Dame Prue Leith sets record on Great British Bake Off exit after quitting celebrity specials
The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has been a show judge since it moved to Channel 4 from the BBC in 2017 and has given an update after she quit the celebrity version Dame Prue Leith has addressed the rumours that she is going to quit The Great British Bake Off. The renowned TV chef, replaced Dame Mary Berry as a judge on the TV favourite when it moved to Channel 4 in 2017, and has been seen alongside Paul Hollywood ever since. She has also gone on to host Prue Leith's Cotswolds Kitchen for ITV and last year appeared on The Masked Singer. But, earlier this year, she did not appear on the celebrity edition of Bake Off so fans are always asking her if she has quit for good. But that is not the case, and during an appearance on ITV's Lorraine, she told viewers that she only stopped appearing the celebrity version because she needed a break, explaining: "I keep being asked if I'm leaving. This is because I left the celebrity [version]. I stopped doing that last year because I just hadn't had a holiday in the summer for eight years. I've only given up Celebrity [Bake Off]." The TV favourite is currently busy filming the American version of the baking show, and confirmed that she is still very much a part of the original programme. She said: "I still do The Great American Bake Off, which we are filming at the moment, and I still do The Great British Bake Off, which I love, and is the mother of them all." Prue, who was replaced by Caroline Waldegrave as a judge on the latest series of the Stand Up 2 Cancer specials, has no intention of leaving the regular version of the programme, adding: "It's the best job in telly. It's absolutely the best job in telly, I don't have to learn lines, I don't have to have script. I just walk on and eat cake." The star was also quick to heap praise on the addition of Alison Hammond as presenter, who replaced Matt Lucas in 2023 and now carries out hosting duties with Noel Fielding. Noting that the Big Brother legend has had a big impact on the team, she said: "I think Alison has made a huge difference to the team, she gets on so well with Noel with all of us. She's so loving and the bakers adore her, she's like Big Mama!" It was reported earlier this year that Prue had chosen to step back from her duties on the show to relish some well-deserved rest. And at the time, she disclosed: "It's mainly because these things are filmed back to back." She went on to say: "The whole way through the summer, so you start in April and you end at the end of August. Honestly, you get no time off. And, I'm getting a bit old and there's places I want to go." But her replacement is no newbie to the small screen, as Caroline has graced programmes like Chef School, Masterchef, and Tricks of the Trade, and she has also penned several cookbooks. As The Great Celebrity Bake Off gears up for its latest season this weekend, Lady Waldegrave shared her thoughts on succeeding Dame Prue Leith as a judge. She confessed: "I was completely terrified."

Mary Berry's popular lemon drizzle traybake with simple method loved since the 1960s
Mary Berry's classic lemon drizzle cake recipe has been a hit for decades, and now the former Great British Bake Off judge has shared her popular traybake version Lemon drizzle cake remains a firm favourite amongst bakers, but Mary Berry has transformed it into a brilliant traybake version that's absolutely perfect for summer get-togethers. The recipe notes explained: "This really is a top favourite. It is always moist and crunchy. "The cake needs to be still warm when the topping is added so that it absorbs the lemon syrup easily, leaving the sugar on top. Do allow the cake to cool a little, though, if it is too hot, the syrup will tend to run straight through." This treasured recipe hails from Mary Berry's Baking Bible book, and has been winning hearts since the 1960s, reports the Express. This is how you can replicated Mary Berry's lemon drizzle traybake at home: Mary Berry's lemon drizzle traybake Ingredients For the cake 225g butter, softened 225g caster sugar 275g self-raising flour Two teaspoons of baking powder Four eggs Four tbsp of milk Two lemons, grated rind For the crunchy topping 175g granulated sugar Juice of two lemons Method Begin by preparing your 12x9 inch traybake tin with baking parchment, ensuring you press it firmly into each corner. Next, heat your oven to 180C or 160C (fan). Combine all the cake ingredients in a generous bowl and whisk together for approximately two minutes until thoroughly combined. Pour the batter into your lined tin, making sure to scrape every last bit from the bowl and smooth the surface with a spatula. Pop into the centre of your heated oven for roughly 35 minutes, or until the sponge bounces back when gently touched. Let the traybake have a breather in the tin for a bit before gingerly transferring it to a wire rack. For the crowning glory, combine the lemon juice and sugar, then dollop this over the bake while it's still slightly warm. Once it's cooled down, chop it into squares and savour with custard, ice cream or just as it is.

Pregnant Bake Off star Laura Adlington shares 'NOT a before' snap as she poses in underwear for candid body positivity post
Pregnant Laura Adlington stripped down to her underwear on Wednesday as she shared a candid body positivity message on Instagram. The Great British Bake Off star, 36, who announced her pregnancy in April, is an avid advocate for self-love and often encourages her followers to embrace their figures. Taking to her social media page, Laura posed in black underwear in a mirror selfie with 'Not a "before" photo...' penned on top. Opening up with her followers, she wrote: 'Lately, my feed has been full of 'before and after' photos – most of them starting with a body that looks like mine. Or smaller. 'And I get it – people are allowed to change. To feel proud of themselves. 'But I wish more people would think about how they speak about their 'old' selves. The Great British Bake Off star, 36, who announced her pregnancy in April, is an avid advocate for self-love and often encourages her followers to embrace their figures 'Because a lot of us still live in those bodies. Still *are* that body. And it hurts to be reminded, over and over, that your version of a nightmare body is ours. 'The body positivity movement was supposed to make space for people in marginalised bodies, the bodies the world ignores or mocks. 'But it feels like that space is shrinking again – and the loudest voices belong to the people who were never excluded to begin with. 'I'm getting really tired of the fatphobia disguised as wellness. 'Of the casual cruelty in 'progress' captions. Of feeling like simply existing in my body is something I have to defend. 'So no, this isn't a transformation photo… It's a reminder that this body, as it is right now, is enough. And so is yours.' It comes after Laura left her followers in tears as she penned an emotional letter to her unborn baby last month. The star reflected on reaching the halfway stage of her pregnancy after a nine-year fertility battle. Laura confirmed the sex of her first child with her husband Matt in June, after sharing the news they were expecting a baby after quietly 'giving IVF a try.' In the picture, Laura cradled her blossoming bump in a pretty white and blue summer dress, while sharing her letter to her baby in the caption of her post. She began her post: 'Dear baby, We're over halfway. Can you believe it? 'Some days it still doesn't feel quite real, and if I'm honest I still feel like I'm living in a dream. Like I don't deserve this. 'Ever since the day I found out about you, I've been waking up at around 4am. I lie there in the dark, imagining what it will feel like to finally hold you. 'I wonder what kind of person you'll grow into, what your laugh will sound like, what little quirks will make you, you. 'It's been a really long journey to get here, one filled with a lot of heartache. And although I'd be lying if I said we weren't both still waiting for the rug to be pulled from under our feet, we are finally letting ourselves dream a little louder. 'I've been busy making lists of all the things you might need. I can't wait to get your pram and start putting your nursery together – tiny steps towards the day you come home. She finished emotionally: 'But more than anything, I just can't wait to meet you. To hold you. To look into your eyes and finally whisper, 'You're here. We did it.' Meanwhile a storm of fans flooded the TV baker with supportive comments. It comes after Laura reveal the couple are expecting a boy, while sharing a sweet story about how their much-wanted baby was always 'meant to be'. She confirmed her pregnancy in April after 'quietly deciding to give IVF a try' over a year ago. The television baker previously gave up her hopes of having a baby after she was told by doctors that her only chance to get pregnant was to try IVF and she would have to lose a substantial amount of weight first to qualify. Posing with an adorable teddy bear outfit, Laura revealed she and Police Community Support Officer Matt eagerly bought the dungarees not long after she'd come off the contraceptive pill in the hope that their journey to parenthood would be swift. Although Laura was initially 'excited at the thought of finally becoming a mum', she 'had no idea how long or how hard the journey ahead would be'. Alongside the sweet photograph, she wrote: 'True story: About nine years ago, not long after I'd come off the pill, we popped into Tesco to grab a few bits for a family picnic. 'Excited at the thought of finally becoming a mum, I made a beeline for the baby section and picked up this little outfit. I held it up to Matt and said, "Shall we get it?". He laughed and reluctantly agreed. And into the trolley it went. 'Back then, I had no idea how long or how hard the journey ahead would be. Months passed. Then years. Negative test after negative test. So many tears. So much heartache.' Laura admitted she found it difficult seeing her friends and family get pregnant while it wasn't happening for her and Matt - and said she came close to giving away the baby outfit on many occasions. She continued: 'One of the hardest things was watching all our friends and family get pregnant, while we kept waiting with empty arms, wondering "When is it going to be our turn?". 'Over the years, there were times we were caught short needing a baby gift, and I was tempted to give this little outfit away (I didn't really know what else to do with it) until a friend gently asked how I'd feel seeing someone's else's baby in it, and suggested I hang onto it. 'And so I did. Three house moves and nearly a decade later, this tiny outfit has quietly stayed with us, tucked in a bottom drawer, or in the corner of a room that never got touched. 'Unless on very rare occasions I'd find it while spring cleaning and would hold it close to my chest, praying one day our baby might wear it. Well, earlier this year, as many of you know, our prayers were finally answered.' Confirming the gender of the couple's baby and her feelings about expecting a boy, Laura told her followers: 'And recently we found out we're having a little boy. I'll be honest: part of me had hoped for a girl. 'But looking back, we never bought a girl's outfit – just this one. So maybe that's the universe's way of saying this was always meant to be. 'Now, this little outfit isn't just a symbol of hope. It's waiting, just like we are, for the little boy who was always meant to fill it.'

John Torode's MasterChef replacement 'confirmed' as Gogglebox fan favourite following BBC axe
A favourite to replace John Torode on MasterChef has emerged in the wake of the BBC's bombshell announcement that the 59-year-old had been sacked from the show. A Gogglebox fan favourite has emerged as the leading contender to replace John Torode on MasterChef following his dismissal. In a shocking revelation, the BBC confirmed on Tuesday, July 16, that they would not be renewing his contract. It comes after an historic allegation of racism which the Australian chef, 59, strongly denies and claims to have no recollection of, was upheld by an independent investigation into John's co-host, Gregg Wallace. This development followed the termination of Gregg, 60, from MasterChef in light of the inquiry into his conduct. The investigation, carried out by legal firm Lewis Silkin, found that 45 out of 83 accusations levelled against the father-of-three were corroborated. These were predominantly involving inappropriate sexual language and humour. In the aftermath of Gregg and John's departure, Gogglebox star Andi Oliver has surfaced as the prime candidate to host MasterChef, reports the Mirror. According to Great British Menu star Andi is currently the favourite with odds of 5/2 (28.6%). Renowned for her vibrant energy and authority on GBM, Andi's culinary prowess has made her a popular choice among fans and bookies alike. She would also mark history as the first black woman to present the show. The betting markets have responded swiftly to John and Gregg's exit from MasterChef, with odds analyst, Dave James, disclosing that a well-known celebrity chef is also vying for the position. He remarked: "Andi Oliver remains the market leader, but Tom Kerridge is attracting a lot of support. His profile is huge, and he's one of the most trusted names in British food. This could come down to what direction the BBC wants – prestige, relatability, or a bit of both." Tom, who currently stands at odds of 3/1 (25%), runs several eateries, fronts numerous BBC programmes, and is known for marrying haute cuisine with broad appeal, not to mention being the creator of the £37 fish and chips at Harrod's. Poppy O'Toole, an emerging sensation on TikTok and within contemporary food media, is also a contender with odds of 4/1 (20%), followed by Angela Hartnett at 5/1 (16.7%), and Great British Bake Off favourite Nadiya Hussain at 6/1 (14.3%). Elsewhere less unlikely but not without a chance is James Martin and Grace Dent, who stepped in on Celebrity MasterChef alongside John when Gregg withdrew amid an inquiry into his conduct on the programme. Nigella Lawson, Marcus Wareing, and even John's spouse, Lisa Faulkner, also remain possible candidates as the future of MasterChef remains uncertain. Another prominent figure tipped to take over the iconic BBC series is Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt. It's rumoured that the experienced presenter has already secured the role for MasterChef: The Professionals. Matt played it cool regarding the prospect of presenting MasterChef after Gregg's departure earlier this year. Speaking to Muddy Stilettos about potentially co-hosting with John while he was still employed on the show, he remarked: "Well, there's always rumours, but it would be a great gig for sure!".
