Pakistan players gain big in ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings
Dubai, June 4 (UNI) Mohammad Haris leads a bunch of Pakistan players who have gained big in the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings after their team blanked Bangladesh 3-0 in a home series this past week. Haris has attained a career-best 30th position in the batting rankings after emerging as the top scorer with an aggregate of 179 runs for which he was named the Player of the Series. The 24-year-old, who blitzed an unbeaten 107 in the third ODI in Lahore with eight fours and seven sixes, has shot up 210 places. Hasan Nawaz is another one to make rapid progress in the batting rankings, his 121 runs lifting him 57 places to joint-45th while Saim Ayub has advanced four places to 61st. In the bowling rankings, Abbas Afridi has progressed 18 places to joint-19th while leg-spinners Shadab Khan and Abrar Ahmed are joint-59th after proceeding 24 and 45 places, respectively. Bangladesh's Tanzid Hasan, the top-scorer for Bangladesh with 106 runs in the series, has moved up 28 places to 53rd and Jakar Ali has gone from 71st to 68th. The ODI Rankings are headlined by England batters after a 3-0 series whitewash of the West Indies at home. Joe Root's series-topping 266 runs that included an unbeaten 166 in the second match in Cardiff, have helped him move up 14 places to 24th while Ben Ducket (up three places to 17th) and Harry Brook (up 15 places to 48th) have gained from their three-figure aggregates. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid is up four places to 15th in the bowling rankings after finishing with nine wickets in the series while seam bowler Saqib Mahmood's eight wickets lift him 82 places to 48th. For the West Indies, Keacy Carty continues his fine run to move up to a career-best 12th position after scoring 154 runs in the series including a century in Cardiff. His tally of 53 fours and 21 sixes across the two T20 tournaments proved his boundary-hitting capability, striking a boundary every 4.5 balls. On Sunday night, Haris became the first non-opener and fifth Pakistan batter to register a T20I century marking a turning point in his Pakistan career. Hasan Nawaz banked on the 2024-25 domestic cricket season to stage an HBL PSL comeback and earn the coveted Pakistan cap. Hasan's first appearance in the career-defining 2024-25 domestic season began with two appearances for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) in semi-final and final of President's Cup Grade-I where he scored 46 off 43 (4x4s, 3x6s) and 40 off 50 (2x4s, 2x6s), respectively. In the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25 in October and November he accumulated 273 runs for Islamabad Region in five outings. It also included a career-best 169 where he spent 406 minutes on the crease against Larkana Region striking 21 fours and one six as only one other batter crossed 50-run mark from his side. The Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup in December saw Hasan delivering consistently for Nurpur Lions and stamp his authority, finishing as the second-leading run-scorer with 312 runs in nine outings with the help of two half-centuries. He struck 30 fours and 17 sixes, displaying his power-hitting skills, and subsequently became Quetta Gladiators' Emerging category pick in the HBL PSL X draft on 13 January. Hasan was also part of the 16-day Pakistan Strike Force camp at the National Cricket Academy in January, under the tutelage of former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, where a total of 25 emerging and top-performing domestic batters were invited to hone their hard-hitting skills. Hasan took the HBL PSL X by storm with his middle-order heroics, managing 399 runs in 12 matches with one century and three half-centuries striking at 162 – the second-highest among eight batters to score over 300 runs in the season. The 22-year-old was not only declared player of the tournament for his high-pressure knocks but was also named Best Batter, plotting a remarkable comeback after 28 runs in three appearances for Islamabad United in 2023. While the 2024-25 season was highly fruitful for Hasan, it is important to note that he also made the most of opportunities in the previous season playing non-first-class Hanif Mohammad Trophy and 50-over Hanif Mohammad Cup (non-List A) for Islamabad Region. In the four-day tournament in September and October 2023, he topped the run-charts with 530 runs in seven matches at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 72.11 – the best among the top 20 batters. Haris hits maiden hundred as Pakistan whitewash Bangladesh
LAHORE - Mohammad Haris hit a swashbuckling maiden international century to guide Pakistan to a 3-0 clean sweep of Bangladesh with a seven-wicket win in the third and final Twenty20 international in Lahore on Sunday. Haris, playing in his 17th T20I, carted seven sixes and eight fours in his 107 off just 46 balls as Pakistan chased down a challenging 197-run target in 17.2 overs for their first home T20 international series win in three-and-a-half years. Pakistan won the first two matches by 37 and 57 runs at the same venue. "It's a massive win," said Pakistan captain Salman Agha. "I am very happy the way the boys played. The great thing is we managed to play the brand of cricket we wanted to play and we did well in every game." Bangladesh skipper Litton Das did not hide his disappointment at losing the series 3-0. "We did bat well in this game but didn't bowl and field well," said Litton. "Losing a series is always disappointing." Parvez Hossain smashed four sixes and seven fours in his solid 34-ball 66 to lift Bangladesh to 196-6 in their 20 overs. Pakistan lost Sahibzada Farhan for one in the first over but Haris, whose hundred came up off 45 balls, added 92 for the second wicket with Saim Ayub and an unbroken 60 for the fourth with Salman Agha who made 15 not out. Ayub hit four sixes and two fours in his 29-ball 45 while Hasan Nawaz scored 13-ball 26 as the home batsmen enthralled a near-capacity 30,000 crowd at Gaddafi Stadium. Earlier, Parvez shared a 110-run opening stand with Tanzid Hasan after the tourists were sent in to bat. The Parvez-Tanzid stand gave Bangladesh an ideal start for their highest T20 total against Pakistan, beating the 175-6 they made against them at Pallekele in 2012. Towhid Hridoy, who scored 25 from 18 balls with a six and two boundaries, then added 49 for the third wicket with Litton who made 22.
