All of West Virginia under Air Quality Alert Thursday
CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — Smoke from wildfires in Canada prompted an Air Quality Alert across West Virginia Thursday.
The alert was issued by the National Weather Service early Thursday afternoon and will remain in effect until 10 p.m. As of 2:30 p.m., most of West Virginia and most of the Northeast had moderate air quality conditions, which can impact unusually sensitive groups.
According to the alert, some areas of West Virginia may experience a period where air quality dips down to the 'orange' level, which is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. No surrounding states have similar alerts.

Parts of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin were experiencing unhealthy air quality conditions, but only some parts of Canada were seeing air quality in the very unhealthy or hazardous range because of the smoke.
The biggest impact West Virginia has seen from the smoke this week is a haze that has lingered across the Mountain State for a few days.
