NFL world reacts to shooting in Manhattan league office building

"There's a little bit more to life than just football." Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson was one of many members of the NFL world reacting to the mass shooting that occurred in New York City Monday night. The shooter killed four people and injured at least five others who were present in the Manhattan skyscraper that hosts the NFL league office. According to multiple reports, the gunman was attempting to target the NFL office when he entered the building but took the wrong elevator. One NFL employee was among those wounded in the shooting. A note found on the shooter's body mentioned chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head injuries such as concussions. Here's how those around the NFL community reacted to Monday night's tragedy: NFL world reacts to Manhattan shooting The aforementioned Johnson spoke about the shooting – and former Cubs second baseman Ryne Sandberg's death, which also happened Monday night – putting things in perspective. New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll reportedly began his press conference Tuesday morning offering his thoughts and prayers to those impacted by the shooting. New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn also shared his and the Jets organization's condolences for the families affected by the tragedy. Kyle Brandt reacts to NYC shooting NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" show also reacted to the New York shooting that wounded one of the show hosts' NFL colleagues at the Manhattan league office. Kyle Brandt is one of the daily hosts of "Good Morning Football," and he works out of the Manhattan studio. Here's what he had to say on Tuesday morning: "Heartbreaking news. Last evening, I started getting texts from people around the country asking me if I was OK, not understanding exactly where I work. I do not work in that building; I work significantly downtown, but I am devastated for everyone who does work in that building. "I also just want to say I think this is particularly heartbreaking news because at this company and in that building, this is a time of great excitement and joy, and this week represents hope and rebirth, and some of that was taken yesterday. It's horrible news, terribly sad to hear it, and we at 'Good Morning Football' deeply share our support for the victims' loved ones."

Kyle Brandt delivers emotional statement after gunman targeting NFL headquarters kills 4 in shooting

A gunman targeting NFL headquarters killed four and "seriously injured" a league employee in a shooting Monday. On Tuesday, "Good Morning Football" addressed that shooting, with anchor Kyle Brandt delivering an emotional statement to his friends and colleagues. Jamie Erdahl immediately opened the show with news of the shooting. She shared a statement from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and then turned things over to Brandt, who shared his thoughts on the situation. Brandt's full statement read: "Heartbreaking news. Last evening, I started getting texts from people around the country asking me if I was OK, not understanding exactly where I work. I do not work in that building, I work significantly downtown. But I am devastated for everyone who does work in that building. "I also just want to say, I think this is particularly heartbreaking news because at this company, and in that building, this is a time of great excitement and joy and this week represents hope and rebirth. And some of that was taken yesterday. "It's horrible news. Terribly sad to hear it. And we at 'Good Morning Football' deeply share our support for the victim's loved ones." Brandt was clearly affected by the shooting, and had to briefly gather himself before offering support to the loved ones of those killed or injured in the shooting. Erdahl then thanked Brandt for the statement and called the situation "sad" and "heartbreaking." There were plenty of questions regarding the shooter's motive when news broke of the incident Monday. While it was initially unclear whether the shooter targeted the NFL, New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that was the case Tuesday. Adams said the gunman took the wrong elevator in the building and wound up on floor 33, where he died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. NFL headquarters are located on floors five through eight in the building. This story will be updated.

Lions standout Alex Anzalone named Top-10 linebacker by former NFL LB

The Lions undoubtedly feel very good about their trio of linebackers in Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes. They certainly feel excellent about the first name on that list. Anzalone has become a key leader of not only the defense, but the entire team, being a key component of the Lions turnaround into a Super Bowl contender. Anzalone has also been getting love from the media as one of the better linebackers in the league. A recent example comes from former NFL linebacker and current contributor to Good Morning Football, Manti Te'o. The former Chargers, Saints and Bears linebacker recently named his top ten linebackers in the NFL and Anzalone came in at No. 6 on the list. Before Anzalone's forearm injury, he had 63 tackles in ten games. In four seasons with the Lions, Anzalone has racked up 123 tackles, four sacks and three fumble recoveries. The five linebackers Te'o placed above Anzalone were Bobby Wagner (Commanders), Fred Warner (49ers), Dre Greenlaw (Broncos), Lavonte David (Buccaneers) and Roquan Smith (Ravens). Rounding out his top ten were Zack Baun (Eagles), Nick Bolton (Chiefs), Denzel Perryman (Chargers) and Frankie Luvu (Commanders).

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers reveals at training camp how Mike Tomlin convinced him to sign

Aaron Rodgers just revealed his journey to becoming a Pittsburgh Steeler — and it begins and ends with HC Mike Tomlin. At Saturday's training camp, Good Morning Football's Kyle Brandt had the opportunity to sit down with Rodgers and asked the four-time MVP how Tomlin convinced him to sign with the Steelers — and as it turns out, it was what the head coach didn't do. "It was honestly more about what [Tomlin] wasn't saying," Rodgers said. "At no point during the conversations, which were weekly — at least — did I ever feel like I was talking to a coach who needed something from me. 'I need you to give me this,' 'Give me that,' 'Give me an answer.' It was like you're talking to an old friend. At my age, at my experience, I just really appreciated that." Rodgers continued that it was Tomlin's treatment of him — not as a player, but as a person — that made such a strong impression, which clearly resonated enough for the future Hall of Fame QB to sign on the dotted line. We at Steelers Wire are committed to providing updates on the exciting training camp activities taking place over the next few weeks.
