TSX ends flat; investors await trade updates, key earnings
By Nivedita Balu (Reuters) -Canada's commodity-heavy main stock index closed flat on Monday, as investors await earnings and look for potential trade deals between the U.S. and its key trading partners. The S&P/TSX composite index closed up 2.99 points, or 0.01%, at 27,317.00 and touched a new record high of 27,448.51. In the latest trade development, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Sunday he was confident that Washington could secure a trade deal with the EU, but August 1 is a hard deadline for tariffs to kick in. However, EU diplomats said the 27-member bloc is exploring a broader set of possible counter-measures against the U.S., as hopes for a breakthrough deal with Washington dwindled. Traders awaited clarity on U.S.-EU trade talks and looked for additional deals from major U.S. trading partners ahead of President Donald Trump's August 1 tariff deadline. "The market is now waiting for earnings and that's going to be the big thing... everyone is just curious to see just how they go," said Greg Taylor, chief investment officer at PenderFund Capital Management. In the U.S., several industrial and tech firms are set to report their earnings this week, with Alphabet and Tesla kicking off the results season for the "Magnificent Seven" stocks. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq notched record high closes ahead of quarterly results. Canadian miners including Teck Resources and First Quantum Minerals will report quarterly results north of the border this week. Meanwhile, the Bank of Canada in its quarterly survey said Canadian businesses saw less chance of a worst-case tariffs scenario but remained cautious while keeping hiring and investment under check. On the TSX, materials stocks were among big gainers with a 2.2% rise, tracking gold prices. Energy subindex fell 0.95% as oil prices slightly dipped. Among individual stocks, Osisko Development rose 1.4% after the mineral exploration company announced a $450 million credit agreement with funds advised by Appian Capital Advisory.

Tilio spent most of his time back in Melbourne during his time at Celtic, rejoining City on loan for a season and a half long loan deal after failing to make an impact in his first months in Hoops. Despite rumours of another return to Melbourne, Tilio looks set to remain in Europe, with Rapid Wien set to sign the winger. According to Sky Sports Germany, it is a done deal. Tilio will join up with the Austrian side on an initial loan deal, with there being an obligation to buy in the deal too. The Aussie must make 20 competitive appearances for Rapid for the obligation to be triggered, and if he does, Celtic will pocket a fee of around £1.3million. The hoops are guaranteed a loan fee of £346,680, meaning that if the wide man racks up 20 games in Austria, the Hoops will net a small profit on their man who only played 28 competitive minutes in green and white. Tilio joins a long list of names heading for the Parkhead exit door. Nicolas Kuhn, who the Hoops originally signed from Rapid, has already sealed his move to Como, meanwhile Gustaf Lagerbielke has moved to Portugal with Braga winning the race for the Swedish centre-half. Greg Taylor and Scott Bain also departed as their contracts expired, with PAOK and Falkirk sealing deals for the Scots pair respectively, whilst Polish defender Maik Nawrocki headed to Germany on loan. Former Celtic star Greg Taylor stuns PAOK team-mates as he belts out Abba tune for his initiation song Luis Palma has all but confirmed his departure too, with Polish side Lech Poznan being the new home for the Honduran. Palma has already commented on the move, saying "I am very happy with the move. I'm delighted to be joining my new club and it was all done very quickly." Tilio now looks very close to joining the list of players to move on from Celtic this summer. 3 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Greg Taylor wows PAOK teammates with ABBA rendition as Celtic hero performs customary initiation song
Taylor has wasted no time in settling in with his new club since making the move to Greece Greg Taylor had his new PAOK teammates in fits of laughter after the former Celtic defender serenaded them with a rendition of ABBA's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight). The Scotland defender joined the Greek side on a three year deal earlier this month after his contract at Parkhead expired, bringing an end to his six year stay in Glasgow's East End. And is as often customary when arriving at a new club, Taylor and other new recruits were required to get up and sing a song in front of the rest of the players to complete their initiation. And in true Scottish style, the left back embraced the task with open arms by belting out the legendary Swedish pop group's 1979 hit. Taylor, 27, initially joked that the rest of the players ' would not be able to understand him' before breaking into the song with bravado. The ex Kilmarnock defender soon had his teammates laughing and singing along before taking his seat at the dinner table to a round of applause. His signing voice may have caught his teammates by surprise but Taylor's ability on the pitch has already impressed his new manager Razvan Lucescu. Taylor made his unofficial PAOK debut in a 2-1 friendly loss to Ajax earlier this week and has already been branded as a 'super player' by Romanian coach Lucescu, who said: "Greg Taylor is just a super player and we also have Jonjoe Kenny, who showed a lot of intensity and energy. "They both showed they will be very comfortable in our team and both already looked at home. "Both of them have fitted in well to the team and I am happy with their preparations for our first game of the season. "There is still a lot of work to be done to prepare, but I am very pleased with the way the players have adapted to their new club. "They will be big players for us this season."
