Higher secondary curriculum revision next year, says Sivankutty
Higher secondary curriculum revision will be implemented next year, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said. He was speaking at the inauguration of 'Varavelppu,' the Plus One Praveshanolsavam, at Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School, Thycaud, here on Wednesday. The Minister said the start of Plus One classes would coincide with the launch of 'Koodeyundu Karuthekan' to equip students to survive challenges. The government aimed at arranging elaborate support mechanisms for not only students but teachers and parents also through this programme. Activities that support students' individual growth and development will be implemented as part of the programme. Schools should not be just spaces that impart knowledge to students; they should be able to aid students' social, emotional, and mental growth. The atmosphere in schools should be of happiness and care. Each student must feel secure and confident of enjoying all support. Counselling service 'Koodeyundu Karuthekan' would include counselling services by experts, personality development classes, cybersecurity awareness, and life skill training. Teachers too would get training to understand students' emotional state and provide support. It would also help parents provide correct guidance at every stage of a child's growth. The Minister said as many as 3.15 lakh students began Plus One on Wednesday. With completion of supplementary allotment, all students would get Plus One admission. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G.R. Anil presided over the function. Antony Raju, MLA, was the chief guest.

Govt. to decide on vacant seats after Plus One admissions: Minister
After the completion of this year's Plus One admissions, the government will examine and decide what to do with seats that regularly remain vacant, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said. At a press conference here on Tuesday, the Minister said a number of seats was likely to remain vacant, particularly in Malappuram, after completion of the admission process. The Minister underlined that the Plus One main phase allotment and admission had been completed without any protests as the government had taken care to ensure that the batches temporarily sanctioned and shifted in previous years had been included in the seat matrix for allotment. Guidelines for submitting applications had also been published along with publication of results. The number of students who had got A+ grade had also come down. Praveshanolsavam Mr. Sivankutty said that for the first time ever, a Praveshanolsavam would be held for Plus One higher secondary students to mark the start of their classes at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The State-level inauguration would be held at Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School, Thycaud, here at 9 a.m. The Minister said that 2.11 lakh students had taken permanent admission in merit quota till Monday evening. In the sports quota, it was 3,428 and in model residential school it was 1,045. As many as 13,609 students had taken admission in community quota; 6,840 in management quota; and 3,826 in unaided quota. In all, 2,40,533 lakh students had taken permanent Plus One admission. As many as 4,24,583 students had passed the SSLC examinations, while 4,63,686 had applied for Plus One admission. As many as 45,851 applicants had submitted applications in more than one district, the Minister said. Incorrect entry Students who had entered their community incorrectly in the applications and so could not take admission in their allotted schools can correct the errors and apply for supplementary allotment. Vacancies and other details for supplementary allotment will be published on June 28. Management quota admissions will be completed on June 27 and the remaining vacancies included for supplementary allotment. SAY exams The Save-a-Year (SAY) examinations would be held in 572 centres in the State, Lakshadweep, and Gulf countries from June 23 to 27. As many as 1.19 lakh students will sit for the examinations. Improvement can be held in one subject. Students who failed can attempt all papers.

Thiruvananthapuram city schools do well in SSLC exams
The capital district of Thiruvananthapuram registered a pass percentage of 98.59 in the SSLC examinations this year. This was the lowest among revenue districts in the State. Kannur had the highest pass percentage this year at 99.87. Last year, Thiruvananthapuram registered a pass percentage of 99.08. Of the 34,314 students who appeared for the examinations from the district, 33,831 became eligible for higher studies. Of them, 17,039 were boys and 16,792 were girls. Neyyattinkara tops Among the education districts, Neyyattinkara topped with a pass percentage of 98.92. Thiruvananthapuram came next with 98.66%, followed by Attingal at 98.28%, the lowest in the State. Of the 13,047 students who sat for the exams in Attingal, 12,822 passed. In the Thiruvananthapuram education district, 10,663 of the 10,808 students passed, and in Neyyattinkara, 10,346 of the 10,459 students who took the exams became eligible for higher studies. As many as 4,938 students secured A+ grade in all subjects in the district. Attingal education district had the highest number of students with A+ grade—1,940. Neyyattinkara had 1,677, and Thiruvananthapuram 1,321. Girls outnumbered boys in securing A+ in all subjects — 3,266 girls as compared to 1,672 boys. Of the 502 Scheduled Tribe students who took the examinations in the district, 274 became eligible for higher studies. 100% success A number of government schools in the city registered 100% success. These include Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School (HSS), Thycaud; Government High School (HS), Jagathy; Government HSS for Boys, Karamana; Government Girls HSS, Karamana; Government Sanskrit HS, Fort; Government Central High School, Attakulangara; Government Model HSS for Boys, Chala; GV Raja Sports School; Government HSS, Pettah; Government HS, Vanchiyoor; Government Girls VHSS, Pettah; Government Medical College HSS; Government Regional Fisheries Technical HS and VHSS; and Government HS, Mannanthala. In the aided sector, schools with 100% pass include Salvation Army HSS, Kowdiar; St. John's Model HSS, Nalanchira; St. Joseph's HSS, General Hospital; NSS HSS Palkulangara; St. Roch's HS, Thope; St. Philomena's Girls HS, Poonthura; CM GHS, Poojappura; NSS HSS, Kesavadasapuram; RKD NSS HSS, Sasthamangalam; Fort Boys HS; and Haji CHMKM Vocational HSS. In the unaided sector, Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Nalanchira; St. Thomas HSS, Mukkolakkal; Christ Nagar English Higher Secondary School; Nirmala Bhavan Girls HSS; Holy Angels' Convent HSS; Carmel Girls HSS; Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vazhuthacaud; Mary Giri EMHS, Kudapanakkunnu; Cordova EMHS, Poonthura; Jyothinilayam EM HSS, Kazhakuttam; Al-Uthuman EMHSS, Kazhakuttam; Lourdes Mount HS Vattapara; Thunchan Smaraka English Medium HS, Ayranimuttom; and SNV HS, Chenkottukonam, registered 100% pass.
