City's top cop receives award at World Police summit in Dubai

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner CV Anand who is also representing The HNEW- Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement wing was awarded the first position for 'Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award' at the World Police Summit (WPS) 2025 organised by the Dubai police. This international recognition was bestowed upon him due to the proactive measures undertaken to curb drug trafficking and consumption in Hyderabad, awareness programmes conducted for drug control for students and public in the Hyderabad commissionerate limits, and the significant achievements made in this regard in the past three years. At the awards ceremony held at the Dubai Police Officers Club, UAE, from May 13 to 16, Anand received the award' from the WPS committee. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that prominent police officers from 138 countries participated in the International Police Summit-2025. He expressed immense happiness that the city police H-NEW had won the 'Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award' after competing with highly efficient police forces from various continents. He acknowledged the hard work and dedication of his team members in achieving this prestigious award and extended his sincere gratitude to each of them. Anand emphasised that this achievement is a matter of great pride not only for the Telangana police, but for the entire police force of India. He attributed this recognition to the innovative work practices and comprehensive approach adopted by H-NEW in controlling narcotics. Twelve police officers and innovators from various law enforcement agencies of 12 countries were awarded the first prize in various categories of law enforcement. In a panel discussion preceding the awards function, Anand spoke about the issues of narcotics faced by India as a nation, especially after Covid, the ways narcotics are entering the country, the gangs and peddlers apprehended, the efforts to watch educational institutions through anti-drug committees and awareness campaigns, the rehabilitation measures.

Hyderabad: City police commissioner CV Anand received the ' Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award ' on Friday at the World Police Summit 2025 (WPS) held in Dubai. The even saw the participation of 138 countries and awards were given under 12 different categories. The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing ( H-NEW ) was selected in one of the 12 categories for its work in anti-narcotics enforcement . The Hyderabad CP, who is the head of H-NEW, received the award. "I spoke about issues related to narcotics faced by India, especially after Covid, the ways in which drugs are entering the country and the various gangs apprehended. H-New's awareness campaigns in educational institutions through anti-drug committees as well as rehabilitation measures were highlighted," Anand said. The other 11 categories are: Excellence in Road Safety, Best Innovative Idea in Security and Law Enforcement, Best Artificial Intelligence Implementation in Policing, Excellence in Forensic Science, Good Samaritan, Excellence in Customer Service in Policing, People of Determination Excellence, Startups Innovation, Inspiring Female Officer, and Best Police Application Award.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand and the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) have been awarded first place in the 'Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award' category at the World Police Summit (WPS) 2025. Organised by Dubai Police, the summit will take place from May 13 to 15, and the award will be presented during a formal ceremony at the Dubai Police Officers Club on the final day. The World Police Summit brings together law enforcement agencies from over 138 countries, including elite forces such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York City Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department, Metropolitan Police, Australian Federal Police and the German Police. The summit fosters strategic dialogue, collaboration and the exchange of best practices to address challenges in modern policing. Entries from police units across continents underwent a rigorous two-stage evaluation process led by an expert jury and Dubai police. Entries were assessed on parameters including reduction in drug supply, decline in substance use, community engagement and inter-agency collaboration. H-NEW's success stems from a multi-pronged model that includes coordination with national and State-level agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate, Narcotics Control Bureau, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, GST, Excise, Counter Intelligence, Drugs Control Administration, and Foreigners Regional Registration Office, widespread community outreach, aggressive enforcement against international and interstate drug networks, dark web interventions, deportation of foreign offenders and parallel focus on rehabilitation. The official will receive the award in Dubai.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), along with the Nallakunta police, in a joint operation busted an inter-State drug racket and apprehended four persons involved in drug peddling from darknet market. The police seized 1,380 grams OG (hydroponic ganja), 44 LSD blots, 250 grams of magic mushrooms and other material, all worth Rs 1.4 crore. The police arrested an inter-State drug suppliers Harshvardan Shrivastava (30) of Jabalpur (MP) and B Srinivasa Rahul (30) of Chennai,State and local peddlers Abhishek (26) and Dhawal (29) of Secunderabad. According to the police, a dangerous drug supply chain has been uncovered, involving multiple individuals operating across India. 'Harsh sources high-quality cannabis (OG) from the Darknet marketplace 'Dread Market' using encrypted platforms like Signal App. He acts as a middleman, buying OG at Rs 15,000 per ounce and selling it for Rs 25,000 through courier services like DTDC, Sri Thirupati and Sri Anjaneyulu Couriers,' said P Vishwaprasad, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes & SIT). He was doing drug trade in both Crypto and Hawala by using VPN to avoid police surveillance. The police explained about the hydroponic hanja, marijuana grown using hydroponic technique and artificial lights is known as hydro ganja. It is grown in a water-rich environment, not soil. Smugglers usually buy the seeds online and grow plants using LED lights. The police booked a case U/Sec. 8(c), r/w. 20(b)(ii)(B), 22(c), 27(b) of NDPS Act-1985. The H-NEW urged the public to refrain from substance abuse. Parents are advised to monitor their children's activities closely to prevent them from falling prey to drugs. In a significant crackdown on narcotics distribution, Hyderabad police have arrested five individuals — including three inter-state drug traffickers — in two separate operations. Authorities seized drugs valued at over ₹1.4 crore, including ganja, LSD, and magic mushrooms. In the first operation, a joint team from the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and Nallakunta Police apprehended four suspects: Harshvardhan Shrivastava, a 30-year-old architect from Madhya Pradesh; B. Srinivasa Rahul, an IT professional from Chennai; and two Hyderabad-based peddlers, Abhishek and Dhawal. According to officials, Shrivastava sourced drugs from the darknet's Dread Market using encrypted platforms like Signal, with payments made through cryptocurrency and hawala networks. Rahul, meanwhile, acquired hydroponic ganja, or OG, via Snapchat, distributing it across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai using courier services and digital communication platforms. The police recovered 1.38 kilograms of hydroponic ganja, 44 LSD blots, 250 grams of magic mushrooms, ₹10,640 in cash, six mobile phones, and two two-wheelers, all collectively valued at ₹1.4 crore. In a separate operation, the Central Zone Task Force in coordination with Ramgopalpet Police arrested 29-year-old Sunil Bindhani of Odisha at Ranigunj X Road. Bindhani, who operates a fast-food outlet in his village, was found carrying 1.1 kilograms of ganja reportedly sourced for ₹5,000 from a local supplier in Odisha. He had traveled to Hyderabad by train. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) P. Viswa Prasad, addressing the media on Tuesday, stated that further investigation is underway to uncover the broader network behind these operations.
