British Soap Awards 2025 afterparty evacuated due to security alert
Stars from the four major UK soaps hit the red carpet on Saturday night for the return of the British Soap Awards – though the celebrations were interrupted early after a security threat at the afterparty. Following the main event at the Hackney Empire in London, which saw EastEnders come out on top with the most awards, actors and crew members headed next door to Hackney Town Hall to party the rest of the night away. However, the celebrations were interrupted in the early hours of the morning when a call was received that was deemed a security threat, Metro understands. An ITV spokesperson said: 'Owing to a security alert after the recording of the awards, it was necessary to evacuate the afterparty venue. Everyone was cleared from the building safely.' This came hours after the recording of the awards ceremony, which saw EastEnders take home the coveted prize for Best Soap. They also took home the awards for Best Single Episode, Scene of the Year, Villain of the Year, Best Dramatic Performance, Best Leading Performer, Best On-Screen Partnership and Best Comedy Performance. It was also a great night for Hollyoaks, who took received the awards for Best Family and Best Storyline, with Frankie Osborne actress Isabelle Smith winning Best Newcomer. More Trending Emmerdale's Amelia Flanagan won Best Young Performer for her work as April Windsor, while Cameraman Mike Plant was honoured with the Tony Warren Award. EastEnders dominates British Soap Awards with eight prizes
The ceremony, hosted at Hackney Empire in London by singer Jane McDonald, saw stars from the biggest soaps in the country go head to head for best scenes, performances and storylines. The popular BBC show won eight prizes on the night. It also took home the highly anticipated award for Best British Soap, with the trophy presented by Only Fools and Horses actor Sir David Jason. A post shared by EastEnders (@bbceastenders) Other awards given out to EastEnders and its cast included Best Dramatic Performance, handed to Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell. The Best Single Episode went to Phil's Psychosis, which saw him hallucinate scenes from the Mitchell family home in 1985. EastEnders also won Scene Of The Year, for Angie Watts' shock return as a ghost during its 40th anniversary episode. Other EastEnders wins were Navin Chowdhry, named Villain of the Year for his portrayal of Nish Panesar, and Patsy Palmer, who plays Bianca Jackson, who took home Best Comedy performance. Best On-Screen Partnership was won by Rudolph Walker, who plays Patrick Trueman and Angela Wynter, who plays his ex-wife, Yolande Trueman. Other awards on the night went to Hollyoaks, which won three, including an award for the abuse storyline between Osborne twins Jack Junior (JJ) and Frankie, played by Ryan Mulvey and Isabelle Smith. ITV's Emmerdale won Best Young Performer for 16-year-old Amelia Flanagan, who plays April Windsor. Emmerdale achieved a second award through Mike Plant, who won the Tony Warren Award. Coronation Street took home just one prize, with an outstanding achievement award for David Neilson, cafe owner Roy Cropper, who joined the show nearly three decades ago. The British Soap Awards after party was evacuated after a 'bomb threat' security alert on Saturday night - as the stars were forced to leave the venue following the glitzy ceremony. Stars of the country's favourite soaps descended on Hackney Empire in London on Saturday for the annual bash which was hosted by Jane McDonald. They then headed on to Hackney Town Hall for the afterparty when just before 1am a call which was deemed a security threat was made. The security team ensured swift protocols were followed and everyone was evacuated safely whilst the threat was investigated. A source told The Mirror of what happened: 'We all got evacuated just before 1am. No reason was given at first and security came round and told us we had to leave immediately. It was reported that after it was clear no one would be let back in many started to slowly just head home. It was a good night for the residents of Walford as EastEnders emerged as the victor of this year's British Soap Awards with eight gongs. It was the BBC 's EastEnders that cleaned up on the night with eight awards while Hollyoaks received three, Emmerdale two and Coronation Street only one. They kicked off their wins with Best Episode which went to Phil's Psychosis: The Mitchells In 1985. EastEnders also won Scene of the Year for Angie Watts' Shock Return while Navin Chowdhry won Best Villain for his role of Nish Panesar. Last year's show was suddenly cancelled with no explanation after the nominees had been announced. The June 2023 edition reached 5.7 million viewers in total with just under one million streams on ITVX and a peak of 3.2m viewers via its linear overnight broadcast. Singer and self-confessed soaps lover Jane, 61, stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Phillip Schofield two years ago after he quit ITV after admitting to an affair with a young male This Morning colleague.
