Kaden Honeycutt To Replace An Injured Stewart Friesen
Top Nascar prospect Kaden Honeycutt is switching teams after being released from his duties at Niece Motorsports. Honeycutt, who has been contending for wins throughout the 2025 Nascar Craftsman Truck Series season, parted ways with the team he's been competing for since parts of 2023. Honeycutt will replace Stewart Friesen in the Halmar Friesen Racing No. 52 truck, which has already qualified for the playoffs via Friesen's Michigan win. However, Friesen was severely injured in an accident during the Super DIRTcar Series race at Canada's Autodrome Drummond last weekend. He will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing numerous surgeries in New York. 'While I continue to recover, it was important for us to put someone in our truck that can help us compete at the highest level,' Friesen said. 'I know Kaden will deliver strong performance in our truck and allow us to continue to run for the owner's championship.' Friesen, a well-known dirt track racer, has been competing in the Truck Series full time since 2017. Honeycutt will not race for the team this weekend at Watkins Glen International, as Cup Series driver and 2017 Truck Series champion Christopher Bell will take the helm. 'It's an honor to be able to fill in for Stewart for the rest of the season and help give his team a chance at the owner's championship, which they earned. I'm excited to compete in contending, race-winning equipment as I pursue a title this season,' Honeycutt said. 'We are going to work hard to have a solid final eight races of the season and continue to deliver great results for Stewart, his family and this organization.' The move is a major one for Honeycutt, who goes from the Chevrolet development program to the crowded Toyota pipeline. It is likely he will continue to compete in the Truck Series next year, with rumors he will join Tricon Garage. Honeycutt is currently eighth on the playoff grid and will need a waiver if he qualifies for the postseason.

Just a couple of weeks ago, this headline wouldn't have made any sense, and yet, it is happening. When Stewart Friesen was seriously injured in a dirt modified crash, the No. 52 Halmar-Friesen Racing Toyota needed to find a replacement driver as the team is set to take part in the championship playoffs. Enter Kaden Honeycutt, who was abruptly let go from his full-time ride at Niece Motorsports this week for signing with a rival team and manufacturer for 2026 (believed to be TRICON and Toyota). Honeycutt is also bound for playoffs, sitting 73 points above the cut-line. While Christopher Bell will drive the No. 52 at Watkins Glen, Halmar-Friesen has announced a new partnership with Honeycutt for the rest of the 2025 season. Both will be be able to fight for the championship as a duo after one lost its driver and the other lost their ride. NASCAR Driver Stewart Friesen Injured in Horrific Dirt Crash
NASCAR Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen is in the hospital after a wild crash during a dirt race in Quebec last night. The incident happened during the Super DIRTcar Series feature at Autodrome Drummond. Friesen's car flipped, caught fire and was hit again after landing back on the track. The crash happened between turns 3 and 4 when Friesen's #44 car hit the tire barrier at full speed. The impact sent the car over the wall and landed upside down on fire. As the field tried to avoid the wreck another car hit Friesen's car. Safety crews were quick to respond and the race was red flagged as Friesen was taken to the hospital. He'll need surgery. CT scans cleared him of any head, neck or spine damage but the pelvic injury is an 'open book' fracture meaning the break is in multiple places. He's stable and has been moved to a bigger hospital for surgery and further care. Friesen had already locked himself into the NASCAR Truck Series Playoffs with a win earlier this season at Michigan but his injuries now put his postseason in jeopardy. Only two races left before the playoffs start on August 30 at Darlington. NASCAR does allow medical waivers in some cases but there's no word yet from Halmar Friesen Racing on what the plan will be going forward. Other drivers involved in the crash were okay. Also, officials at the scene said Stewart Friesen was awake and talking to medics after the wreck. Fans and fellow drivers have since been sending out support for the Ontario native who is well respected on both dirt and pavement. More to come once Friesen has surgery and starts his recovery. For now his focus is on healing while his team figures out what to do for the rest of the NASCAR season. Stewart Friesen wins thrilling triple-OT Truck Series race in Michigan
June 7 - Stewart Friesen hoisted his first trophy of the season in Saturday afternoon's triple overtime DQS Solutions & Staffing 250 at Michigan International Speedway - a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race that didn't want to end, ultimately featuring 24 extra laps. The victory snapped a 72-race winless streak for the popular Canadian driver Friesen who had not been among the race's frontrunners all day but was where he needed to be when it counted, collecting his first trophy since winning at Texas Motor Speedway back in 2022. His No. 52 Halmar Friesen Racing Toyota beat Grant Enfinger's Chevy by a slight .111-second - both drivers benefitting from a rash of late-race caution flags. With most drivers opting for the outside row on the final restart, Friesen was able to move up and take that inside position on the front row alongside Enfinger. The two of them dueled it out over the next two overtime laps to settle the trophy. Neither had a win coming into the race. "I don't know what to say, thank you to Chris Halmer and all these sponsors and all these race fans, I know there's a lot of Canadians and a lot of Americans,'' Friesen said as the crowd began a huge roar of approval for the 41-year-old Ontario native as he celebrated his fourth career win. While not a victory, the runner-up effort equaled a season-best (also at Las Vegas) for Enfinger and the CR7 Motorsports team. "I don't know,'' he said when asked if there was anything he possibly could have done differently. "We weren't as good as we thought we were in practice, but man, Jeff kept swinging stuff at it and got gutsy with both calls, the call to stay out and the call to come in. ... Feel like all in all, we executed to the best of our ability, but it just wasn't meant to be.'' ThorSport Racing's Luke Fenhaus, who won his first career pole position for the race, finished third, followed by his teammate, two-time series champion Ben Rhodes and Spire Motorsports' Corey LaJoie making only his sixth truck series start. The opening two stages of the event went caution-free except for the stage breaks, but the final stage featured seven caution flags. The overtime periods put a dramatic spin on the win. A big wreck on a restart with five laps remaining eliminated several of the day's strongest competitors - Ross Chastain, who was leading at the time and championship leader Corey Heim, who swept both stages and led 29 laps running top five most of the day. It all created a seemingly dream scenario for another of the race's best - NASCAR Cup Series regular and Michigan native, Carson Hocevar, who was trying to win his first national series race at his home track. He survived much of the late race melee only to get a penalty following the second overtime green flag for pulling out of line too early on the restart. He led a race-high 56 laps but ultimately finished 11th. Matt Crafton, Jake Garcia, Chandler Smith, rookie Andres Perez De Lara and Layne Riggs rounded out the top-10 in the first NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at the track since 2020. Actor Frankie Muniz finished 14th - his best finish since a 10th place in the Daytona season-opener. Despite his 18th place finish, Heim stretched out his championship lead and now holds a 133-point advantage over Chandler Smith. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series takes a week off while the NASCAR Xfinity and Cup Series race in Mexico City next weekend. The trucks resume competition on June 20 in the Miller Tech Battery 200 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (5 p.m. ET, FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). Heim is the defending race winner.
