‘I love my cats': All's fair for feted felines at curious new cat expo

The famous adage goes that dogs have masters, and cats have staff. A phalanx of felines basked in the slavish, open adoration of fanciers who flocked to Melbourne's newest cat expo on Sunday. And for an inaugural event, there was enough to see at the Oz Feline Fair to tickle cat lovers' fancies, including a hairless elf-breed cat riding a skateboard, Bengal cats with leopard-like fur, and Persian cats with enough hair to make a small rug. Even attendees like Zoe Jackson, 9, of Thomastown, who already had pet moggies queued for the popular 'pat a kitten' stall. Zoe wanted 'to pat a different cat'. On the stage, charismatic Portugal-based American cat judge Steven Meserve held court, talking about the characteristics of Persian cats. Charmayne Hales, of Enfield, near Ballarat, said she didn't have three of her cats judged at the fair for the money. The prize for 'supreme exhibit', won by Lil Winnie, a Singapura cat owned by Fiona Sullivan, of Grantville, was worth about $1500. Hales said she enjoys showing off the rare breed Australian mist, which was developed 50 years ago and blends Burmese, Abyssinian and domestic breeds. Hales said she, husband Gary and daughter Emma, 12, love chatting to the public at the 20 shows a year they attend with their cats.

Islamabad United explain Alex Hales' sudden departure from PSL 10

Islamabad United has clarified the unavailability of English batter Alex Hales for the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, citing personal commitments. In an official statement, the franchise said that changes in the PSL schedule meant Hales would be unable to continue with the team for the remainder of the season. He is scheduled to travel to Spain after May 18 to attend the wedding of a close friend. 'This arrangement was mutually agreed upon at the time of signing the contract,' Islamabad United said, adding that Hales has always been considered a vital part of the United family. Quetta storm into PSL 10 final after beating Islamabad in Qualifier 1 Hales also expressed his sentiments, stating, 'Islamabad United is like family to me. Playing for them has always been a joy, and being part of the team again this season was a fantastic experience.' The English batter extended his best wishes to the team for the playoffs and assured that he will be supporting the side from Spain. Islamabad United is currently in contention for a playoff spot in PSL 10 and will now have to fill the void left by the experienced top-order batter.

PSL 10: Alex Hales, van der Dussen rejoin Islamabad United

England's explosive opener Alex Hales, South African middle-order batter Rassie van der Dussen have joined Islamabad United for the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). 'Islamabad United are delighted to welcome South Africa's star batter Rassie van der Dussen for the remainder of HBL PSL X,' the franchise said in a statement. Earlier, English opener Hales had also confirmed his availability for United. 'Islamabad United has always been very close to my heart,' Hales was quoted as saying by the franchise. PSL 10 revised schedule announced Hales, who was signed by United in April, said he had to reshuffle a few prior commitments after the change in PSL dates but remained fully committed to contributing to the team's campaign. 'I was really looking forward to joining up with the squad for the latter stages of the tournament,' he added. 'I'm absolutely thrilled to be back in Pakistan playing in Red. Hopefully, I can contribute and help the team push for another title.' Islamabad United, two-time champions, will be hoping Hales' return bolsters their top order as the business end of the tournament approaches.
