Punter lands life-changing sum after placing £6 bet on four horses
A lucky punter turned a £6 bet into a cool £23,715.15 after landing the touch of a lifetime over the weekend. William Hill are reeling after a £6 each-way four-fold on Saturday's action from Haydock emptied their pockets. The bet got off to the perfect start when Danny Tudhope steered 6/1 shot Stressfree to win the opening race by a neck. This was quickly followed by Kodi Lion scoring at 7/1 to make it two from two for the punter. There was then a couple of hours' wait before the brilliantly-named Oolong Poobong obliged at odds of 6/1 in the 4.08 race. The punter had taken 6/1 about Organ in the finale when placing the bet, but having opted in to William Hill's Best Odds Guaranteed concession, they received 9/1 instead, which saw their winnings boosted by £7,097.82 when the horse fully won the final leg of the bet. William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: 'There's nothing like turning £12 into five figures after landing a multiple on a Saturday afternoon's racing, and this punter has done just that in style. All four picks went in without a hiccup at Haydock and they've walked away with a cracking payout of £23,715.15. 'And that's not all either, as thanks to having opted in to William Hill's Best Odds Guaranteed concession, the punter received a bigger price on their final pick than they'd taken when placing the bet, increasing their winnings by more than £7,000! It just goes to show what Best Odds Guaranteed can do and we take our hats off to this punter for landing this memorable bet.'

Racing punter wins massive sum from ‘stunning' £12 bet as beaten bookies say ‘there's nothing like it'
A RACING punter hit the bookmakers for a five-figure payday after a 'memorable' Saturday bet. It can be pretty difficult to land even one winner on the Flat action at this time of year. 2 But it all came together for this William Hill bettor, who would land a quite remarkable four-fold across the action from Haydock. Better yet, the decision to opt for Best Odds Guaranteed saw their returns increase by nearly 50% and enough for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday from just a £6 each-way (£12 total) punt. However it very nearly was all over in the first, with Stressfree for Danny Tudhope and David O'Meara getting up just in time in the opener. The 6/1 shot ran on well and needed every yard of the 1m4f contest to get up in the dying strides and deny Shane Foley aboard Kildare Legend. The perfect start for this bettor but given the nature of the victory and this one being the joint-shortest odds of the four selections, the confidence probably wasn't sky high. That will have changed just over half an hour later when Kodi Lion - picked at 7/1 and went off 5/1 - came home in front over 6f to make it two from two in the bet. The Mick Appleby runner was in a group of four charging down the near side, with the front three all coming from that group, racing against a group of 12 on the opposite side of the track. 2 Those tactics worked a treat as Kodi Lion took it up with over a furlong to go and stayed on well to win by a length. An anxious wait until the 4.08 when the excellently named Oolong Poobong was the pick at 6/1 in the 11-runner contest. Over the Haydock seven furlongs, Connor Beasley's ride made headway 3f from home and looked to be in a battle with favourite Arabian Leopard. Jamie Spencer's charge then bumped into another runner and was briefly outpaced, allowing Oolong Poobong to scoot ahead with 2f to go and stayed on well as Arabian Leopard rallied to score by two lengths. It all came down to the finale, with Organ drifting out to 9/1 before the off, with nine runners at the 1m start. William Buick was aboard the 11/10 favourite and attracted all the support and even looked like going the best with two furlongs to go. But after wandering around with one furlong remaining, Organ - who just nosed in front when being pushed along - edged right heading into the closing stages but was plugging on. Hot Cash at 17/2 was also staying on alongside the favourite but both would be denied by Harry Davies and Organ, who rounded off the four runner bet in style to win by half a length. With the drifts in price and best odds on offer, the punter would scoop a monster £23,715.15 in winnings - which included £7,097.82 extra from BOG. Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: 'There's nothing like turning £12 into five figures after landing a multiple on a Saturday afternoon's racing, and this punter has done just that in style. "All four picks went in without a hiccup at Haydock and they've walked away with a cracking payout of £23,715.15. 'And that's not all either, as thanks to having opted in to William Hill's Best Odds Guaranteed concession, the punter received a bigger price on their final pick than they'd taken when placing the bet, increasing their winnings by more than £7,000! "It just goes to show what Best Odds Guaranteed can do and we take our hats off to this punter for landing this memorable bet.' Horse racing tips: ‘He can fly home with a big weight allowance' – Templegate's 6-1 NAP and one ‘at a huge price'
TEMPLEGATE tackles Saturday's action confident of building the bank for Epsom next week. Back a horse by clicking their odds below. LOOM (York 2.40, nap) Richard Fahey's three-year-old gets a hefty weight allowance from his older rivals and he's already shown enough to win this. After a promising comeback fifth at Newmarket last month, he found a lot more when second here in a big field last time. He might have won had he been a bit closer to the pace before flying home. This is his sixth start so he's still learning and there's more to come. ESTRANGE (2.58 Haydock, nb) This filly to follow finished last season with a smooth Listed success at Doncaster over 1m2f. She is from the family of St Leger winner Logician so will relish this stiffer test of stamina. She can improve for David O'Meara on just her fourth racecourse outing. WITCH HUNTER (2.10 Chester, treble) Looks a massive price after a good effort at Ascot last time. He has copped a handy draw in stall two and has had a nudge down the weights. He'll be right there for Richard Hannon. YORK 2.40 LOOM ran a cracker here two weeks ago when second in a big field handicap. That was just his second run of the campaign and he should take another step forward for it. His draw in stall three should be ideal and he's best over this trip. JM Jungle has a strong record at York and was second here earlier this month in good company. The Quinn yard is in decent form and he'll be right there again. Duran got the job done nicely at Haydock over this trip last time and a 4lb rise keeps him right in the hunt. Kodiac Thriller got the job done nicely when scooting in over this distance at Thirsk 14 days ago. An 8lb rise in and hike in grade gives him more to do but he's capable of better. Bond Chairman could be a big price on debut for a new yard. He's been out of sorts for a while so has tumbled to 11lb below his last winning mark and this distance is ideal. 3.15 TERM OF ENDEARMENT stormed home to win this last year and can repeat the feat having left Henry De Bromhead for William Haggas. Her return in Dubai was always going to be a warm-up, especially over a trip that stretches her a little. She'll love getting back over 1m6f at an ideal track on ground that suits. Scenic shaped with promise on return at Goodwood last time and looks the main danger. All her best form has come over 1m4f so far but she was staying on strongly last time and should see this out in decent conditions. Sueno was behind her last time having just her third start. She was coming back from a long break so could easily close the gap especially with Ryan Moore in the saddle. Divina Grace was a well-beaten third in a Newmarket Group 2 latest and needs to prove her stamina for this longer distance. HAYDOCK 1.48 FINE INTERVIEW has a run under his belt thanks to a neck third in a big field at Donny in March. He finished last season with an impressive distance win on Town Moor and has more to come. He will enjoy a little bit of juice in the ground and William Buick can steer him home. Durham Castle will go very close if fit for this comeback run. He scored on the sand at Southwell before winning easily on handicap debut at Goodwood in September. He's up 9lb for that smooth success over this trip but he looks capable of improving past that with the Crisford training ream in decent form. Tinto finished strongly when beaten on the nod over 5f at Thirsk earlier this month. He shapes as though going back up in trip will help. Oisin Murphy getting back on board is a plus for King's Lynn who is on the downgrade but still has enough quality to figure. Kodi Lion has been second in good company at Ascot and Donny heading here and likes this trip. He could still be improving. Evergreen Dakota Gold scored at Ripon last time and likes it here. He has place claims up 3lb. 2.23 SHAGRAAN could be overpriced given how well he's been running in hot handicaps. He was in a blanket finish at Doncaster before running another cracker in a big field at York 16 days ago. He has winning form over course and distance and doesn't mind dead ground. Jasour is interesting coming back from a long break. He was third in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at last year's Royal Ascot so has class. This is his easiest race for a long time on paper and he's gone well fresh before. No Half Measures looked rusty on comeback at Newmarket earlier this month. He has some smart form over this trip and should build on that return effort. Leovanni was a classy two-year-old and won the Group 2 Queen Mary which is top form. She doesn't want more rain as her Cheveley Park effort on soft ground was her worst of the season. Rage Of Bamby will be sharper for her comeback struggle at York last time but her best efforts have come over further. Seven Questions also needed his comeback at HQ and has run well here before. 2.58 ESTRANGE finished last season with an impressive Listed win over 1m2f at Doncaster on soft ground. She gives the stronger impression that this step up in trip will bring more improvement and there should be a little bit of juice in the ground which she likes. Shaha took a big step up when moving up to this distance at Goodwood on comeback earlier this month. She had plenty left in the tank crossing the line and her fitness is assured. Beautiful Love has her sights lowered slightly after a well-beaten second at York last time. She isn't screaming out for this longer trip but should see it out. She needs a little step up to get her head back in front. The rest need to improve a bundle with Chorus looking the pick despite being no match for Shaha last time out. She is proven over this distance and may improve for that run. 3.33 ALYANAABI looked a different horse on his first run since being gelded here last time. He stormed home over course and distance and looks the type to improve as a four-year-old. Kinross looks the big danger on comeback. He won this way back in 2021 and wasn't disgraced in Group 1s last season. He may not be the force he was but he still has enough to figure. Audience landed Group 2 honours at Glorious Goodwood last year before not enjoying himself dropped to 6f. He is back over his ideal trip here and had a run in Dubai last month so should be fit. His best form would take him close. Spycatcher landed a cosy win at Doncaster on comeback in March and has held his own at this level before. Robin Goodfellow's racing tips: Best bets for Saturday, May 31
Mail Sport's racing expert Robin Goodfellow delivers his tips for Saturday's Haydock, Chester, York, Southwell, Stratford and Lingfield. The third-placed finish of LIEBER POWER (NB) at Newmarket on his last run has received multiple form boosts and he looks overpriced in the 1.13pm at Haydock. The winner of that race, El Cordobes, was third in a Group Three on his next start, while the second and fourth both won their next races. Lieber Power runs here off a 1lb lower mark. In the 2.10pm at Chester, NEVER SO BRAVE (NAP) makes his reappearance at the same track where he beat the now 112-rated Witness Stand by two lengths in receipt of 3lbs. Gelded since his last run and now making his stable debut for Andrew Balding, he should prove too good off 101 from stall six. WIZARD OF ODDS BY CHRIS BAKER 1.48 HAYDOCK: KODI LION is an improving sprinter who went close on his last two starts. Positive tactics from his high draw could see him land a third career win. 2.40 YORK: JM JUNGLE (nap), who has a good record at York, has chased home American Affair in both starts this season — form boosted when that horse ran well in a Group Two last week. 3.33 HAYDOCK: AUDIENCE, last season's Lockinge and Lennox Stakes winner, can take advantage of a drop in class and resume winning ways. The step back up to seven furlongs will also be in his favour. Horse racing tips: Saturday, May 31 – Chester, Haydock and York
This is not the biggest day's racing in the calendar – there's a little lull ahead of the Derby at Epsom on June 7 – but there are still seven races on ITV (1.30-4pm) from Chester, Haydock and York, including three Group races. Our in-house expert tipster Ron Wood, fresh from a 9/4 winning nap at Sandown on Thursday, has a selection for all of them. There are also 11 races on ITV on Sunday, from Chelmsford and Nottingham, and you can find tips for each of those as well here. Ron Wood's selections: NAP: Term Of Endearment (3.15, York) @ 11/4 with Betfred ⭐⭐⭐ Next best: Cerulean Bay (2.10, Chester) @ 16/1 with Betfred ⭐⭐⭐ Others: Cajetan (1.48, Haydock) @ 33/1 with Betfred ⭐⭐ Jasour (2.23, Haydock) @ 100/30 with Betfred ⭐⭐⭐ Duran (2.40, York) @ 5/1 with Betfred ⭐⭐ Estrange (2.58, Haydock) @ 2/1 with Betfred ⭐⭐ Kikkuli (3.33, Haydock) @ 14/1 with Betfred ⭐⭐ Odds provided by Betfred and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (max 5). If you already have a Betfred account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use for this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. 1.48, Haydock – Class 3 handicap (6f) This big-field sprint handicap kicks things off on ITV and a chance is taken on CAJETAN. He needs to bounce back from a poor run last time but he got upset in the stalls beforehand, so that performance can be excused. But he'll have to be better behaved now. The suitability of the surface is also a factor as he has shown his best form on the all-weather, but he hasn't had many chances on turf and is handily weighted on his best. 2.10, Chester – Class 2 handicap (7f) There's still more to come from CERULEAN BAY, who won three 7f handicaps last year and went off 7/2 favourite for a competitive 17-runner Leopardstown handicap in September, albeit finishing just outside the places. He has been below form in two starts this term, but he probably needed his reappearance, and a mile on quick ground was not ideal for him at York on his latest start. All three of last season's wins came on sharp left-handed tracks, which he gets now, and from stall 1 he can go the shortest way round. 2.23, Haydock – Achilles Stakes (Listed, 5f) A breathing operation, a drop in class and being first time out this season could do the trick for JASOUR, who won an Ascot Group 3 on his reappearance last year, proving his effectiveness when fresh. He has been highly strung, often not helping himself at the start and being headstrong, but he ran in four straight Group 1s after that Group 3 victory, including finishing third in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, so this is a significant class drop, and the speed test of this race will suit him. 2.40, York – Class 2 handicap (5f) Another big-field sprint contest and it could be worth sticking with DURAN, who was a selection on these pages when winning at Haydock last week. By Invincible Spirit out of Dolma, Duran is a well-bred competitor on the up, and he won twice at York last season. 2.58, Haydock – Lester Piggott Fillies' Stakes (Group 3, 1m 4f) Beautiful Love sets the standard but she was beaten 12 lengths at York last time, albeit by a good filly in a Group 2, and she has a 3lb penalty. Instead, preference is for ESTRANGE. This runner won two of her three starts last year, including a Doncaster Listed race, and she has the potential for further progress this term now up in trip. 3.15, York – Bronte Cup Fillies' Stakes (Group 3, 1m 6f) TERM OF ENDEARMENT found the two-mile Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup beyond her when reappearing at Meydan in March, but this is a good opportunity for the William Haggas-trained mare. She won three Group races when with Henry de Bromhead, most notably this event last year, and she is unpenalised while still giving the impression she has more to give, dropping back in trip and returning to fillies-only company. Her new connections paid 1,300,000 guineas for her in December. 3.33, Haydock – John of Gaunt Stakes (Group 3, 7f) There may still be better to come from KIKKULI, a Kingman half-brother to the great Frankel. He has not gone on from last season's close second in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, most recently finishing fourth behind Alyanaabi in a Haydock Listed race. However, the winner that day, whom he faces again, had the run of the race. Kikkuli should be better for the outing and this looks like being contested at a better pace. Being reunited with Oisin Murphy, who rode him in the Jersey, is a positive.
