Robert Kraft reveals why Patriots left Gronk dent in Super Bowl trophy

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was asked straight up if he was ever mad at legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski for denting one of the team's six Super Bowl trophies. When appearing at Fenway Park, Gronkowski and former Patriots receiver Julian Edelman were playing around with one of the trophies. Edelman pitched a baseball, and Gronkowski picked up a trophy and used it as a bat to hit the ball, leaving a permanent dent in the trophy. Kraft could have had the trophy fixed, but he decided to leave the dent as a way of keeping Gronkowski's memory alive. "We're at Fenway Park throwing out the first pitch. I invited the team, and we go out with six trophies," Kraft said on the Dudes on Dudes podcast. "Right before, underneath the Green Monster, these guys are fooling around. Julian's throwing fast balls. Our boy Gronk picks up one of the trophies and hits it, and there's a permanent ball mark. If it was only one or two, I would have fixed it. But I thought we're going to have Gronk's memory for the history of the Patriots. I said we're leaving it." The dent is the perfect homage to the greatest tight end in NFL history and one of the NFL's all-time great personalities. That sixth Super Bowl trophy will always come with the story of Gronkowski using it as a bat to hit an Edelman fast ball. It's a fun and fitting end to one of the greatest dynasties in sports history. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

Rob Gronkowski tells Travis Kelce how to dethrone him as GOAT: "You gotta party your face into the dirt..."

Gronkowski challenges Travis Kelce with checklist to surpass him as the GOAT TE (Getty Images/ The NFL offseason might be quiet on the field, but that hasn't stopped its biggest stars from igniting lively conversations off of it. Patrick Mahomes recently made headlines during a candid conversation with Kay Adams, but it's Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola who have stolen the spotlight with their hilarious and now-viral appearance on 'Hot Ones Versus. ' As fans debate the tight end GOAT, Gronkowski didn't shy away from throwing some spicy — quite literally — takes into the fire. Travis Kelce still not GOAT? Gronk lays out his rules to earn that crown and overtake him In a wing-fueled showdown with Amendola, Gronkowski playfully addressed what Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce needs to do to surpass him as the greatest tight end in NFL history. And true to form, Gronk's list was as entertaining as it was outrageous. 'You gotta throw some motherf------ defenders out the club,' Gronkowski said without blinking. 'Two, you need another Super Bowl ring. There you go. Thank you Danny. Danny said that one. We're helping each other out because we're teammates like that. And three... you gotta party your face into the dirt with your fans. Sorry Trav, I wasn't eating another wing. I love you brother.' Rob Gronkowski vs. Danny Amendola | Hot Ones Versus The lighthearted exchange captured the friendly bond between Gronkowski and Kelce — two stars who've helped redefine the tight end position. Their connection isn't surprising considering their joint efforts with 'Tight End University,' a collaborative initiative where top tight ends mentor and uplift one another. While Gronk's remarks were delivered with a side of hot sauce and humor, they touch on a deeper, ongoing debate in NFL circles. Gronkowski's résumé includes four Super Bowl rings — three with Tom Brady and the Patriots, and one with the Buccaneers — and a legacy built on dominance. With 92 touchdowns and nearly 9,300 receiving yards, his impact is undeniable. He also holds the second-most Super Bowl touchdown receptions in league history, trailing only Jerry Rice. Kelce, meanwhile, is quietly crafting a different kind of legacy — one built on consistency and adaptability. With 1,004 receptions, over 12,000 receiving yards, and 77 touchdowns through 11 seasons, he's shown no signs of slowing down. His playoff production, where he ranks just behind Rice in receiving categories, further fuels the argument. What separates the two is not ability, but how they reached their greatness. Gronk's dominance was almost gladiatorial — raw, physical, and explosive. Kelce's brilliance lies in his finesse, route-running, and ability to be anywhere on the field at once. As Kelce enters the 2025 season, the only box left to check may be that elusive fourth Super Bowl ring. And if he wins it? Even Gronk might need a fifth to keep the GOAT crown firmly in his hands. Gronk reveals three things Travis Kelce needs to get on his level

New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski is often recognized as the greatest tight end in NFL history. Perhaps his best competition to sitting on that throne has been Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. It's a worthy competition between the two with Kelce being a three-time Super Bowl champion with 10 Pro Bowls and four First-Team All-Pro nods. Meanwhile, Gronkowski is a four-time Super Bowl champion with five Pro Bowls and four First-Team All-Pro nods. He was also the receiving touchdowns leader in 2011. Kelce has been a stat monster who sits behind only Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten with 12,151 career receiving yards. His 178 postseason receptions are more than any other player in NFL history. So why isn't he universally viewed as having surpassed Gronkowski yet? When appearing on Hot Ones Versus with his former teammate, Danny Amedola, Gronkowski looked into the camera and told Kelce what he needed to do to get on his level, all while eating some of the hottest wings in existence. "You got to throw some [expletive] defenders out the club. Two, you need another Super Bowl ring," said a struggling Gronkowski, while thanking Amendola for helping him with the answer. "Three, you got to party your face into the dirt with your fans." The first response by Gronkowski is probably the nail in the coffin for most in the tight end debate. Kelce is an incredible player and a future Hall of Famer, but his makeup as a player tends to lean more toward receiver than actual tight end. Gronkowski was a big-play receiver downfield, but he was also a devastating blocker on the line. His combination of physicality and athleticism for a player at that position is unlike anything ever seen. It looked almost unfair at times watching him bully defenders and run through grown professional athletes like bowling pins. That doesn't minimize Kelce's accomplishments at the very least. It's simply a reminder of how different the two were as players, despite playing at the same position. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

Julian Edelman, Gronk name QB they'd want if Tom Brady never existed

Imagine a world where seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady didn't exist. What current NFL quarterback would be the best to captain the ship under center with Rob Gronkowski at tight end and Julian Edelman at wide receiver? Gronkowski and Edelman both chimed in on the hypothetical quarterback switch with two different answers. Most would expect the two to choose Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl winner. However, Gronkowski instead went with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, while Edelman chose Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller Joe Burrow. "Josh Allen, I love his game. It reminds me of myself at the quarterback position. That was a no-brainer for me. That was the first quarterback that popped up in my head," said Gronkowski on the Dudes on Dudes podcast. Edelman agreed that Allen would be a good choice, and he'd be happy with that option. But he ultimately decided to take things in a different direction. "I would love Josh Allen, but I would love to have Burrow," said Edelman. "I mean, you would love to have Mahomes. Our offense is a little different. There's a little more drop-back pass. I don't know, I mean, Mahomes is pretty good, too, but I think Burrow. I don't want someone running as much as Mahomes on those third downs. I want them throwing because I want those third downs." Allen is the reigning NFL MVP, and Burrow put together an MVP-caliber season last year, despite his team letting him down at every turn. Both would have thrived in an offense with the greatest tight end of all time and one of the all-time great slot receivers as go-to weapons. With that said, it's hard to envision anyone other than Brady throwing to Edelman and Gronkowski. The trio cemented a legacy together in New England that might never be topped. Ex-Patriots OC makes admission on Rob Gronkowski-Aaron Hernandez duo

Former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien revealed some secrets as to how the Patriots offense was functioning at a high level with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez as the tight ends. He sat down with Jon Meterparel on The Bill O'Brien Podcast with Jon Meterparel and admitted teams didn't know how to play against the Gronkowski and Hernandez duo. 'When we got Hernandez and we went 12 personnel, then teams didn't know how to play us," said O'Brien. "They would try base, and we would run them out of that with passes. And then they would go to nickel, and we could run it or throw it. Then, they would go to dime, and Bill Belichick was a genius on the sideline when it came to this stuff. He's like 'They're going dime, go fast, you're trapping them in dime.' So, we would trap teams in dime and just go tempo and run the football.' Gronkowski and Hernandez came into the league together in 2010. They played three seasons with one another and formed one of the greatest tight end duos of all time. It would be hard to find a greater mismatch for a defense than having to deal with Gronkowski and Hernandez at the same time. They were a true nightmare matchup for opponents. Hernandez was arrested and indicted on murder charges, abruptly ending his career with 175 receptions for 1,956 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Gronkowski went on to win four Super Bowls in a career where he posted 621 receptions for 9,286 yards and 421 touchdowns. Many believe he is the greatest tight end in NFL history. One can only imagine how unstoppable the duo might have become if they had played with each other longer. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
