Roads to close for Grimsby 10K

Grimsby teacher Cheyne Phillips banned for sexual contact with ex-pupils
A teacher has been banned from the profession for life after a panel ruled on the "balance of probabilities" that he had sex with one former pupil and sent inappropriate messages to Phillips, 34, was a PE teacher at Healing Academy, a secondary school near Grimsby, at the time.A professional conduct panel of the Teaching Regulation Agency was told he denied the allegations and "a large amount of the factual assertions surrounding them".However, during a public hearing held between 6 and 9 May, the panel found Mr Phillips had exploited his position of trust by pursuing "highly inappropriate relationships and sexual misconduct with children". Mr Phillips had "spoken to and repeatedly and persistently corresponded via e-mail, Instagram and Snapchat" with the former pupils "in ways that were sexual and inappropriate", the panel one of the cases, this "ultimately led" to "repeated and serious sexual misconduct".Mr Phillips, who did not attend the hearing, worked at the academy from July 2016 to July a statement, the trust that runs the school said the allegations were "dealt with swiftly" and it had "complied fully" with an investigation. Hawks to deter birds ahead of Grimsby car park demolition
Hawks are being used to discourage seagulls and pigeons from nesting in a multi-storey car park which is set to be demolished. Abbey Walk car park, in Grimsby, has been closed since May 2024 because of structural issues caused by water penetrating some of the have been approved to demolish the car park, which was built in 1969. However, should any habitable nests be found, the plans would have to be postponed until the chicks were able to leave the East Lincolnshire Council said trained hawks Mavric and Chief were being deployed to fly at low levels throughout the car park twice a week to provide a deterrent against birds wanting to nest there. The hawks were also being employed around vacant units on Osborne Street, which are also due to be demolished, the council added.A town centre improvement plan for the area includes a new transport hub and a 120-space surface car park. A spokesperson said the hawks were well trained, would not attack other birds and were purely used as a pillars of the Abbey Walk car park feature modernist reliefs by artist and sculptor Harold Gosney, which a conservation team has scanned using 3D technology so they can be reprinted in the future. It followed a campaign to preserve the artworks by the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District Civic council said the demolition work would start in the coming months. A super-fit PE teacher who had sex with a pupil and sent flirtatious texts and selfies to another has been banned from the classroom for life. Married Cheyne Phillips, 34, was Deputy Head of PE at Healing Science Academy, Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, when he started the inappropriate relationships, a Teaching Regulation Agency disciplinary panel was told. The fitness fanatic, who competed in combat sports and ran marathons worked at the school between 6 July 2016 to 22 July 2022. In that period Phillips raised more than £6,000 for a seriously ill child by running a Yorkshire marathon. During that time he had regular sexual encounters with Pupil B, who also sent him 'nudes' and he flirted with Pupil A on Instagram asking 'how's the head game?' The panel heard that on 6 October 2021 Pupil A's mother made a complaint to the school after she saw messages from Phillips which she considered were sexual in nature. On 15 November 2021, Pupil B's mother reported that she had become aware that Pupil B, who had recently left the school, had been engaging in sexual activity with Phillips since July 2021. She reported that Pupil B had also received a number of messages from Mr Phillips that were sexual in nature. Humberside Police, the school and the Local Authority Designated Officer ('LADO') proceeded to investigate the allegations. The panel found Phillips: Followed Pupil A on Instagram Sent one or more photographs of himself to Pupil A Received photos and videos of Pupil A Made one or more comments of a sexual nature/innuendo and/or inappropriate nature towards Pupil A Told Pupil A,'ur a secret' The panel found Phillips engaged in an inappropriate relationship with Pupil A. Regarding Pupil B, the panel found Phillips: Communicated with her via email and/or Instagram and/or Snapchat; Winked at Pupil B on one or more occasions; Received one or more explicit photographs of Pupil B Stated to Pupil B 'your bum in that suit' Asked Pupil B 'am I going to make the first move, or are you?' Pupil B submitted that on 3 July 2021, Mr Phillips added her on Instagram and Pupil B followed him back. Pupil B indicated that afterwards they continued messaging on Instagram and their messages moved to Snapchat from July. Pupil B stated that when they had connected on Instagram Phillips started to message her and repeatedly tried to arrange to meet up. Phillips had flirtatiously complemented her on her leggings whilst she was walking a dog and later kissed her in a car park after he'd been meeting fellow teachers. On a later date Phillips parked near her house and she went to meet him, and they drove to the car park. The first thing he said to her was 'are you gonna make the first move or am I'. Pupil B stated that she did not know what to do and would not have initiated anything as she was young and naïve. Mr Phillips was persistently trying to meet up and Pupil B confirmed that they met up, in total, on five or so occasions. Pupil B stated that they would talk on Snapchat but also exchanged some explicit images. Pupil B explained that Phillips would request explicit images. Pupil B recalled specifically that she sent to him two pictures of herself in the shower naked and a video of her in the shower naked and touching herself intimately. She recalled she also sent him two images where, respectively, the bottom of her breasts and her thong were shown. She also recalls that Mr Phillips sent her a couple of images of him topless and wearing boxer shorts. Pupil B stated that shortly after this on another day Phillips had arranged to meet her and had collected her in his car. He had driven to the car park and he started kissing her and put his hand on her leg and started to rub it. She stated that he then moved his hand up and started to touch her private parts over her leggings and said to her 'next time you need to wear something looser. Pupil B stated that he then said to her 's**k me off', so she did, and after this he dropped her back home. Pupil B stated that she believed that she met up with Phillips five times in total, and stated that she had sex with him on two of those occasions, and the first three times they met up they did 'sexual things' but didn't have sex. She stated that they kissed, she performed a sex act on him, and he digitally penetrated her. The panel was satisfied that Phillips was guilty of unacceptable professional conduct and prohibited from teaching indefinitely.

Missing Brit backpacker's heartwarming first words revealed after she was found homeless in Peru by heroic uni friend
THE first words of the missing British backpacker who was found homeless in Peru have been revealed by a university pal who flew out to track her down. Hannah Almond, 32, had vanished in Cusco, Peru, after being robbed and was left sleeping rough under a bridge. 8 8 8 The tourist from Grimsby is said to have wrapped her arms around pal Matti and told him "I love you" after local Piero Villanueva found her slumped on a pavement. Piero - a Good Samaritan - had managed to track Hannah down after briefly meeting her in Lima. Matti - who reportedly met Hannah when they studied together at Leeds Beckett University - had flown out on an urgent mission to rescue her. He said: "I came straight off the flight, and before I got to my accommodation I got the taxi to drop me off at the main square where she was with her friend. "She wrapped her arms around me and said 'I love you'. "She was wearing superman pyjamas given to her by a friend as she has nothing to her name. "Minimal clothing, no money, and no personal items like a phone or passport." Matti also helped Hannah reunite with some of the pals she had originally gone travelling with. Speaking of Hannah's fragile state, he told MailOnline:"I think she was overwhelmed when I saw her if I'm honest. Fisherman survives 3 MONTHS lost at sea by eating turtles, birds & cockroaches after being blown off course by storm "After some time she has expressed love and gratitude for me being here. We sat and had a bottle of water and talked about home. "She didn't want to eat anything at the time. We have listened to some music that reminded us of friends and times back in Leeds." According to Matti, Hannah has made calls back to home in Grimsby, with the pal ensuring she gets the help she needs and paying for her expenses while they remain in Peru. Local hero Piero confirmed he found Hannah yesterday before posting a smiling selfie of them together. In an interview with a local TV station, he described how Hannah recognised him and broke down in tears before agreeing to leave with him. He said: "I have just found her. She is safe and well. I'd like to thank the authorities and the people who contacted me so I could help her. "Hannah recognised me and approached me crying and I asked her to leave with me. Thanks God she's safe." Piero had been liaising with the British Consul and Hannah's friends in a WhatsApp group, coordinating efforts to track her down. 8 8 8 He searched late into the night on Saturday after she was last seen near Cusco's San Pedro market. He said: 'We searched from 7pm until 3am, and again on Sunday.' Footage from local media shows the pair together walking through Cusco together shortly after their reunion. A GoFundMe page set up to help bring Hannah home confirmed she had been found thanks to the massive online effort. A friend wrote: "Due to the help of everyone sharing the story, Hannah has thankfully been found and one of her friends is on the way to Cusco to persuade her to accept support and come home. "We know she has been refusing help due to the complexity of her mental health, so it is most likely that she will need to be placed into psychiatric care before getting a flight back. "This is an ongoing process but we are doing all we can to bring her back safely." Another pal Sophie Wallace revealed the fashion graduate had travelled to Peru in March "hoping for an adventure" but ended up in a "terrifying and heartbreaking situation". She said: "She was robbed and assaulted, losing her passport, phone, and all of her money. "Since then Hannah's mental health, something she has long struggled with, has severely declined. "She is now in the midst of a mental health crisis, living under a bridge with a homeless man she befriended — the only person she currently trusts." Attempts to get her help through the embassy or police had failed, with Sophie adding: "She is extremely vulnerable, isolated, and not safe living on the streets of Peru." 8 8 Fears for her safety deepened after she had her belongings burned and was evicted from her makeshift shelter under the Belén Bridge. Mark Atkinson, the British Consul in Peru, said Hannah had arrived in Cusco in March and had not intended to overstay her visa. He revealed her immigration status was now "in limbo". He said that before she vanished, the embassy had offered support — including hotel stays and food — but she kept returning to sleep under the same bridge. Local media reports say she is now 'being cared for and accompanied' and that repatriation procedures are underway. Piero had spoken just hours before finding her about why he felt compelled to act. "I met Hannah in Lima where I come from," he said. "I decided to travel to Cusco at the request of her friends and family after seeing her situation online — she was sleeping under a bridge." He added: 'She didn't have money or documents after being robbed. "She was a victim of the insecurity in Cusco."
