Heart returns to the road with feisty songs and a robust Ann Wilson: Review

Heart returns to the road with feisty songs and a robust Ann Wilson: Review Show Caption Hide Caption Mariah Carey and Oasis among 2025 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame nominees The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has revealed the 14 artists nominated for induction in 2025, eight of whom are first-time nominees. unbranded - Entertainment VIENNA, Va. – For Heart, it's been an unsettled few years. But the musical chemistry between Ann and Nancy Wilson, still a couple of the baddest broads in rock, is indestructible. After taking a break from the band for a couple of years following a family fallout in 2016, the sisters mended their complicated relationship and returned to touring. But last summer that momentum skidded to a hard stop when Ann, who turns 75 this month, announced she was undergoing treatment for cancer. In February, the band's Royal Flush tour resumed, with Ann staying seated not because of her cancer – she's says she's 'nice and clear now' after chemo − but because she fell and broke her elbow. Now, the sisters Wilson and their comfortable five-piece band are back for An Evening With Heart, a tour which landed at a packed Wolf Trap in northern Virginia on June 1 for the second date of the monthlong outing. (Another leg with Todd Rundgren kicks off in their home state of Washington on Aug. 8.) Ann, her hair short, her jacket and ankle boots a crimson power statement, remained seated during the 90-minute show. But the positioning didn't diminish the potency of her voice or her ability to infuse drama into songs including the opening 'Bébé le Strange' and 'Little Queen,' performed with a hint of lingering bitterness from the misogyny Heart experienced in their '70s breakout era. Nancy, in thigh-high boots, pink-streaked hair and her Flying V guitar, might not be Rockette-kicking anymore at 71, but she's still eternally cool. She laced her pretty voice and acoustic guitar through 'These Dreams,' the gliding power ballad and first No. 1 hit for the band during their '80s takeover, and treated fans to 'Love Mistake,' a little-played album track from 1983's 'Passionworks' album. The sisters' voices have always been a beautiful anomaly – Nancy's delicate doe to Ann's muscular steed – and collided effortlessly on pop bauble 'Never' and serrated rocker 'Straight On.' Three guitarists – Ryan Wariner, Ryan Waters and Paul Moak – shared strings duty with Nancy, while Tony Lucido and Sean Lane handled bass and drums, producing a mighty sound that jolted the crowd with set highlight 'Crazy on You.' In addition to the catalog staples, Heart paid homage to Led Zeppelin as they often do in concert. If anyone can equal Robert Plant's yowling and evocative delivery, it's Ann Wilson, who vocally danced through a mesmerizing cover of "The Rain Song" as tasteful multicolored lights swirled behind the band. The rock legends weren't the only shout-outs of the show. Nancy shared a sweet story about an interaction with the late Eddie Van Halen that involved an acoustic guitar, a hotel landline and the guitarist's musical aptitude. In 2021, she wrote '4 Edward' in his honor and in concert unspooled the intriguing instrumental – on acoustic, naturally – with obvious affection. Acoustic guitar also shaped the foundation of 'Alone,' Ann's voice husky as she built to the powerhouse chorus and the band kicked in, an inventive guitar solo leading the melody into a double punch with 'What About Love.' In the pantheon of rockers – female or male – few can match the enduring cool of the Wilson sisters. Let's hope that when Ann stated early in the show that, 'Through all the trials and tribulations, we're back again,' she meant it from the heart.

No stadium shows, but plenty of big concerts are coming to Jacksonville this summer

Change is coming this summer to Jacksonville's concert scene, but from the looks of it, the music will be excellent. There's a new venue in town. Five has opened in the former Sun-Ray Cinema space in Five Points, with room for 1,200 standing fans. Another is coming. The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall has been closed for more than a year and will reopen in August as an expanded venue with some permanent seating. When completed, it will be about the same size as Five, and it will be interesting to see how the venues compete for acts and for fans. A new nightclub, Decca Live, opened on Bay Street in downtown Jacksonville earlier this year and is regularly booking acts. Just down the street, the former Underbelly club has rebranded as The Albatross and has its own slate of shows. Daily's Place has a lighter-than-usual schedule this summer as construction begins on the adjacent EverBank Stadium. There's still no word on whether Daily's will operate at all next year, when crews remove the upper decks of the stadium, or the following year, when the stadium will be closed entirely while new decks are built. Even with all the changes, you shouldn't have to look too hard to find a show that suits your tastes. Beatlemaniac? Ringo Starr's playing. Pre-schooler? Kidz Bop is coming. Southern rocker? Molly Hatchet's doing a hometown show at the Florida Theatre. Country? Choose between Shania Twain, Brad Paisley, Riley Green or Red Clay Strays. Heart is coming, and so is a Heartbreaker. Lil Poppa and Lil Duval all have shows on the books, as do Lil Baby, Da Baby and Skilla Baby. Jazz fans will dig Postmodern Jukebox, hip-hoppers will flock to shows by Ice Cube and Jeezy, and folks looking for a laugh have Nate Bargatze and Nikki Glaser. Davina McCall ‘wrote letters and a will' before brain tumour surgery

The presenter (57) underwent an operation in November 2024 to remove a colloid cyst, which was found after she was offered a health check-up as part of her menopause advocacy work. Recently, McCall was given the all clear - but she has now spoken about her worries before the operation, saying she wrote letters and organised a will in case something happened during the operation. Speaking to radio presenter Jamie Theakston on her podcast Begin Again, she explained: 'I have never had thought processes like I had before my operation. 'Some people were like 'You were quite extreme' because I was like I need to make sure everyone is alright if I die, will, letters.' When Theakston asked if she really did that, she replied: 'Yeah. I mean I was literally telling everybody [that I was fine]. 'But being on an operating table is a risk at our age.' On the show, Theakston also spoke about his experience with stage one laryngeal cancer. The presenter returned to his Heart breakfast show earlier this year, after saying he was 'cancer free'. 'I feel in a much better place not only physically but also mentally because I have learnt so much about myself, and about how strong you can be,' he added. 'I've learnt about other people, about friends and family about how important they can be. ADVERTISEMENT 'Supporting, being there, not taking them for granted. It has been a real gift. 'Often when bad things happen to us, in the aftermath of that there can be good things to take from it and I really do feel that I am a better person because of what I have been through than what I was before.' McCall has been updating her fans on her recovery online and in her 'final brain surgery update' last month, the presenter said she feels 'lucky to be able to draw a line under this' when 'so many people can't'. In an Instagram video, where she appeared alongside her partner, celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas, she said: 'We thought we'd post a final brain operation update. 'So last week I had my final MRI and I was a bit nervous about it because I knew that if any of it was left then it would grow back and I'd just go through the whole thing again, which I was prepared to do. 'I kind of mentally prepared myself for that.' A picture of the MRI scan was shown on screen and McCall said the scan was 'clear'.

Sky confirms huge channel shake-up this week and your TV box will be affected

Sky is shaking up some of its channels to make things easier to find - here's what's new. If you switch on your Sky TV box and notice a swathe of channel changes, you won't be alone. The telecoms and TV giant is shaking things up this week with over 30 services being moved on the telly planner. The revamp is targeting Sky's plethora of radio channels, which allow you to tune into stations such as BBC, Capital FM, Heart and talkSPORT without needing a separate speaker. So why is everything moving? A post on Sky's community pages says the reason things are being switched around is to "close the gaps in the EPG" (Electronic Program Guide). ‌ Hopefully, this should make it far easier to get to the things you want to listen to. ‌ It's been confirmed that the upgrade is taking place this week, starting May 27th. Mirror Online has checked our Sky Q box and the update has already arrived. • talkSPORT - Station moves from Ch 0108 to Ch 0107 • Capital FM - Station moves from Ch 0109 to Ch 0108 • Heart - Station moves from Ch 0111 to Ch 0109 • Heart 80s - Station moves from Ch 0112 to Ch 0110 ‌ • Radio X - Station moves from Ch 0113 to Ch 0111 • Capital XTRA Station moves from Ch 0114 to Ch 0112 • BBC WS - Station moves from Ch 0115 to 0113 ‌ • BBC R Scot. - Station moves from Ch 0116 to Ch 0114 • BBC R Wales - Station moves from Ch 0117 to Ch 0115 • BBC R Ulster - Station moves from Ch 0118 to Ch 0116 ‌ • BBC Asian - Station moves from Ch 0119 to Ch 0117 • BBC 6 Music - Station moves from Ch 0120 to Ch 0118 • Gold Radio - Stationmoves from Ch 0121 to Ch 0119 ‌ • WRN Europe - Station moves from Ch 0122 to Ch 0120 • LBC - Station moves from Ch 0123 to Ch 0121 • Smooth - Station moves from Ch 0124 to Ch 0122 ‌ • BBC R4 Ex - Station moves from Ch 0126 to Ch 0123 • BBC R1X - Station moves from Ch 0127 to Ch 0124 • BBC R n Gael - Station moves from Ch 0129 to Ch 0126 ‌ • BBC R5SX - Station moves from Ch 0131 to Ch 0127 • Heart Dance - Station moves from Ch 0132 to Ch 0128 • BBC Rlondon/Foyle/Cymru - Station moves from Ch 0135 to Ch 0129 ‌ • BBC R Cymru / BBC R Cymru2 - Station moves from Ch 0136 to Ch 0130 • RTE Radio 1 - Station moves from Ch 0137 to Ch 0131 • RTE 2FM - Station moves from Ch 0138 to Ch 0132 ‌ • RTE Lyric fm - Station moves from Ch 0139 to Ch 0133 • RTE R na G - Station moves from Ch 0140 to Ch 0134 • EWTN - Station moves from Ch 0147 to Ch 0135 ‌ • BFBS Radio - Station moves from Ch 0149 to Ch 0136 • Virgin Radio - Station moves from Ch 0150 to Ch 0137 • Heart 90s - Station moves from Ch 0152 to Ch 0138 ‌ • BBC Cymru 2 (Except Wales&ROI) - Station moves from Ch 0153 to Ch 0139 • BBC Foyle (Except NI&ROI) - Station moves from Ch 0154 to Ch 0140 • LBC News - Station moves from Ch 0155 to Ch 014 ‌ It's worth noting that you don't need to touch the settings or start retuning your box with things being switched over automatically. Along with getting those new radio channels this week, there's another reason to check your Q box. Sky has confirmed that it is offering free movies until May 31 to say sorry for this month's issue that left some users without access to contnet. ‌ "We're gifting you a Sky Store Buy & Keep movie — it's our way of saying thank you for bearing with us," Sky said in an email. Movies available as part of the gift include blockbusters such as Bullet Train, Jumanji: The Next Level, Les Misérables, Venom, Gladiator, Brides Maids and The Equalizer. To grab this bonus, Sky Q customers can click on the Sky Store from the homepage. Then they will see a 'Your Sky Store gift on us' tile at the top. It's then simply a question of picking a film. "Once downloaded, this is yours to keep forever," Sky added.
