Farah Khan Says Sheila Ki Jawani With Katrina Kaif Was ‘Low-Budget Masterpiece'
Last Updated: With Farah Khan's sharp choreography and Katrina Kaif's jaw-dropping performance, Sheila Ki Jawani set a benchmark for Bollywood dance numbers. Farah Khan is celebrated for delivering Bollywood hits—from Om Shanti Om to Happy New Year. But beyond her directorial skills, she has choreographed some of the most iconic dance numbers that still rule the dance floors. From the timeless Chaiyya Chaiyya to the high-energy Sheila Ki Jawani, her signature hook steps continue to captivate audiences. Alongside her long and successful journey in Bollywood, Farah Khan is now winning hearts with her YouTube series. In each episode, she visits a celebrity's home, engages in candid conversations, gives a sneak peek into their personal space and shares a fun cooking session. In her latest episode, Farah opened up about Sheila Ki Jawani, calling it one of the biggest hits of her career. She also revealed that the song was, surprisingly, the 'cheapest" she has ever choreographed. Farah shared, 'My cheapest song is Sheila Ki Jawani. If you watch the song, there was no set, just ten dancers and we wrapped up the shoot in three and a half hours. It's the cheapest song I've ever done — and also one of the biggest hits of my career, among my top three or four songs." With upbeat music composed by the Vishal-Shekhar duo and Sunidhi Chauhan's powerful vocals, the song gained instant popularity. And Katrina Kaif's bold screen presence, paired with Farah's sharp choreography, made Sheila Ki Jawani an unforgettable dance number from Tees Maar Khan. Directed by Farah Khan, the comedy film starred Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. Farah even won the Filmfare Award for Best Choreography for the song. Earlier, in an interview with Zee News, Katrina Kaif had also opened up about her experience with Sheila Ki Jawani. She said, 'It was one of the raunchiest songs I have ever shot." She added, 'It was a learning experience for me. I don't take the song being called an item number as an offence. There is exposure in the song, but it's more about attitude and I was specific about that." Speaking about her character in the film, Katrina said, 'In the movie, Akshay plays the role of a conman and I play his love interest, a wannabe actress called Anya. She signs a B-grade film in which she is called Sheila." With Farah Khan's sharp choreography and Katrina Kaif's jaw-dropping performance, Sheila Ki Jawani set a benchmark for Bollywood dance numbers. Its popularity even prompted comparisons with Munni Badnaam Hui from Dabangg (2010). First Published:

Kush Shah , best known for playing Goli, the son of Dr. Haathi in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah , stepped away from the show last year to pursue higher studies in the USA. His departure was an emotional one, with his co-stars getting teary-eyed on his final day of shooting. Recently, during an appearance on the Just Kidding with Sid podcast, Kush reminisced about one of his favorite behind-the-scenes moments from the show. I have been lucky to have worked with Shah Rukh Khan. I have been with him thrice and I've worked with other stars also when they visited our show. Shah Rukh was on our set for 12 hours and I'm not kidding. Koi nahi raha itna 12 ghanta, he was on the set. Around 4 am we all were very hungry and Shah Rukh ordered idli from a random Anna. He sent his driver to get idli from local Anna. We sat together and idli and vada. That was my best and crazy memory." He further revealed how they watched KRK's IPL match in Shah Rukh's vanity, "In fact, we sat in his vanity van and watched the KKR match toh ye amazing cheez hai na yaar. I mean who does this. Nothing beats that. The experience was amazing, he came on the show for Happy New Year, Chennai Express and Dilwale. Mazee aagaye." Kush, who quit the show last year after working for 16 years, shared he was never affected by Bollywood celebrities' stardom but he was in awe of SRK's aura. He went on to praise the Jawan actor for his dedication, he revealed, "Whenever celebrities came on the show, I used to have a blast because I was never starstruck. I used to always feel okay, fine they are actors and I never cared. But SRK's aura was very different. He is so diligent at what he does. He knows his lines, your lines and everything that is going to happen in the script. 30 page ki script hai unko ratta hai (he would memorise the entire script). It was a great experience."
