Girl who broke royal protocol with Prince William after Euro final identified
The identity of the youngster who won over countless hearts after inadvertently breaching Royal protocol during the Lionesses trophy ceremony has now been disclosed. The girl positioned herself beside Prince William as the England squad received their medals following their penalty shootout victory over Spain in the Euro 2025 final. She was clearly elated as she welcomed the team on their journey to the podium to claim the trophy. In her excitement, the girl seemed to unintentionally breach Royal etiquette by greeting the players with handshakes before William, who was positioned in front of her. She has subsequently received praise across social media platforms, with numerous viewers moved by her delighted responses. It has now emerged that the girl was present at the final as UEFA's special invitee. She has been named as Greta, a 12 year old from Switzerland. She lives with a genetic variant of epilepsy, receiving her diagnosis as an infant, reports the Express. Greta participated in the trophy ceremony as an invitee of the UEFA Foundation For Children, an organisation that routinely welcomes young individuals with disabilities or additional needs to participate in formal proceedings. A statement from the governing body declared: "Greta is a cheerful, open-minded, and determined young girl with a great passion for sport. "Her enthusiasm, perseverance, and love of sport made her a fitting and inspiring choice to participate in the medal ceremony alongside UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin." Greta was seen having a conversation with William throughout the ceremony, with the future monarch placing his hand on her shoulder whilst they beamed and spoke together. The young girl stole the show with her enthusiastic approach to greeting the players (Image: GETTY) Viewers tuning into the trophy presentation were thrilled by Greta's excitement, with @thereusableuser posting on X (formerly Twitter): "Sorry but this girl pulling everyone's hand out of William's is killing me." @caitsrightboot commented: "She was obviously very happy and excited. Who wouldn't be excited to shake hands with the whole Spain and England team?". @AHowroyd remarked: "She looked so so happy to be there, it was brilliant to see her grabbing their hands," whilst @MelDorado9 posted: "She was the real royalty. Was super cute the big hug she got from Chloe Kelly." Prince William was also accompanied by his daughter, Princess Charlotte, to witness England claim the Euros for the second consecutive time. Following the trophy ceremony, she received a winner's medal to take home and was photographed gripping it with tremendous excitement. Charlotte subsequently penned her inaugural official statement on the Kensington Royal account, praising the Lionesses on their landmark triumph. The statement declared: "What a game! Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe and we couldn't be prouder of the whole team. Enjoy this moment England. W & Charlotte."

'Mystery' girl who charmed the nation when she stood alongside Prince William on Euros podium speaks out after her identity is revealed
The young girl who stood alongside Prince William on the Euros podium following the Lionesses's Euros victory has spoken out about her experience for the first time. Greta, from Switzerland, charmed the nation after joining the Prince of Wales on the medal podium in Basel on Sunday following England's nail-biting defeat of Spain on penalties. The 12-year-old, wearing a white UEFA shirt, had looked overjoyed to meet the players - shaking their hands even before the Prince himself, who stood before her in line. Greta, who has Dravet Syndrome, a form of epilepsy, was invited by the UEFA Foundation to walk alongside UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and hand out medals to the winning team. Speaking out about the experience for the first time, Greta said: 'I was nervous at first, but then I saw the players smiling at me. It felt like I was part of their team.' Greta, born in Portugal and raised in Switzerland, was diagnosed with the genetically caused form of epilepsy when she was just six months old. She was described by the UEFA Foundation as 'very enthusiastic' about sports, especially football and basketball and is also a member of the PluSport website, which organises opportunities in sport for disabled people throughout Switzerland. Delighted onlookers called her the 'real star of the show', having been impressed by her eagerness to greet the players, even as she appeared to intercept the Prince of Wales's handshakes. One person wrote on TikTok: 'Bye, who was this kid and why was she trying to push Prince William's hand away, I'm crying!', while a third added: 'I was genuinely confused.' One more joked: 'I was so busy watching her, I hadn't even noticed it was Prince William' and another said: 'She was fabulous, totally the most thrilled person ever to be there!' Greta and William were seen sharing a sweet moment together, as they chatted during the trophy ceremony, with the prince placing a hand on her shoulder. One person wrote on social media: 'I think this girl is a breath of fresh air! The absolute joy on her face, and I'm sure William would have loved having her by his side.' Since its official launch as an independent charity in 2015, the UEFA foundation has invested in football and other sports to provide opportunities for vulnerable children. As part of its work in helping 4.9 million children, the Foundation has focused on local initiatives, meaning the children can walk onto the pitch hand-in-hand with the players, or join in the medal ceremony. 'Greta is a cheerful, open-minded, and determined young girl with a great passion for sport,' UEFA said in a statement. 'Her enthusiasm, perseverance, and love of sport made her a fitting and inspiring choice to participate in the medal ceremony alongside UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin.' In his role as patron of the Football Association (FA), William, 43, had jetted to the stadium to watch the final - and was even accompanied by his daughter Princess Charlotte, 10. The match on Sunday saw the Lionesses win their second consecutive Euros title after defeating Spain on penalties 3-1. Yesterday, they landed back in the UK and were honoured with a special reception at No10 Downing Street, hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner. It saw the whole street adorned in full patriotic splendour, complete with fluttering St George's flags and celebratory bunting. Looking radiant and relaxed, captain Leah Williamson led her squad through the gates of Downing Street, flanked by manager Sarina Wiegman, with the whole team having been glammed up for the occasion. Inside, Ms Rayner gave a heartfelt speech as the players were given canapes and drinks in the garden. She told the team: 'You've made us all so so proud. Role models like you send such a powerful message, the Lionesses are a shining example of talent and excitement for women's football. Some of the team also took part in a surprise video call from Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who was unable to attend in person due to talks with US President Donald Trump in Scotland. He said: 'Fantastic to see you all and welcome to Downing Street. I just wanted to say a huge huge congratulations to you and to the whole team. 'It was an absolutely amazing victory and you must've felt the eyes and ears of the whole country on you last night.' He added: 'You made history so many times over last night.' Wiegman thanked him for calling and for supporting the team throughout the tournament. The stars then descended on Soho for a night out, continuing a whirlwind 48 hours of celebrations. It was Chloe Kelly again who scored the decisive goal after coolly slotting the crucial penalty into the back of the net, following two huge saves from goalkeeper Hannah Hampton. The win came after an initial scare when Beth Mead slipped on the opening kick. Things had been looking touch and go when Mariona Caldentey put Spain 1-0 up at the end of the first half, before Arsenal striker Alessia Russo managed to pull the game back to equalise the score in the 57th minute. Princess Charlotte meanwhile was barely able to watch at some points and was seen with her hands covering her face as she conveyed her shock and excitement in what made for a very animated display. And her enthusiasm was particularly reminiscent of her mother Kate, who was seen with an almost identical expression on her face as she attended Wimbledon tennis tournament in 2019. Like her daughter, the Princess of Wales was also so invested in the match in front of her that she could barely watch - this time watching Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the men's single final. Eagle eyed royal fans were quick to make comparisons, with one writing: 'She's her mother's daughter!' A second added: 'Even if Princess Charlotte is her dad's mini-me, I can see Princess Catherine too.' Charlotte was wearing a chiffon polka dot dress from Guess - which she also wore to attend Wimbledon last year. The Lionesses touched down in England less than 24 hours after their Euro 2025 triumph The royal was also given a winners medal to keep after the presentation ceremony - which she was seen holding on to reverently. After the final whistle, Charlotte has signed off her first official message from the Waleses, which was posted on social media, congratulating the Lionesses on their win. The post on the Prince and Princess' of Wales X account read: 'What a game! 'Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe and we couldn't be prouder of the whole team. 'Enjoy this moment England. W & Charlotte.' The atmosphere in William and Charlotte's spot in the stands was electric upon the final blow of the whistle. In one picture, William and FA chair Debbie Hewitt were seen exchanging a double high-five over Charlotte standing between them, who looked on smiling. The princess even had her mouth open in shock at one point in the game, astonished by the exciting events on the pitch. The game was far from plain sailing, as the young royal's reactions showed - wincing along with her father at a particularly tricky moment. The princess seemed confident speaking to those around her, at one point leaning forward to chat to Princesses Leonor and Sofia, the daughters of Spain's Queen Letizia and King Felipe, who smiled back at her. Other adorable pictures of William and Charlotte at the match showed their close father-daughter relationship. They put their heads together to discuss the action in front of them at several points, with Charlotte seemingly just as engaged as her football fan father. As the presentation ceremony took place, the Prince of Wales was among those to congratulate star striker Michelle Agyemang on being named young player of the tournament. William exchanged words with Agyemang, appearing to say: 'Well played, fantastic, well done.' Agyemang, 19, who had one England cap before the tournament, scored crucial equalisers in the Lionesses' quarter-final and semi-final comebacks. The Prince was given two winners medals to keep after the presentation - and starstruck Charlotte could not wait to get a proper look at them. Before the match, the Prince of Wales, who is patron of the Football Association (FA), applauded the national anthem as he stood next to Charlotte in the stadium. He was also joined by Sir Keir Starmer and his wife Victoria. An image of Charlotte and William was also posted on the Prince and Princess of Wales's X account shortly before kick-off, captioned: 'Let's go, Lionesses.' King Charles, along with his son, offered the team his most 'heartfelt congratulations' in the wake of their win. His post on X read: 'This brings you, your manager and all your support team my most heartfelt congratulations on winning the EUROS 2025. 'For more years than I care to remember, England fans have sung that famous chant "football's coming home". 'As you return home with the trophy you won at Wembley three years ago, it is a source of great pride that, through sporting skill and awesome teamwork, the Lionesses have made those words ring true. 'For this, you have my whole family's warmest appreciation and admiration. The young royal shouted along (pictured) with the swathes of England fans celebrating the moment up and down the country 'More than that, though, you have shown through your example over past weeks that there are no setbacks so tough that defeat cannot be transformed into victory, even as the final whistle looms. 'Well done, Lionesses. The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can!' In a show of support ahead of the final, the Band of the Grenadier Guards performed Three Lions on the Buckingham Palace forecourt. The royal family's official X account also posted: 'Let's go girls! Wishing the very best of luck to the @Lionesses in the Women's Euro Final this evening.' Downing Street also shared in the football fever as it decked outs its railing with bunting and displayed the flag of St George in its windows. Number 10 said, ahead of the match: 'Good luck today, Lionesses. Let's bring it home.' Sir Keir was then the first to congratulate England on their win after the game, posting on X: 'Champions! Congratulations Lionesses - what a team. What a game. What drama. 'You dug deep when it mattered most and you've made the nation proud. History makers.' Speaking after the match Chloe Kelly gushed that she was 'so proud of this team, so grateful to wear this badge' and 'so proud to be English'.

Others in the room were sceptical at first asking: "is it actually that much easier?" Greta says it's "so much easier". The method sees her place a small piece of tape on her eyelid, pulling up her natural lashes so she can see her lash line more clearly. Cook This: 3 recipes from Every Salad Ever, including grilled chicken souvlaki with a double-duty marinade
Our cookbook of the week is Every Salad Ever by award-winning author Greta Podleski of Looneyspoons fame. Jump to the recipes: Grilled Chicken Souvlaki Salad , Berry Delicious Summer Salad and Italian Chopped Salad . Salads have come a long way since Greta Podleski borrowed her mom's Ford Granada on high school lunch breaks and hit the Wendy's all-you-can-eat salad bar with friends in St. Thomas, Ont. As much as she appreciated the chopped romaine, unlimited toppings and bottled dressings, those 1980s salad days are in the rearview mirror. 'Welcome to the new era of salads — you're going to love it here,' the Sarnia, Ont.-based author writes in her sixth self-published cookbook and second solo effort, Every Salad Ever (One Spoon Media Inc., 2025). Discover the best of B.C.'s recipes, restaurants and wine. By signing up you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc. A welcome email is on its way. If you don't see it, please check your junk folder. The next issue of West Coast Table will soon be in your inbox. Please try again Interested in more newsletters? Browse here. Signalling a significant shift in what salads can be, grains, greens, pasta, beans, classics, 'in-betweens' and embellishments, including toppers and protein marinades, fill the pages. There's no shortage of homemade dressings, but you won't find Greta's teenage salad bar staple. 'You have apple cider vinaigrette. You have white balsamic. You have dark balsamic. You have sesame-ginger. You have peanut. You have Italian. You have ranch. I have no Catalina, though,' says Greta, laughing. 'I haven't figured out how to duplicate Catalina, but I'm not sure I'd want to. However, I would still probably like the Wendy's salad bar with Catalina. I bet I would still love it. It would bring me back to my high school days. It's just that I'm trying to level up my salads a little bit in 2025.' Greta is a longtime salad lover who believes most people are the same. They just want more ideas and inspiration. 'How many times have you been told by a friend, 'Oh, just bring a salad.' And then everybody goes into Panicsville, 'What do you mean, just bring a salad?! What kind of salad? Leafy salad, pasta salad, green salad, bean salad. What am I supposed to bring?'' With more than 100 recipes, Greta set out to prove that 'for every season and every reason, there's a salad for you.' In contrast to the simple and basic salads of her youth, today, the options are limitless. In Every Salad Ever, she put her imagination to work, 'keeping the ingredients accessible and the recipes doable, and that's the key. I would never want to write a cookbook that people open and say, 'Oh, I wish someone would make that for me.' I don't want that aspirational type of cookbook that sits on the coffee table that people love looking at, but they're never cooking from.' Greta attributes her cookbooks' success to their attainability. In Every Salad Ever, each recipe has a full-page photo and 'Sound Bite,' a QR code linking to one- to two-minute audio clips of Greta sharing additional details, 'like mini podcasts.' When readers contact her with questions about recipes, she's the one who answers them. After three decades of writing cookbooks, readers feel like they know her. 'I always say I'm the furthest thing from a food snob. I like everything, and I think people pick that up when they deal with me, when they meet me, when they read my books.' Starting with Looneyspoons , the 1996 cookbook Greta wrote with her sister, Janet Podleski, all her books have been No. 1 national bestsellers — an accomplishment she doesn't take for granted. Initially, the sisters self-published out of necessity, bolstered by the dream that Looneyspoons would be a hit. 'We felt like we didn't have anything to lose back then. We dropped everything, and we were so broke. At one point, I think I had $1.12 in my bank account. And that's not a joke.' With each title, the sisters built connections with booksellers and a reputation for putting out bestsellers. When Greta went solo with Yum and Yummer in 2017, she had no doubt she would self-publish it — she just didn't know how she would pull it off without staff. 'But you know, you do what you have to do, and sometimes you have to be Superwoman when you're running your own business.' Three decades after her first experience with self-publishing, Greta is 'thrilled' that people still love cookbooks. 'I was a little bit worried with book No. 6. There's so much free online and Instagram and everything, so many influencers, and are people going to want a hardcover book in 2025? And I think the answer is a resounding yes for me.' Playing the dual role of author and publisher, Greta signed an exclusive deal with Indigo for Every Salad Ever. She set her first print run aside for the retailer, anticipating it would last well into the fall, maybe even until Christmas. In just seven weeks, her warehouse was empty. Though she can't disclose quantities, Greta says they're 'huge by any standard.' When we spoke, she was on her way to oversee an 'emergency' print run at Transcontinental Printing in Beauceville, Que. 'It's important to me to produce an excellent book, and so somehow I feel it's going to be better if I'm there supervising and eating poutine.' In June, Indigo agreed to support the sale of the book at independent booksellers and extended its exclusive to Dec. 31. 'Indigo refers to my sales as 'wild.' That's the word they keep using. And I'm like, 'I'm okay with wild.' But I was nervous about the partnership because I'd never done it. Now it's truly one of the best decisions I've ever made,' says Greta. 'I'm a Canadian publisher. I print in Canada, and I'm selling through a Canadian retailer. So, it truly was a made-in-Canada story that people really embraced because they have been so supportive of the book.' With Double-Duty, Doubly Delicious Marinade Makes: 6 servings Marinade/dressing: 1/2 cup plain 0 per cent Greek yogurt 1/4 cup olive oil 3 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice 2 tbsp red wine vinegar 1 tbsp liquid honey 1 tbsp minced fresh dill 2 tsp Dijon mustard 2 tsp minced garlic 2 tsp dried oregano 1 tsp dried basil 1 tsp grated lemon zest 1/2 tsp sweet paprika 1/2 tsp each sea salt and freshly ground black pepper 4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 2 lbs/907 g) Salad: 2 medium heads romaine lettuce, chopped 2 cups diced English cucumbers 2 cups halved or quartered cherry tomatoes 1 large red onion, thinly sliced 1 cup cubed light or regular feta cheese (4 oz/113 g) 3/4 cup pitted Kalamata olives In a small bowl, whisk together all marinade ingredients until well blended. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Cut chicken into 1 1/2-inch chunks and place in a large, resealable freezer bag. Add half the marinade. Seal bag and turn several times to coat chicken with marinade. Refrigerate at least 8 hours or overnight for the best flavour. Refrigerate remaining marinade to use as the salad dressing. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Prep all salad ingredients and place them in a large serving bowl so they're ready to go. Thread chicken onto skewers (discard the used marinade). Gah! I hate this part. Kinda messy. Lightly oil grill racks. Place skewers onto racks and grill for 10 to 12 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. Remove from grill, slide cooked chicken off skewers and add them to the salad. Pour reserved dressing over salad and mix well using tongs. Serve immediately. Switch it up: Trade the romaine lettuce for any type of salad greens you love. Jazz it up: Thickly slice the red onion and grill the rings with the chicken skewers. Delish! With Honey-Dijon Vinaigrette Makes: 6 side-dish servings Salad: 1 pkg (5 oz/142 g) mixed greens (see note) 1 1/2 cups sliced fresh strawberries 1 cup fresh blueberries 1/2 cup walnut pieces 1/2 cup crumbled light or regular feta cheese (2 oz/57g) 1/3 cup very thinly sliced red onions Dressing: 1/4 cup olive oil 2 tbsp white balsamic vinegar 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice 2 tbsp liquid honey 1 tbsp Dijon mustard 1/8 tsp each sea salt and freshly ground black pepper Place all salad ingredients in a large bowl and set aside. In a small bowl or measuring cup, whisk together all dressing ingredients until well blended. Pour dressing over salad, using as much or as little dressing as you like. It's up to you! Toss salad with tongs until all ingredients are well coated with dressing. Serve immediately. (Greens go soggy quickly, so it's best to dress this salad right before serving.) Note: This basically amounts to a few giant handfuls of greens. It's hard to measure greens in cups, so just fill up a really big salad bowl with your favourite leafy greens. Swap it: For a vegan salad, replace the feta with diced avocados and the honey with pure maple syrup. Top it: Tastes great with maple-roasted pecans! With a Bright and Bold Red Wine Vinaigrette Makes: about 12 cups salad Dressing: 1/3 cup olive oil 1/4 cup red wine vinegar 2 tbsp light mayonnaise 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 tbsp pure maple syrup or liquid honey 1 tbsp minced shallots 2 tsp Dijon mustard 1 tsp minced garlic 1 tsp dried oregano 1/2 tsp sea salt 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper Salad: 6 cups chopped iceberg or romaine lettuce 4 oz (113 g) diced salami 4 oz (113 g) diced Provolone or aged white cheddar cheese 1 1/2 cups quartered grape or cherry tomatoes 1 1/2 cups diced English cucumbers 1 cup diced yellow bell peppers 1 cup no-salt-added canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed 1/2 cup pitted Kalamata olives 1/2 cup chopped radicchio 1/3 cup thinly sliced red onions 1/3 cup freshly grated or shaved Parmesan cheese Whisk together all dressing ingredients in a small bowl or shake them up in a mason jar. If you own a single-serve blender, whirl the ingredients to make the dressing extra silky. Refrigerate dressing until ready to use. Combine all salad ingredients except Parmesan in a very large serving bowl. Add dressing and mix well. Add the Parmesan just before serving, either mixed into the salad or sprinkled over individual servings. Swap it: I personally LOVE aged white cheddar in this recipe, but mini bocconcini would also work well. Top it: If you're a fan of nippy pepperoncini peppers, chop two or three and sprinkle them over the salad before serving. Basketball halftime entertainer Red Panda in images
Red Panda is one of the most delightful and charming forms of entertainment during breaks in basketball games and other events. Unfortunately, there was a mishap the other night at a WNBA game. Red Panda's unicycle had been damaged in transport and when the entertainer went up on it, she lost her balance and fell to the court. The result was a fractured of the wrist. Her team sent out a message: 'Thank you very much to all NBA, WNBA, Universities, media individuals and her ever supporting fans for your kindness and concern. Last night at Lynx/Fever she took a fall at the very beginning of the show, due to left paddle of her unicycle was damaged during transit, her left wrist was severely fractured at the same spot for the 2nd time. She was at the hospital for 11 hours last night. Greta and Sheridan, from Minnesota Lynx, stayed with her at the hospital the entire night for her procedure. She is very grateful. She is on her way home now and the Doctors in Minneapolis have recommended that as soon as she gets home, she meet with an orthopedic surgeon for the 2nd part of repair."
