Rare Satavahana, Neolithic artefacts discovered in Kondapaka
Hyderabad: Members of the Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam have unearthed three Neolithic stone axes and a rare terracotta torso from the Satavahana period at the Patigadda mound in Kondapaka village in Siddipet district. The terracotta figure, believed to represent a royal figure wearing a breastplate, offers a rare glimpse into early Telangana's material culture. These latest finds add to a growing list of discoveries from the same site, which has previously yielded colourful glass beads, a carved ivory dice, a double-edged Neolithic axe, terracotta figurine fragments, and iron slag—indicating the site's long-standing archaeological significance. Call for scientific excavation Sriramoju Haragopal, convenor of the Brundam, siad that the mound is part of a larger historical landscape, with layers spanning the prehistoric era to the Rashtrakuta and Kakatiya periods. "These discoveries are not isolated. They suggest an uninterrupted human presence and an evolving cultural footprint over several centuries," he said. Haragopal urged the Telangana heritage department to initiate a comprehensive and scientific excavation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Alerta: Você tem zumbido no ouvido? The site holds crucial evidence of Telangana's deep and layered past, and must be preserved through expert exploration," he added. The Brundam emphasised that such grassroots discoveries should shape official heritage conservation strategies, especially in archaeologically rich zones like Siddipet.

State may not stop after eradicating Maoists, says Civil rights activist Prof G Haragopal
HYDERABAD: Civil rights activist Prof G Haragopal, a member of the Peace Dialogue Committee that recently urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to initiate talks with the banned CPI (Maoist), expressed serious concern over the Union government's use of force in eliminating top Maoist leader Nambala Keshava Rao and the subsequent celebration of the act. Speaking to TNIE, Haragopal said the questions raised by the Maoist movement cannot be answered through encounters. 'Once the state becomes accustomed to using firearms, it may not stop even after 'eradicating' the Maoist party, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah put it. The same force can then be turned against the Opposition, dissenters and civil society,' he warned. Haragopal said there was an opportunity to arrest Keshava Rao, just as the founder of the movement, Kondapalli Seetharamaiah, was arrested and not killed. 'The government should have treated him as the leader of a political outfit. But instead, they vowed to 'eradicate' them, and this killing is part of that approach. Once the state normalises eliminating opponents, the rule of law and constitutional democracy will be its casualties,' he said.

UAPA case against Haragopal & five others likely to be dropped
Hyderabad: Civil rights activists have urged chief minister A Revanth Reddy to review the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) cases registered during the BRS tenure. A week after the meeting, the govt has reportedly decided to drop the UAPA case against former University of Hyderabad (UoH) Professor G Haragopal and five others registered in 2022. The activists, during their recent meeting with the CM, said the Mulugu police have not discharged Professor Haragopal despite the then CM K Chandrasekhar Rao directing them to withdraw the case. Ironically, police had booked the UAPA case against Bombay high court judge (Retd) H Suresh, who passed away in 2020, in 2022, nearly two years after his death. The discussion on UAPA came in the backdrop of Peace Talks Committee, led by Haragopal, appealed to Revanth Reddy to facilitate a dialogue between the Centre and CPI (Maoist). It was the second time after Congress formed the govt, the rights activists made the representation about the UAPA cases. The rights activists feel that 200 members, including human rights activists and writers, were "unfairly" booked in 13 cases registered. They requested that cases be withdrawn against them. Except in one case, in all the remaining ones, police have not filed chargesheets till date. In June 2023, a controversy broke out after it came to light that the Tadvai police in Mulugu district had surreptitiously registered a case in Aug 2022 against 152 members, including Haragopal, ex-judge H Suresh, human rights activist Sudha Bharadwaj accusing them of having links with Maoists and charged them under UAPA. "Though KCR directed police to withdraw case against Haragopal and five others, police, till date, did not discharge the six persons. It was informed to CM Revanth Reddy too," Forum Against Repression-Telangana co-convenor K Ravi Chander told TOI. After the meeting, the district police were directed to close the case. "Communication was given to go through the case details and and close the case. The paper work is being started to inform the concerned court in Mulugu," sources told TOI.
