England star holding out for Liverpool offer after REJECTING Spurs
Liverpool are facing uncertainty in the centre-back position heading into the off-season. The 2024/25 Premier League champions succeeded in tying down Virgil van Dijk to a new contract - with the captain now set to stay put until 2027. However, elsewhere in the backline, there could be significant disruption in the transfer window. Joe Gomez has suffered a poor campaign on a personal level and could be sold with the club having considered offloading him last summer. Advertisement Jarell Quansah could be sacrificed in order to fund much-needed incomings elsewhere. And perhaps the most worrying situation concerns Ibrahima Konate. With still no breakthrough in contract talks, the French defender could be sold before he leaves on a free in 2026. It all means that Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes could be in the market for a new centre-back this summer. Having seen Dean Huijsen wrap up a move to Real Madrid, the champions will have to look elsewhere for reinforcements. Guehi back on the menu for Liverpool And England international Marc Guehi could be back on the menu if a report in Football Insider is to be believed. Advertisement Tottenham failed with a last-gasp move for the 24-year-old back in January but his Crystal Palace contract expires in 2026. The FA Cup winners have little choice but to sell Guehi this summer and previous reports suggested he could be available for only £40m. The latest report states that Guehi has REJECTED a renewed attempt from Spurs to persuade him and that he is holding out for an offer from a team who consistently challenge for trophies. Newcastle are also expected to follow up on their interest in Guehi, who joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021 for £18m. © IMAGO Newcastle to compete with Liverpool 'Palace boss Oliver Glasner will be powerless to keep Marc Guehi this summer amid interest from the Magpies as well as Liverpool, who are also understood to be at the table,' the report reads. Advertisement 'Newcastle United are expected to make another move for the 24-year-old after four bids were rejected in the summer of 2024.' Guehi is a Premier League-proven international and players of his calibre don't normally come as cheap. If Hughes and Slot are planning to safeguard against depletion in the backline, they could do a lot worse than adding the Eagles' captain.

Signings and sales- your transfer window priorities
We asked for you to tell us what Crystal Palace need to do in the summer transfer are some of your comments:Gary: I would sell Guehi but only to raise funds to bring players with European experience. We need cover for Mitchell and Munoz - they can't play every game (they played 40-plus last season). Also, a third striker and another attacking midfielder. Important to keep this squad If Eze and Guehi are to leave, we need to get them out early so we can find proper replacements. If the rumours are true that Eze is being offered a new contract then that would be fantastic, but we have to make a decision with Guehi. Do we want to sell him now or lose him on a free later to help with our European quest? If he does leave, 2two CBs are needed (Odilon Kossounou and Trevoh Chalobah would be my personal favourite picks) while LWB cover is desperately needed (either El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague or potentially Ben Chilwell on a permanent for that one).Alan: Unfortunately, Eze and Guehi will probably go. Guehi is maybe easier to replace - could Chalobah return permanently this time? He doesn't appear to be first choice at Chelsea and already knows our system. On that point, perhaps Chilwell will sign another loan, as we probably can't afford his full salary. An Eze replacement is more tricky, maybe it's to early for Esse or Franc to step up. But if Eze and Guehi go, we will have £100m to We need to keep as many of our star players as we can. With such a great season and our first major trophy under our belt, it would feel like a massive backwards step if we lost some of the spine of our team. It's a chance for us to build something special, so we need the players to buy into the vision. The best way to do that might be to make a marquee signing of our own, early in the window for once, to signal our We need to nail down what we have first. Adam Wharton needs an improved contract but with a £100m-plus release clause. We need to get Mateta to sign new terms and, most importantly, persuade Marc Guehi to lead us into Europe. Then we need to offload Edouard and Rak-Sakhi. Number one target for me? Jobe Bellingham.

Newcastle in 'pole position' to sign Man Utd target and former Chelsea player
Newcastle United are in 'pole position' to sign two Premier League stars ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea, according to reports. The Magpies are ready to back Eddie Howe in the transfer market following a superb season in which Newcastle qualified for the Champions League and won the Carabao Cup. Newcastle finished fifth in the Premier League and the division's strong UEFA co-efficient meant that was enough to secure a return to the Champions League next season. Howe's side also won the Carabao Cup – beating Premier League champions Liverpool in the final – to end a 70-year wait for domestic silverware. Speaking after the final day of the Premier League season, Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes stressed the need for new signings as the club look to compete in Europe and consolidate their status as a top-six side. According to the Daily Telegraph, Newcastle are ready to make their first moves in the summer transfer market with bids for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Mbeumo, 25, enjoyed another impressive season at Brentford, with his form attracting interest from the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool. United reportedly opened talks with Brentford over a deal for the Cameroon international last week but the Telegraph claim Newcastle are in 'pole position' to reach an agreement. Ruben Amorim's focus is currently on bringing Matheus Cunha to Old Trafford, with United ready to activate his £62.5m release clause at Wolves. Guehi, meanwhile, was heavily linked with a move to St James' Park last summer but ended up staying at Palace and helping the Eagles enjoy a fantastic campaign. Oliver Glasner's side recovered from a difficult start to the season to finish 12th, while they beat Manchester City in the final to lift the FA Cup. Guehi has attracted interest from Manchester United and his former club Chelsea but Newcastle are keen to make him one of their first signings of the summer. Speaking last week, Howe urged his bosses to get cracking on signings as he also targets a new goalkeeper to replace Nick Pope and striker to support Alexander Isak. 'Speed is key for us,' the Newcastle manager said. 'I've reiterated that many times internally. 'Speed is key because we have to be dynamic, we have to be ready to conclude things very, very quickly because good players don't hang around for long. 'That's always been my thought and my message on recruitment because you can have a period where you think you've got time, but then you can look around very quickly and realise that that time has elapsed and you have missed opportunities that you won't get again. 'That's what we'll be trying, but obviously the reality of that is it's not always in your hands. But we'll be doing our best to do things early.' Guimaraes insists Newcastle have 'improved a lot' and are 'very happy' with their season but fears the squad will be 'a little bit short' next season if the necessary signings are not secured. 'We have improved a lot, but I think we're not at the level that I want,' the Brazil international said. More Trending 'I think for next season, we are going to need more players to be honest with you because I think the squad is a little bit short. 'We have seen it last year when we played in the Champions League, we lost some players for injury and then it was busy for us. 'I think we can improve our level because next year, our season will have one more competition. 'We need to work hard now, have an amazing holiday. We need to improve of course but we're very, very happy.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Guehi's England omission linked to eye injury
Marc Guehi's omission from the England squad is connected to the eye injury he suffered during the FA Cup final. BBC Sport can reveal that England manager Thomas Tuchel phoned the Guehi on Thursday to explain that he didn't want to risk re-injuring the defender's eye. Tuchel made clear to the Crystal Palace captain that he remains vital to his plans, but felt he needed to focus on recovering from the issue. Guehi spent Saturday night in hospital with a suspected fractured eye socket, though tests later confirmed he had escaped a crack and the injury was severe bruising.
