Clubs will still want a good start to Cymru North season

However, that's not to say that clubs don't want to gather three-point hauls when the Cymru North action kicks-off again later this month! Brickfield Rangers have made the step-up after brilliantly securing the Ardal North East League title last season and they open on Friday, July 25 with a trip to Rhyl 1879, who won the Ardal North West League. It will be a return to the club where he won honours galore for Rangers' boss Gareth Wilson. Two Flintshire derbies are the pick of the matches the following day. Last season's runners-up Airbus visit Buckley Town, while Holywell Town, who finished in third spot, host Flint Mountain. There are opening Saturday home games for Gresford Athletic and Mold Alex, who tackle Guilsfield and Penrhyncoch respectively. Brickfield's first home match will come against Buckley Town on August 9, while on the same day, Airbus welcome Holyhead Hotspur and there are away days for Mold Alex and Holywell Town against Caersws and Denbigh Town respectively. On August 8, Flint Mountain are at home to Llandudno and Gresford entertain Ruthin. Christmas crackers are sure to be in store with half-a-dozen tasty Boxing Day encounters. Amongst there will be Holywell's clash away to Flint Mountain, Buckley at Llandudno, Mold hosting Caersws and Airbus heading to Newtown. On December 27, there's a big showdown as Gresford host Brickfield, while Eddie Maurice-Jones' Athletic visit Denbigh on New Year's Day. Airbus are at home to Flint Mountain on the same day, while Mold make the short trip to Buckley, and Holywell host Holyhead. Brickfield's first game of 2026 is at home to Guilsfield on January 3. The season draws to a close on April 18, 2026, with Airbus, Brickfield and Mold Alex at home to Llandudno, Holywell and Flint Mountain respectively. Gresford go to Guilsfield and Buckley make the long trek to Holyhead. Dan Collins has made a loan switch from Airbus to Gresford Athletic. Last season, Collins made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Wingmakers, helping the side to win three trophies. He will be on loan at Gresford until January. Airbus boss Mark Allen told the club's website: 'A good opportunity for Dan to get some game time at Gresford. 'He is very highly thought of at Airbus and unfortunately mainly to injuries his game time was limited last season. 'Playing at Gresford will be a good learning curve for him and allow him to develop and become more accustomed to the league.' Gresford manager Maurice-Jones said: 'It's brilliant news to secure the loan signing of Dan - an unbelievably talented footballer, who brings exceptional quality to our squad. 'Dan is brilliant in possession, intelligent in finding space and a constant creative threat going forward. He also brings a winning mentality that aligns perfectly with our ambitions for this season. 'Despite his young age, Dan already boasts a wealth of experience and we're confident that he'll make a big impact.' There are three friendlies tonight with Cefn Albion at home to Rhyl 1879. Llay Welfare host Denbigh Town and Hawarden Rangers go to Yr Wyddgrug.

Terrifying moment lorry driver swerves manically across major A-road missing traffic by INCHES while 4x over legal limit

THIS is the terrifying moment a drunk trucker swerves four times across a major A-road, managing to just miss traffic by a few inches. The lorry driver was caught on camera weaving along a busy road - at four times the legal drink drive limit. 5 Iurie Istrati, 56, was spotted by other drivers who rang 999 to raise the alarm at his lunchtime drink-drive session. He was seen at 1pm swerving between lanes and crossing white lines in his HGV. A court heard police responded to a 999 call reporting a HGV swerving between lanes and the edge of the carriageway on the A483 at Gresford, North Wales. Despite attempts by officers to pull the vehicle over, Istrati continued driving - and narrowly avoided crashing into the roadside barrier. Officers overtook Istrati on the A5 near Halton and gradually brought the HGV to a stop. Istrati was taken into custody and provided a breath specimen of 127 micrograms of alcohol, almost four times over the legal limit of 35. Istrati, listed as of no fixed abode but believed to be Polish, was jailed for nine months. He admitted dangerous and drink driving at Mold Magistrates Court. PC Ryan Sheppard said: 'Istrati's dangerous driving clearly could have caused a serious or fatal collision if he was not stopped. "He showed blatant disregard for the safety of members of the public and the law. Shock moment drunk Fiat 500 driver smashes into car and flips over during dangerous overtake on quiet residential street 'I thank the concerned driver who called our control room to alert us to this incident. 'I would like to thank the individual who phoned us with their concerns regarding the behaviour they witnessed – although we will never know, they have potentially saved lives. 'Reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads remains a priority for North Wales Police and we will continue to do all that we can to remove dangerous drivers from the roads. 'If you suspect somebody is driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs, I urge you to report this to us so we can take action and keep our communities safe.' He was also disqualified from driving for three years and four months, after which he would be required to pass an extended driving test to renew his licence. 5 5

Plenty of big encounters in the North Wales Cricket League

Gresford, who lost their unbeaten record with a defeat at the hands of defending Division One champions Northop Seconds last time out, will head to unbeaten Halkyn for their next match-up. For Gresford skipper Josh Knowles, it's all about batsmen profiting when they are out in the middle. He said: 'We need to bat the situations better. Unfortunately, we lost wickets at regular intervals (against Northop) and couldn't build positive partnerships to get to a score that could be defendable.' While that loss sees Gresford in fourth place in the standings, Halkyn are third after winning all three of their opening encounters this season. Knowles, who will welcome Cam Evans and Toby Bellis back into the line-up, added: 'Halkyn are a good side and that showed with their win over Llandudno last weekend. We will be tested.' Leading the way at this early stage of the campaign are Hawarden Park and they play host to Northop Seconds looking to make it four wins out of four. Victories should push Mold and Connah's Quay into the top half of the table, but both sides have tough match-ups. Mold are at home to second-placed Dolgellau, while Quay welcome Llandudno, who were relegated from the top flight last summer. Brymbo Seconds will look to make home comforts count versus Bangor Seconds and Pontblyddyn are away to Mochdre Seconds.

Gresford look to make it three out of three in big clash

Relegated from the Premier Division last summer, Gresford have opened their Division One tilt with back-to-back triumphs. Next up is tomorrow's home clash with last season's champions Northop Seconds. Skipper Josh Knowles said: 'It's been a good start to the season, getting two wins from two. We have managed to get a consistent squad out, which is always a positive.' While promotion would be the main aim, Knowles is quick to stress that it's not the be all and end all this summer. 'Promotion would be great, but we want to help new players come through and get experience,' he added. 'We feel that we have a very good bowling attack that is a balance with both pace and spin.' Looking ahead to tomorrow, Knowles, who welcomes Danny Williams and Tom Crewe back into the line-up, said: 'Northop are the reigning champions, so we are always going to be cautious. We are just looking forward to having a good game!' Hawarden Park and Halkyn have also won both of their matches. Park host Connah's Quay, while Halkyn go to leaders Llandudno. Northop Hall are looking to get their Liverpool Competition season up and running away to Norley Hall tomorrow. Ben Slater's side opened their summer with a 24-run loss to Ainsdale and the skipper said: 'I think if we had wickets in hand, we would have gone on to win. But, unfortunately, some relatively poor shot selection let us down.' Paul Jenkins, James Hurlin and Carwyn Johnson impressed with the ball for Hall and looking ahead to tomorrow, Slater added: 'They're a strong team. They are always up and there or thereabouts. They're a team I think will be up there. 'These are the ones that end up being double-pointers come the end of the season. I think it's key for us. Once we get that first win, I feel we will be okay.' Matty Jones is back in the Northop Hall ranks. Hall Seconds host Bootle Seconds. In the Shropshire League, a first triumph is also the target for Chirk. After a five-wicket loss to Wellington Seconds, Chirk are looking forward to tomorrow's trip to Broseley. Chirk Seconds are at home to Whittington in Division Seven.
