomfortable exchange' with British Open ball spotter divides fans

Bryson DeChambeau is catching heat from some on social media after his exchange with a ball spotter at last week's British Open went viral. In a video shared Tuesday by Golf on CBS — that was titled 'An uncomfortable exchange between Bryson DeChambeau and a ball spotter at The Open' — the LIV Golf star asked the spotter where his ball landed in the rough at Royal Portrush, with the staffer pointing to the area. Before DeChambeau, 31, lined up to take the shot, the two-time major champion appeared to say 'thank you' and told the spotter, 'You can move out of the way.' Some golf fans took exception to the conversation and chided DeChambeau's actions in the post's comments. 'Come on Bryson, this is pathetic behavior, no matter how rich and good at golf you are,' one fan wrote. 'That was rude yo. Did you just exposed true self as a fake???' another posted. DeChambeau rallied to a 10th-place finish at the final major of the year after carding an ugly 7-over 78 in the opening round. As the DeChambeau pile-on continued in the comments, with some likening the behavior to 'childish' and a 'lack of class,' others spoke out in defense of the former U.S. Open champion following a seemingly innocuous exchange. 'That wasn't so bad. People just being their typical judgmental selves when they're not in the situation,' a fan posted. 'People overreacting on what he said. Nothing to see here,' another expressed. DeChambeau has evolved from one of golf's most polarizing figures to a fan favorite in recent years, curating a monster YouTube following with his 'Can I Break 50' series featuring the likes of Tom Brady, Phil Mickelson and President Trump, among others. He opened the major season on a high note in April when he sealed his best Masters finish with a tie for fifth. He followed up that performance a month later with a tie for second at the PGA Championship. Although DeChambeau failed to defend his 2024 U.S. Open title after missing the cut in June, he played his way through the weekend in Northern Ireland after a bumpy British Open start. 'I was able to hold myself together under the pressure and fight for every shot,' DeChambeau said after shooting a 7-under 64 in Sunday's final round for a 9-under par total. 'I'm super proud of the round I played today. Just wish I could have that 78 back.' Scottie Scheffler went on to capture his second major of the year with an overall score of 17-under. He won the PGA Championship in May.

Rory McIlroy's haircut confession leaves interviewer in stitches

Rory McIlroy turned heads for more than just his swing this week at The Renaissance Club, where he debuted a striking new buzzcut ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open. Known for his signature curly locks, the Masters champion surprised fans and reporters alike by stepping out with a dramatically shorter trim – one that's sparked everything from amused commentary to comparisons with Mr Bean. The change didn't go unnoticed during CBS's coverage, with one interviewer laughing as McIlroy explained the thinking behind the chop. Rory McIlroy at the pro-am prior to the Genesis Scottish Open. Pic:'You know, I am getting a little grey as everybody probably knows and I stupidly thought that by going shorter, it would take the greys out,' McIlroy admitted. 'If anything, I think it makes me look more grey. It'll grow back, that's the good thing. It'll be perfect for the Ryder Cup in September.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Golf on CBS (@golfoncbs) Jokes and side-by-sides quickly flooded social media, with one fan writing: 'Rory needs to stick to his old hair. Looks 20 years older here with his new cut,' while another quipped: 'Did Rors get in an accident while they were trimming the greens?' But the new look might hint at something deeper than a summer refresh. McIlroy has been out of the spotlight since a T6 finish at the Travelers Championship, spending time off-grid at his new family home in Wentworth and taking a deliberate step back from the PGA Tour grind. Pic:'The one thing I would say about the last couple of weeks is I felt like I could detach a little bit more and sort of hide in a way,' McIlroy said during a press conference. 'Sometimes you need that to completely get away. I feel like this world of golf can become all-encompassing if you let it.' Grey hairs or not, he's clearly not afraid to shake things up – and the buzz (on and off the course) shows no signs of fading.

Rory McIlroy on Verge of Masters Form, Scottish Open Title in Sights

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. We are just one round away from knowing the winner's name at the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, and major signs point to Rory McIlroy. After a blistering Round 3 at The Renaissance Club, McIlroy shares the lead at 11-under with American Chris Gotterup, heading into the final day. And the 5-time major winner's confidence is just in the right place. "I think I'm pretty close to being back to the level I was at going into The Masters," McIlroy said after carding 66 on Saturday. "I've had a little bit of a lull, which I feel is understandable. So I'm just getting back to the level that I know I can play at." That showed as the Grand Slam winner opened his Round 3 with a birdie at the par-5. But it was not smooth, Rory had to make that birdie on the 8th to bounce back from his bogey at the 7th hole. It could have been even better if that bunker shot on the 15th had not bounced out of the cup. "I felt like the conditions were tougher as the day went on, and the back nine played more difficult today than it did yesterday, at least for me. A NEAR HOLE-OUT FROM THE BUNKER FOR RORY 😱 — Golf on CBS ⛳ (@GolfonCBS) July 12, 2025 "But I controlled my ball flight well and did what I needed to do, close on the last two holes as well. Overall happy with the day's work," he said. McIlroy's last win came at Augusta National in April, where he broke his 11-year curse and secured the career Grand Slam. At Renaissance, he's showing similar control, particularly on the back nine, where he's 10-under through 27 holes this week. "To be back here for the last couple of weeks, and feel like I could actually digest all of it... I came to this tournament with renewed enthusiasm and excitement for the rest of the year," the 29-time PGA Tour winner said. If Rory wins this Sunday, it would be his 2nd Scottish Open title and 4th win of the season. Additionally, he'll pocket a total of $1.575 million and earn 500 FedEx Cup points, moving strongly to next week's Open Championship.
