Who wrote 'Brown Rang'? Badshah rekindles feud with Honey Singh using just one word
Indian rapper
Badshah
has reignited a long-standing feud in the country's hip-hop scene, asserting authorship over the widely celebrated 2011 hit
Brown Rang
, popularly credited to Yo Yo
Honey Singh
. The spark? A cryptic yet loaded one-word reply—"Credits"—in response to a fan post on social media. The post, which showcased Honey Singh's dramatic physical transformation, jokingly questioned what he had eaten. Badshah's sharp reply not only broke the internet but also reopened the lid on one of Indian rap's most iconic but fractured partnerships.
The exchange turned increasingly pointed when another user claimed Singh had written Brown Rang. Badshah clapped back, saying, 'Tere support ke liye nahi kar raha main ye,' firmly denying that his revelations were for public sympathy or attention.

'He Had the Beat, I Had the Words'
Adding depth to his one-word jab, Badshah has previously revealed, including in various 2024 interviews, that Brown Rang was written entirely by him. According to his account, Honey Singh had invited him to mix a track. Singh had the beat ready, but the lyrics, Badshah claims, were 'weird.' Seizing the opportunity, he rewrote the entire song—lyrics that would soon become one of the most memorable tracks in
desi hip-hop
history.

Interestingly, Brown Rang wasn't the only hit Badshah says he ghostwrote. He also claims authorship of the rap segment in
Angrezi Beat
, another Honey Singh anthem.
Where It All Began
Before they were rivals, Badshah and Honey Singh were bandmates in the hip-hop collective Mafia Mundeer—a group that also included Raftaar, Ikka, and Lil Golu. The early 2010s saw them dominate the underground circuit with hits like Khol Botal, Begani Naar Buri, and Delhi Ke Deewane. But what began as musical brotherhood soon turned sour.

Disputes over creative credits, control, and alleged unfair contract practices led to the group's dissolution. Badshah has not minced words in past interviews, calling Honey Singh 'self-centred' and accusing him of making fellow artists sign blank contracts.
Old Grudges in New Reels
In a surprising twist earlier this year, Badshah attempted to bury the hatchet during a live concert in Dehradun. Referring to Singh, he told the crowd, 'He's a grudge I want to leave behind.' The sentiment, though brief, gave fans hope for reconciliation.
But his latest comments suggest the wounds haven't healed. While Badshah insists his statements aren't made for applause, the digital stage has become a new battleground—where every 'like,' share, or repost amplifies a decade-old rift.
