Scots firefighter found dead one week after going missing
Richard Scott, from Oban, was sadly discovered dead on Tuesday, June 24 A Scots firefighter has tragically been found dead one week after going missing. Richard Scott, from Oban, was discovered dead on Tuesday, June 24. The 56-year-old was reported missing on Thursday, June 19 and was last seen leaving Chesterfield Hospital in Derbyshire that day. Derbyshire Constabulary confirmed the tragic news. There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Tributes have poured in for the popular firefighter and former RAF serviceman who worked at fire bases in Oban and Dalmally in Argyll and Bute. Many fire stations lowered their flags to half mast in his honour. A statement from Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service reads: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that firefighter Richard Scott, who was previously reported missing, has tragically been found deceased. "As a mark of respect, we have lowered our station flag. "Our heartfelt thoughts and deepest condolences are with Richard's family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time." A statement from Firefighters Charity reads: "Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of firefighter and RAF veteran Richard Scott and we send our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. "While our flags will fly at half-mast in tribute, please know we are here if you need to talk – our confidential Crisis Line is open 24/7." "His family are aware and our thoughts are with them at this time. "A formal ID has taken place. "There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances."

Fire in St Peter Port prompts smoke alarm advice
The fire service has reminded islanders to check their smoke alarms after a fire broke out in St Peter Port. Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to a fire at a property on La Charroterie on Sunday. Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service said a candle had caused the fire and residents had been alerted by smoke alarms so had left the building before firefighters arrived. Guernsey Police said it had closed the road during the incident and opened it about an hour later. Emergency crews to carry out car fire drill at Guernsey harbour
Emergency services will be taking part in a joint training exercise at a harbour in Guernsey Ports said the emergency scenario would be based on "an electric vehicle fire in a busy car check in area".It said the exercise, scheduled to take place between 09:00 and 12:00 GMT, aims to test the emergency response - including firefighting, evacuation and other health and safety harbour master Mike Harris said it was "essential our emergency services get regular opportunities to train together". 'Noise and activity' Mr Harris said: "Public safety is our highest priority and the exercise will test our procedures and help us improve our emergency plans where necessary. "People around the Town seafront may notice increased noise and activity from emergency service vehicles during the exercise, and we ask for their patience and understanding during this time."Staff from Guernsey Ports, Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service, Ambulance and Rescue Guernsey, Bailiwick Law Enforcement, the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre, Condor Ferries and Civil Protection volunteers were set to take part. There will be smoke machines and people should "not be alarmed if they see smoke billowing from this area" while the training exercise is under way, Guernsey Ports said access to the eastern end of the north approach road would be suspended until 13:00 GMT.
