Grey's Anatomy star fights tears in emotional update after ALS diagnosis

Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria star Eric Dance was emotional as he gave a candid update on his health following his devastating ALS diagnosis earlier in the year Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane has tearfully opened up about his struggles following his ALS diagnosis. The actor, 52, revealed his rare health issue in April and has now labelled it "crushing". The star, also known for his role on Euphoria, appeared on stateside television to provide the emotional update. Speaking to the team on Good Morning America, Eric confessed: "I wake up every day and I'm immediately reminded that this is happening. ‌ As journalist Diane Sawyer candidly told him: "It's not a dream,' he repeated it back. "I don't think this is the end of my story," he went on. ‌ Elsewhere in the interview, a defiant Eric insisted: "I don't feel like this is the end of me." The full interview is set to air on Monday, but in another teaser Eric was seen to be looking emotional as Diane questioned his first thoughts on his diagnosis. ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It can also be referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, which is a rare motor neurone disease (MND). There is no cure with treatment only available to help ease the pain, which can be severe particularly on and around the nerves and joints. The condition usually affects those over 50 but can occur at any age and sadly there's no cure. In the UK, it affects 5,000 adults at any one time, according to the MND Association. Eric previously told PEOPLE: "I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. ‌ 'I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week.I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.' Eric revealed his diagnosis just weeks after calling off his divorce from Rebecca Gayheart. They had initially filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences for their reason. However, they appeared to have a change of heart as Rebecca filed documents to have the petition dismissed in March. The duo have two children together, daughters Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13. The couple tied the knot back in 2004 in Las Vegas after a whirlwind romance of 10 months. As well as his role as Mark 'McSteamy' Sloan in Greys Anatomy, Eric has also starred The Last Ship, the movie Burlesque, Kabul and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. According to IMDb, he will next appear on screen in TV series Countdown and Family Secrets, with the latter being in post-production.

'Grey's Anatomy' star Eric Dane speaks out for first time since revealing ALS diagnosis

Eric Dane has spoken out for the first time since revealing his ALS diagnosis. During a sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America," Dane said every day is a constant reminder of his diagnosis. "I wake up every day, and I'm immediately reminded that this is happening," Dane told Sawyer in a teaser clip of the upcoming interview that was posted on Facebook. Sawyer replied, "It's not a dream." Dane agreed, saying that his reality is not a dream. Although the "Greys' Anatomy" alum's life has changed since his diagnosis, he tried to stay optimistic, stating, "I don't think this is the end of my story. I don't feel like this is the end of me." At the end of the clip, Sawyer asks Dane who his first call was, which causes the actor to tear up. Dane announced his ALS diagnosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in April. "I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter," the 52-year-old "Euphoria" actor told People magazine. "I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of 'Euphoria' next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time." ALS is a "nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord," according to the Mayo Clinic. It causes loss of muscle control as well as breathing and eating problems and can cause dementia. Patients typically live for three years after being diagnosed with the disease, but some can live for decades, according to the ALS Association. Others who have battled ALS include Stephen Hawking, Yankees player Lou Gehrig, who died in 1941, "SpongeBob SquarePants" creator Stephen Hillenburg, and Jon Stone, the creator of "Sesame Street." Dane is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart and share two children, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13. Dane's full interview with Sawyer is set to air on "Good Morning America" on Monday, June 16, at 7 a.m. ET.

Grey's Anatomy's Lucas and Simone Are Done: Is Anybody Sorry?

No one is more surprised than I am to find myself saying — well, typing — that I am glad Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy finally broke up Lucas and Simone. (Read the full recap.) Am I alone in feeling that way? Maybe I should have spotted the warning signs ages ago. Even back in Season 19, when Lucas suggested that Simone's fiancé didn't see all of her, but 'I see you, and I love every single thing I see,' the red flags were there. I was so busy fanning myself — Niko Terho and Alexis Floyd can have great chemistry (watch below) — and so disliked Trey that it didn't occur to me what a d–k move Lucas was making by attempting to get Simone to call off the wedding. She had made up her mind to marry her ex, and there Lucas was, mansplaining to her why he was a better choice. An overture can be both romantic and wrong at the same time. Once they were together, Lucas seemed to make it his business to land Simone in enough hot water to brew a river of coffee. (Sam Sutton, anyone?) Then, upon learning that she'd had second thoughts about inviting him to move back into the residents' house — understandable after her near-Mrs. with Trey — Derek's nephew turned his shoulder so cold, it should've been treated for frostbite. Finally, just before Jo and Link's wedding, Lucas called time of death on his and Simone's relationship, and I… cheered. He didn't see anything wrong with being optimistic about the future, even if it was unrealistic. In response, she'd made the 'unforgivable' mistake of pointing out that, unlike a member of the wealthy and celebrated Shepherd family — which, to be clear, was implied but not stated — not everybody got bailed out when they rolled the dice and it didn't pay off. So, yeah, I'm not sad that a scalpel was stuck in this romance. I'm way more into Winston and Jules' budding flirtation and, if it ever actually happens, Amelia and Monica. Not for nothing, either, but Simone's interaction with the mystery man who may become a series regular (Grown-ish alum Trevor Jackson) was off-the-charts hot. Your thoughts?
