Steve Mandanda to leave Rennes upon contract expiry
Rennes goalkeeper Steve Mandanda (40) is expected to leave the Bretons upon the expiry of his contract this June, according to Le Parisien. Mandanda joined Stade Rennais in 2022 as a free agent when his Marseille contract expired. The former France international went on to feature 101 times with Les Rouge et Noir. Mandanda's status as No. 1 has been revoked following the €15m signing of Brice Samba (31) from Ligue 1 rivals Lens in the winter transfer window. The outlet understands that Rennes president Arnaud Pouille has made clear to Mandanda that he would not offer him a new contract beyond June 30. Several clubs have enquired with Mandanda regarding his availability. The 2018 World Cup winner is still reportedly in good spirits at Rennes, despite his demotion, and has a good relationship with head coach Habib Beye. It remains to be seen whether Mandanda will pursue his career elsewhere or stick around in Rennes under a new role, or hang up his gloves for good. GFFN | Bastien Cheval

Kyogo finally shakes his Celtic curse before Rennes boss follows another striker slight with transfer cull gauntlet
The forward has endured a nightmare in France following his big money move to Ligue 1 Boss Habib Beye admits has challenged out of favour Stade Rennes player to earn their future another indignity for Kyogo Furuhashi. The 30-year-old left Celtic in January but he has been hampered by a persistent should injury that plagued him during his time in the Scottish Premiership after leaving for Ligue 1 in the winter window. He has yet to score his first goal for his new club after his £10million move with boss Beye, who replaced Jorge Sampaoli just days after the arrival of the Hoops' fan favourite, only handing him one start so far. But Beye has confirmed to Ouest-France that the Japan international has been passed fit - despite leaving him out of the last two squads to face Nantes and Lyon. And things have gone from bad to worse for the frontman after he failed to make the 21-man team sheet that will face Toulouse on Saturday. Going into the showdown, the Rennes gaffer has hinted that more players may be moved out the door that come in this summer. He said: "The project will be what it will be, but we have to adjust things to be much more consistent. "And we start again with a preparation, a shared the summer We're discussing it. You know the context very well. "There are players on loan who will be returning, and we'll have to make choices about the future of certain players who are not featured. "There are players who will define their future differently than Stade Rennes. They have time, but the elements are already advanced to work on next season." While on international duty in March, Kyogo insisted he had no concerns over his minutes as he set his sights on the 2026 World Cup. He said: "I am gaining confidence. I'm putting my all into the game and showing my skills every day, and my time is increasing little by little. "I think I'm almost there. I will actively work on it and practice onwards for next season. "If I could have entered training with more strength, we could have seen a slightly different scene I want to be able to break through. I hope to be called up to the next national team again." Rennes planning transfer window around Habib Beye
Rennes planning transfer window around Habib Beye According to a report from Foot Mercato, Stade Rennais are planning on a future with Habib Beye as their manager. The former Red Star head coach is on a contract that lasts until the end of the season, but he has the option to automatically extend his stay by a further year. Advertisement Notwithstanding a dramatic turnaround in Rennes' fortunes, Beye should be the Rennes manager going into the 2025/26 season. The club have been impressed by his short tenure, where he was able to lift the underperforming team out of the relegation playoff spot and into 12th heading into this weekend. The feeling is mutual, and Beye appears happy in his role for the Breton side and wants to continue into the new campaign. Foot Mercato writes that Les Rouge et Noirs have asked Beye to think about the transfer window. He will likely be joined by some new faces at the club, with RC Strasbourg Alsace's Loïc Désiré the favourite to replace Frederic Massara as sporting director and Laurent Bessière as the director of performance. Rennes to miss Brice Samba and Ludovic Blas for Ligue 1 clash with Reims
A 2-0 victory over AS Saint-Étienne on Friday came at a cost for Stade Rennais. While that triumph put Habib Beye's men in 12th, the new Rennes manager will be without two key figures when they host Stade de Reims in a couple of weeks time. First-choice goalkeeper Brice Samba (30) and Ludovic Blas (27) will be forced out of that encounter through suspension. Blas leads the Breton club with six assists in the top flight this season, while Samba has posted a clean sheet in his last two matches since Beye took over from Jorge Sampaoli. On Friday, both players received their third yellows in the last 10 Ligue 1 matches for this team, leading to their suspensions. With back-to-back wins, Rennes are five points clear of AS Saint-Étienne in the relegation play-off battle and six ahead of Le Havre AC, who are in one of the top automatic relegation places. Reims are just a point below Stade Rennais in 14th and are currently winless in their last 10 Ligue 1 affairs, losing 4-0 at Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday. The next match for Rennes in the French top flight occurs next Sunday when they host Lille OSC at Roazhon Park before welcoming Reims to Brittany on February 21. GFFN | Joel Lefevre

Habib Beye: Senegalese coach makes history at French club Rennes
Published: Wednesday, 12 February 2025 Former Senegal international defender Habib Beye has made an immediate impact as head coach of French club Rennes, becoming one of the few African managers to take charge of a club in Europe's top five leagues. The 47-year-old, who played for the Senegal national team in its glory days, has started his tenure in impressive fashion, guiding Rennes to two consecutive victories in Ligue 1. His feat places him in the club's history books, as he becomes only the third coach to win his first two matches in charge—joining Kalman Szekany (1932) and Julien Stéphan (2018). Beye, who previously managed French lower-tier side Red Star FC, is proud to be a trailblazer for African coaches in European football. 'A worthy representative' Reflecting on his new role and the significance of his appointment, Beye said he carries the aspirations of both Senegal and Africa in his work. 'We have a continent that is full of talent and that shines constantly,' he said on . 'My work as a man is what my father passed on to me, and today, I am a worthy representative of France, Senegal, and the entire continent.' His appointment comes at a time when African coaches are still underrepresented in top European leagues, despite the continent's rich footballing heritage and the success of its players at the highest level. Beye, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career as a right-back for clubs including Olympique Marseille and Newcastle United, has gradually built his reputation as a coach. His time at French second tier side Red Star FC saw him gain recognition for his tactical approach and leadership. With Rennes currently striving for a strong finish in Ligue 1, Beye's early success has raised expectations among fans and club officials alike. If he continues on this trajectory, he could pave the way for more African coaches to secure opportunities in top European football.
