Attempted rape victim 'confused' in 999 call

A 999 call from a woman who a man allegedly posing as an "unofficial Uber" driver attempted to rape has been played in court. Graham Head, of Pevensey in East Sussex, is alleged to have had latex gloves, condoms, Viagra tablets and a balaclava in his silver Mercedes when he was arrested in November 2022. The 68-year-old is accused of kidnapping, sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a 25-year-old woman after picking her up in Brighton city centre. The woman died in December 2024. He denies the charges, stating that he offered the woman a lift home but did not touch her, jurors at Lewes Crown Court were told. The court heard that in a 999 call made by the woman, she told the operator: "A man put me to sleep. I don't know what he did. I woke up. He had gloves on. I need some help. This man is clearly doing this to people. "I'm confused, I'm really confused. "He was pulling my trousers down and then I kicked him and he's driven off. "He had a mask on and he had plastic gloves on his hands. He said he was an Uber, he said he was going to drive me home. I didn't order one and I was reluctant." The woman remembered part of a number plate and Mr Head was arrested minutes later after a police pursuit through Hove, the court was told. According to the prosecution, in a police interview, the woman said Mr Head told her he was finishing his shift and would drive her home. "I tried to sit in the front and he said I couldn't. I closed the window and fell asleep. I was fading in and out of consciousness and becoming aware I had been in the car for a really long time," she said. "He kept stopping the car and was groping me. He got into the back and he had these rubber gloves. I was so out of it, I thought maybe this guy is going to chop me into pieces." Mr Head is also accused of assaulting 19-year-old woman he picked up near Hove Park, which he denies. The trial continues. Head helps Klaasen give Sunrisers winning send-off

The sun has already set on Sunrisers Hyderbad's Indian Premier League ambitions but Travis Head has helped ensure something of a warm end-of-season glow. The Australian batter contributed fully as Hyderabad scored 3-278 - the third highest in IPL history - as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders, who have also failed to make the play-offs, by 110 runs in their final match of the season. Openers Abhishek Sharma (32 off 16) and Head put on 92 off 41 balls after Hyderabad opted to bat first. Head scored 76 off 40 deliveries, with six sixes but if that was impressive, there was even better to come from Heinrich Klaasen, who smashed an undefeated 105 off 39 balls Klaasen, the league's most expensive overseas player, hit nine sixes and seven fours in his second IPL century to help Hyderabad pile on a massive total. In reply, Kolkata were bowled out for 168 in 18.4 overs in Delhi. Klaasen was promoted to No. 3 and combined with Head to add 83 off only 35 balls for the second wicket. Klaasen got to 50 from only 17 balls. The South African then shared a partnership of 83 off six overs with Ishan Kishan (29 off 20) and reached his ton off 37 balls. In reply, Kolkata's Sunil Narine scored 31 off 16 balls but did not get support from the top-order. Kolkata were down to 5-70 in eight overs and the chase was pretty much done. Manish Pandey top-scored with 37 off 23 balls. Jaydev Unadkat (3-24), Harsh Dubey (3-34) and Eshan Malinga (3-31) did the damage, though Sunrisers' Australian captain, Pat Cummins, failed to strike in his two overs. Earlier in the day, Dewald Brevis scored 57 runs off 23 balls as bottom side Chennai Super Kings wrapped up their Indian Premier League season in style by routing first-placed Gujarat Titans by 83 runs. Chennai won the toss and scored 5-230 in their 20 overs with Devon Conway hitting a 35-ball 52. In reply, Gujarat were dismissed for 147 in 18.3 overs. Gujarat, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians have already secured playoff spots. Gujarat finished with 18 points from 14 games but their spot in the top two is under threat. Second-placed Punjab (17 points) and fourth-placed Mumbai (16 points) meet on Monday in their last game, and Bengaluru (17 points) face Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday. Opener Ayush Mhatre gave Chennai a good start with a 17-ball 34. The big runs came from two overseas batters - New Zealander Conway providing the base, with South Africa's Brevis attacking toward the end. Conway hit six fours and two sixes. Brevis got four fours and five sixes. Urvil Patel (37 off 19) and Ravindra Jadeja (21 not out off 18) also contributed as Chennai put up a strong total. Gujarat's chase started badly, reduced to 3-30 in 4.3 overs, and their middle-order disappointed despite the chance to take an insurmountable points lead at the top. Sai Sudharsan top-scored with 41 off 28 balls. Pacer Anshul Kamboj finished with 3-13, and wrist spinner Noor Ahmed 3-21. Ravindra Jadeja, who opened the bowling, took 2-17. It was Chennai's fourth win in 14 IPL matches. SRH ''OutKlaas'' KKR By 110 Runs To End IPL Season On A High

Sunrisers Hyderabad ended an IPL season of 'what ifs' with a power-packed batting effort just like it had started, etching a crushing 110-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders riding on Heinrich Klaasen's 37-ball century in Delhi on Sunday. In the season opener, SRH scored an imposing 286 against Rajasthan Royals and on this day at the half-filled Feroz Shah Kotla, Klaasen (105 not out off 39 balls) and Travis Head (76 off 40 balls), who had saved his best for the last, helped the 'Orange Army' post an unassailable 278 for 3 in 20 overs. Despite Kotla track being a featherbed, KKR were never in the hunt as they managed 168 in 18.4 overs with seasoned Jaydev Unadkat (2/23 in 3 overs) picking initial wickets with his clever change of pace. Left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey (3/34 in 4 overs) and Sri Lankan pacer Eshan Malinga (3/31 in 3.4 overs) also had a good outing. SRH skipper Pat Cummins and the entire team is bound to feel disappointed about how they performed in between the first and the last games. On flat tracks, SRH looked menacing with their batters in flow but on pitches where they needed to adapt and bat differently, they fell flat. Eventually, they won six games, one game was washed out and lost at least two games they should have won. The rub of the green didn't go SRH's way when it came to small margins and that ultimately became the reason for them missing out on play-off qualifications. Klaasen (105 not out off 39 balls) was way more severe compared to Head as he completed his half-century off just 18 balls after coming in at the fall of opener Abhishek Sharma (32 off 16 balls). The South African literally continued the mayhem even after Head departed, hitting seven fours and nine sixes, most of them into the second tier of the stands here. Klaasen muscled the KKR bowlers, mainly in the straighter arc and the likes of Anrich Nortje (0/60 in 4 overs), Harshit Rana (0/40 in 3 overs), Varun Chakravarthy (0/54 in 3 overs) and Sunil Narine (2/42 in 4 overs) were punished on one of the flattest decks on offer. On a ground where SRH had set the new batting record in 2024, scoring 125 in Powerplay against Delhi Capitals, Head and his partner in crime Abhishek added 79 in the first six overs to set the tone. The Kotla track was one where any batter could just plonk his front foot and hit through the line or rock back to pull it over mid-wicket. Both Head and Abhishek initially made room and carted pacers over extra cover with utter disdain. The KKR bowling attack has suffered a lot this season whether it has been home or away games. On smooth decks, their spinners Chakravarthy and Narine didn't have enough bite and when it came to the pacers, Harshit's propensity to use cross-seam variations backfired badly. Harshit of 2024 didn't depend so much on slower deliveries and bowled the heavy deliveries, short pitched stuff and hard length balls more frequently. As far as Nortje is concerned, the lack of game time was apparent as this was his second match and throughout the duration, he kept searching for that ideal length where he could keep the batter quiet. The only bowler to escape with slightly lesser punishment was Vaibhav Arora (1/39 in 4 overs).

KKR vs SRH HIGHLIGHTS: SRH end IPL 2025 campaign with 110-run win over KKR

Sunrisers Hyderabad end their IPL 2025 season with a 110-run win against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday. SRH's big hitters taking the team to a mammoth 278/3 was a lot for the Kolkata side who were restricted at 168 on the night as Ajinkya Rahane and co. failed to defend their title this season, finishing with 12 points on the table. Earlier, Heinrich Klaasen tore apart the Kolkata Knight Riders' bowling unit with a blistering 37-ball century, while Travis Head delivered a powerful performance as Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a massive 278/3 in their final league match of IPL 2025 on Sunday. SRH, who had set the tone for the season with a record 286-run total against Rajasthan Royals, displayed a similar dominant batting display to wrap up the league stage. Head, who had an inconsistent run earlier in the tournament, found form at the right time with a 76-run knock off 40 balls, smashing six fours and six maximums. However, it was Klaasen who stole the show. Promoted in the batting order after the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma (32 off 16), the South African reached his fifty in just 18 balls before finishing unbeaten on 105 off 39 deliveries. His onslaught included seven boundaries and nine towering sixes, most landing deep into the stands. KKR's bowling attack had no answers. Nortje (0/60 in 4), Harshit Rana (0/40 in 3), Chakravarthy (0/54 in 3), and Narine (2/42 in 4) all faced the wrath of Klaasen's aggression. Vaibhav Arora (1/39) was the only bowler to manage some control. The Delhi pitch offered no assistance, favoring aggressive strokeplay. Head and Abhishek took full advantage in the Powerplay, hammering 79 runs in the first six overs. The SRH batters made room and dispatched pacers effortlessly through extra cover and over mid-wicket. KKR's bowling woes persisted throughout the season. Their spinners, Narine and Chakravarthy, failed to make an impact on batting-friendly tracks, while the pacers, especially Harshit, struggled with inconsistent lengths and ineffective variations. Nortje, playing just his second match, looked out of rhythm and failed to settle into a reliable length. Sunrisers once again showcased their batting firepower on a ground where they had earlier set the Powerplay record with 125 runs against Delhi Capitals, and Klaasen's fireworks ensured that their campaign ended on a high-scoring note.
