Missing Westmoreland County woman returns home and is safe, police say
June 3 update: Police say the missing woman returned home on June 3. She is safe. Read the previous story below. Several law enforcement agencies are continuing their search for a Greensburg woman who went missing on Monday morning. Greensburg resident Lisa Slavnik has been missing from her home on the 200 block of Grant Street since Monday. Slavnick is described as a white, 47-year-old female with gray-blonde hair. She was last seen wearing black pants and a gray ¾ inch pullover with a black, possibly Pittsburgh Pirates, undershirt, and black flip-flops. Law enforcement agencies searching for Slavnik are concerned because she may have suffered a head injury on Sunday night before she went missing. "She was last seen in bed at about 10:30 p.m. last night, and at 6:30 a.m. this morning, she was nowhere to be found," said Detective Sergeant Justin Scalzo of the Greensburg Police Department on Monday afternoon. "She does not have access to her vehicle. She does not have any means, it seems, at this point to purchase anything, having left her purse and debit cards behind. Her cell phone is off." Detective Scalzo provided an update to KDKA-TV on Tuesday, saying that despite multiple agencies from in and around Greensburg taking part in Monday's search efforts, they have come up with no new leads. Greensburg police were able to connect with several neighbors around Grant Street to review their surveillance video, but there was no sign of Slavnik. Detective Saclzo also said that bloodhounds were able to pick up Slavnik's scent from her house and tracked it to the area around the Sheetz at 221 Harvey Avenue and then to Lynch Field Park across the street, but that's where the scent vanished for the dogs. Detective Saclzo says that they don't believe Slavnik has any new friends or a boyfriend who may have picked her up. At this point, Greensburg police are still ruling out foul play, and Saclzo said that they have a ping alert set up on her phone in case it is turned back on. At this point, the detective says they have exhausted most of their leads, and that is why they are still asking the public in Greensburg for their help in the search for this missing person. Police are asking anyone with surveillance or doorbell cameras on their home or business in Greensburg to check those cameras again for any sign of Slavnik from about 10:30 p.m. Sunday until about 10 a.m. Monday. Anyone with information about Slavnik and her whereabouts is asked to contact Greensburg police at 724-834-3800.

Scratch-off worth $1 million sold in Westmoreland County
A scratch-off ticket worth $1 million was sold in Westmoreland County. The Pennsylvania Lottery says a winning $1,000,000 Winnings scratch-off ticket was sold at Rick's Tobacco Outlet on South Main Street in Greensburg. The store gets a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The lottery says scratch-offs are sold at random, so it's not known where winning tickets are sold until after a prize has been claimed. It's not the only winning ticket that was recently sold in the Pittsburgh area. A jackpot-winning Pennsylvania Lottery Treasure Hunt ticket that sold in Washington County for Friday's drawing matched all five balls drawn: 6-13-18-27-29. The person who bought that ticket at the Grab-N-Go on Steubenville Pike in Burgettstown will win $146,552. The store will get a $500 bonus. To play Treasure Hunt, players pay $1 and select five numbers from 1 to 30. More than 51,200 other Treasure Hunt tickets won prizes in Friday's drawing, the Pennsylvania Lottery says. Winners have one year from the drawing date to claim their prizes. The Pennsylvania Lottery says since it began selling tickets in 1972, it has contributed more than $36 billion to programs that benefit older residents, like tax and rent rebates, transportation and care services.

Big Lots' has reopening date for Somerset County stores. When it is
Variety Wholesalers intends to open more than 70 new Big Lots! stores on June 5, including 14 in Pennsylvania. Stores in Johnstown and Greensburg are on that list, according to reporting by USA Today. The Daily American also received an email May 22 from Variety Wholesale's press office confirming the June 5 date for the Johnstown store opening. The Daily American and USA Today are both owned by Gannett Media. The Johnstown store is located at 1425 Scalp Ave. and the Greensburg store is at 6041 Route 30, Suite 20. More business news: Rite Aid announces bankruptcy, store closings. Are any Somerset County stores listed? The June 5 reopening is considered a "soft" open, which means the store will open for business that day without fanfare or special opening day events. A grand opening celebration is scheduled for the fall, according to previous reporting by the Daily American. A total of 219 stores in 15 states across the eastern and southern U.S. are scheduled to open through June under the new Big Lots! brand, which was acquired by Variety Wholesalers earlier this year in bankruptcy proceedings. 'We're thrilled to bring the Big Lots! brand back to life by offering more deals than ever, lots of famous brands and a new apparel department for the entire family,' said Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers, in an April 4 media release from the company. 'We're opening stores quickly so we can serve the community. We know the stores won't be perfect to start, but each week we'll add more new products as we build towards the grand opening celebration in the fall. Every time a customer visits Big Lots! we want them to find something new and exciting!' What it's like to intercept a violent tornado at night
WICHITA — On May 4, 2007, Greensburg, Kansas, was slammed by a 205 mph EF5 tornado that killed 12 and damaged or destroyed much of the town. On Sunday night, it almost happened again as a family of massive, violent tornadoes tore through south-central Kansas. I'd awoken Sunday morning on the south side of Oklahoma City and had been anticipating a big day. The atmosphere was volatile, and something had to give.
