‘HIM' Sports Horror Depicts Marlon Wayans As Pro QB With A Dark Secret

Jordan Peele is continuing to innovate the horror genre by producing films that platform Black actors and tell stories in a realm where they're either rarely seen or offed far too quickly. HIM , produced by Peele, stars Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers, examines the high cost of fame and the sacrifices some would make to obtain greatness. Produced by Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, HIM stars Wayans as Isaiah White, a star professional quarterback in his waning years who mentors rising quarterback Cameron Cade, played by Withers, who some might remember from the 'Rich Wigga, Poor Wigga' episode of Atlanta from show creator Donald Glover. In a trailer for HIM delivered last Friday (April 18), White is the top quarterback of his team and takes in Cade to train him in an isolated compound. What Cade discovers in his journey is that the price of sports excellence will cost him dearly, and it appears White is attempting to cast his curse onto his young protege. HIM , which was initially titled GOAT , is directed by Justin Tipping, who was the director and writer for 2016's Kicks and was the director and producer for the television show Flatbush Misdemeanors , among other works. The film is slated for a September 19 release. Jordan Peele-Produced Sports Horror Flick ‘Him' Debuts Trailer With Tyriq Withers, Marlon Wayans

Fans of Jordan Peele-esque horror can look forward to upcoming release Him, produced by the Get Out filmmaker via his Monkey Paw production company. The debut trailer for the 2025 release gives a scattered picture of the film's plot, which finds young football player Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers) attempting to recover after being attacked by a deranged fan, resulting in a brain injury. With his career and lifelong dream on the line, retired football legend Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans) steps in to offer his services in getting the rising star back in shape — both physically and mentally — using some unconventional and dangerous methods hinted at within the 1:44 teaser. 'Talent is how hard you're willing to work,' Wayans emotes. ''I'm never good enough' — that's how great people think. So you're going to have to ask yourself, 'What am I willing to sacrifice?'' Check it out above. The Universal Pictures release is directed by Justin Tipping and co-star's Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, Akeem Hayes and Tierra Whack. The flick debuted its first footage at CinemaCon earlier this month, THR reports. Peele's fellow Monkey Paw producers include Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld and Jamal Watson. The screenplay was handled by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. Check out the official synopsis below: 'HIM stars former college wide-receiver Tyriq Withers (Atlanta, the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer) as Cameron Cade, a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life, and identity, to football. On the eve of professional football's annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma. 'Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah's isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White (Julia Fox; Uncut Gems, No Sudden Move). But as Cam's training accelerates, Isaiah's charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.' Sports and Horror Collide in First Footage From Jordan Peele-Produced ‘HIM'

Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers hit the CinemaCon stage on Wednesday and bantered with each other before introducing a first look teaser of 'HIM,' which was produced by Jordan Peele. 'It's a sports movie with a twist,' Wayans said. The teaser starts in a loud stadium. Footage shows two football players training and challenging each before two helmets collide. A series of quick cuts ensue. 'What are you willing to sacrifice,' Wayan's character says. Both football players come face to to face: 'Show me,' Wayans said. The film stars Marlon Wayans, Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies and hip-hop stars Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack, both in their feature film debuts. Justin Tipping directed the project. The screenplay for 'HIM' was written by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie and made the Black List of best unproduced screenplays in 2022. Described on the title sheet as 'an anti-sports horror movie,' the movie 'centers on a promising young football player who is invited to train at the isolated compound of a dynasty team's aging QB1,' per the official synopsis. Wayans plays the legendary quarterback; Withers is his protégé. 'HIM,' which Universal describes as 'a blood-chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, power and the pursuit of excellence at any cost,' is produced by Peele, Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld and Jamal M. Watson for Monkeypaw Productions. It is executive produced by David Kern and Monkeypaw's Kate Oh. Universal will release the Jordan Peele-produced 'HIM,' formerly known as 'GOAT,' on Sept. 19, 2025. ‘Woke war criminal Putin doesn't get to play the victim': GOP hawks pile ceasefire pressure on Putin

Republican Russia hawks lambasted Vladimir Putin for not accepting the terms of a ceasefire deal with Ukraine on Thursday, following the Trump administration's lead as it seeks to pressure the Kremlin into a peace deal. The Russian president on Thursday avoided outright rejecting the proposal that came out of negotiations earlier in the week between U.S. and Ukrainian officials. But he threw major obstacles in the path to peace by demanding inclusion of a series of conditions regarding the 'root causes of the crisis.' 'Putin doesn't want peace. He wants conquest,' Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) wrote on X. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) echoed the Texas senator's comments, saying: 'President Trump graciously offered Putin a way out of this insanity. Problem is Putin does not want peace, he wants Ukraine.' The South Carolinian also slammed Putin, writing that 'woke war criminal Putin doesn't get to play the victim. He invaded a sovereign country of 40 million, his forces delighting in utter sadism. He cares nothing for the people of Russia, sending child soldiers and amputees to die for HIM.' Key members of the Trump administration pushed the same ceasefire message Wednesday, demanding that Putin accept the terms of the proposal. When asked about Putin's message, Trump said Thursday in the Oval Office that the Russian leader 'put out a very promising statement, but it wasn't complete,' adding that he would 'love to meet with him or talk to him, but we have to get it over with fast.' Trump also evaded committing to using points of leverage to push the Kremlin to a deal Thursday, citing ongoing conversations between American and Russian negotiators. Putin and special envoy Steve Witkoff are set to meet in Moscow on Thursday night. The Kremlin has claimed that its mission in launching what it calls a 'special military operation' in Ukraine is to rid the country of 'Nazis,' which Russia falsely says are governing. Ukraine and its supporters say that the Russian incursion aims more broadly to destroy the country's government and take over vast portions of its land, and allies have long vowed to support Ukrainian defense. Trump has cast doubt on the U.S.' commitment to Ukraine in recent weeks, oscillating from publicly belittling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office last month and seemingly seeking to align U.S. policy with the Kremlin to negotiating a 30-day ceasefire proposal with Ukrainian officials and threatening 'devastating' economic consequences for Russia if it does not agree. Many Republicans have largely fallen in line behind the president's changing approaches, but longtime supporters of Ukraine — some of whom have obliquely criticized the Trump administration or remained quiet — were quick on Thursday to blast the Russian leader's response to the proposed deal, which effectively delays any meaningful movement toward ending the war. Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.), who has been increasingly outspoken in his support for Ukraine in recent weeks, said Putin's response to the deal 'is not a surprise.' 'Russia slams door on truce with Ukraine. It is not a surprise,' Bacon wrote on X, noting that 'Putin started this invasion' — a fact that Trump has falsely contradicted. 'Trump is right to send military aid and intelligence to Ukraine. It's time to confiscate Russian assets and do real and hard sanctions on all Russian exports,' the Nebraskan said.
