Anwar will be accompanied by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg; Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor; Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail; Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz; Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. 'This Annual Consultation represents the highest-level bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and Indonesia, aimed at reinforcing strategic and comprehensive cooperation,' Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin said during a media briefing here on Sunday. He said the Annual Consultation, convened alternately between the two countries since 2006, reflects the strong political commitment of both nations to enhance collaboration across a wide range of sectors, including trade and investment, defence and security, connectivity, food security and education. 'The leaders are expected to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest,' he said, adding that a Joint Statement will be issued at the conclusion of the consultation. The previous consultation was held in 2017, making this a timely opportunity for both leaders to reaffirm their strategic partnership and explore new areas of cooperation in response to current regional and global challenges. Syed Mohamad Hasrin said the leaders will also witness the exchange of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in the areas of land border, health cooperation and information and communications technology. During the visit, he said the Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, at the invitation of the ASEAN Secretary-General, Dr Kao Kim Hourn. Anwar will also deliver a Policy Speech on ASEAN in the context of Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, underscoring Malaysia's ongoing commitment to regional integration and community-building. In 2024, Indonesia ranked as Malaysia's sixth-largest global trading partner and the second largest within ASEAN. Bilateral trade increased by 4.5 per cent from RM111.21 billion (US$24.39 billion) in 2023 to RM116.29 billion (US$25.5 billion) in 2024. – Bernama anwar ibrahim bilateral relations indonesia Prabowo Subianto

China's premier says China and Indonesia will promote 'true multilateralism'
China's Premier Li Qiang (left) walks with Indonesia's Minister of Investment and Downstream Policy Rosan Roeslani upon Li's arrival at the Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport in Jakarta on Saturday, May 24, 2025. -- Photo by YASUYOSHI CHIBA / AFP SHANGHAI/JAKARTA (Reuters): China's Premier Li Qiang said on Saturday that China and Indonesia will promote "true multilateralism" as he landed in Jakarta on a two-day visit to South-East Asia's largest economy. China has intensified engagement with countries in the region since US President Donald Trump announced hefty import tariffs on its global trading partners earlier this year. Some levies have since been delayed, while China and the US agreed this month to pause some of their tariffs. Jakarta, whose biggest trading partner is China, has offered the US a number of concessions in a bid to soften tariffs against Indonesia. At a business leaders' event later on Saturday, at which Li was present, Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto said relations between Beijing and Jakarta were key for regional stability, adding that Indonesia views China as an important partner in developing industry and technology. He also praised China's role in defending the interests of developing countries and its stand against "imperialism" and "colonialism." Prabowo and Li will hold a meeting on Sunday to discuss how to strengthen Indonesia-China relations, Indonesian investment minister Rosan Roeslani said in a statement. Following the visit to Jakarta, Li will travel to Malaysia to attend the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, Xinhua reported. Leaders of Indonesia and Turkey hold talks on defense and economic ties
BOGOR, Indonesia, Feb 12, (AP): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday for talks aimed at strengthening economic and defense ties between the two Muslim-majority nations. The two countries are holding their first High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council summit after agreeing to create the forum at a meeting in Bali in 2022. Erdogan's state visit to Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority country and Southeast Asia's largest economy, was his second stop in a four-day visit that also includes Malaysia and Pakistan. "This meeting is the highest regular bilateral forum between the two countries where all matters of common interest will be discussed, including strategic issues and priorities,' said Indonesian foreign ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat ahead of the visit. A Turkish statement said the discussions will be focused on current regional and global issues, particularly the war in Gaza. On Monday, the Turkish leader met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and reiterated his opposition to a U.S. proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza and said Israel should pay for the territory's reconstruction. "We do not consider the proposal to exile the Palestinians from the lands they have lived in for thousands of years as something to be taken seriously,' Erdogan said. Erdogan and his wife, First Lady Emine Erdogan, arrived in Jakarta late Tuesday and was welcomed by Subianto at Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport in a light rain. Erdogan rode with Subianto in a motorcade to his hotel. Indonesia and Turkey have built an increasingly close relationship in recent years, and the two leaders previously met in Ankara last July when Subianto was still president-elect and defense minister. Subianto pledged to "elevate defense cooperation and other strategic fields for mutual benefit.' The two countries signed a defense cooperation agreement in 2010, under which Indonesia's state-run arms producer Pindad and Turkey's FNSS jointly developed a new model of medium tank. In 2023, the two countries inked a plan of action for joint military exercises and defense industry cooperation. In addition to Indonesia, Turkey has HLSCC cooperation forums with 21 other countries, including Pakistan. Turkey and Indonesia plan to sign agreements on trade, investment, education and technology during Erdogan's visit. Erdogan will head on to Pakistan on Wednesday, where he and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address the Pakistan-Turkey Business and Investment Forum and attend another HSLCC meeting.
