EastEnders Eve Unwin actress Heather Peace gives huge update on breast cancer treatment
EastEnders star Heather Peace, who plays Eve Unwin on the soap, shares news about her cancer battle after 'nine long months', as her wife has also been diagnosed with breast cancer EastEnders Eve Unwin actress Heather Peace has given her fans an update on her breast cancer journey. The 50-year-old has carried on acting in the soap despite her diagnosis and treatment – and she's just completed 15 radiotherapy sessions. And now the soap star has has her final round of the cancer treatment – she recently declared as she posted a selfie outside the hospital and shared an update on Instagram. Heather was celebrating the end of chemo and radiotherapy as she gave an update. Taking to social media with a selfie outside of hospital in an Instagram post, the soap star wrote: "Final round of 15 radio therapy sessions just completed. This marks the end of a long nine months of diagnosis, chemo and radio." She added: "Time to piece myself back together. Thank you for the beautiful support." She included the hashtags 'checkyourbreasts' along with 'breastcancerawarness' to end the post. Breast cancer affects millions of women every year and Heather Peace has been encouraging others to check breasts and to be aware of any changes. She recently opened up on That Gaby Roslin Podcast about her decision to continue working on EastEnders despite her diagnosis. She said: "I need to come in [to work on set] because at this point, I don't know what's going to happen. And I want to finish this arc of the story.' The actress became a favourite with fans on the BBC soap EastEnders since her debut in 2021. The 50-year-old plays the role of Eve Panesar-Unwin, enthralling audiences with the romantic storyline with Suki Panesar, played by Balvinder Sopal, the two women fell in love as Suki escaped a controlling relationship with ex-husband Nish Panesar. Heather's real-life wife Ellie Dickinson was also diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year - and the couple have three daughters, Annie, 10, and eight-year-old twins Jesse and Lola. Ellie was heartbreakingly diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, she had a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy to combat a smaller but fierce tumour. Heather had a significantly larger 12cm tumour, she underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and was about to start radiotherapy. Heather recounted Ellie's reaction with some humour, she said: "Her breast cancer was a smaller, aggressive lump, so she had a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy. Of course then I come along with my 12 cm lump, absolutely ginormous, and mastectomy, chemotherapy, just about to go into radiotherapy. She's like 'Even that you have to do bigger'. It's like 'Hold my beer'." Finding her own lump after noticing a change in her nipple, Heather admits she tried putting off getting checked at the time because of her EastEnders filming schedule. But wife Ellie told Heather she must go right away, but they were shocked to discover Heather had breast cancer within just three hours of seeing a doctor. At that time Heather told the Mirror: 'I swear everybody looked at me, it might be my imagination, but I felt like a dead woman walking. 'I honestly did because it was so big and so quick that they told us and the seriousness and gravity with which I was told.' As her battle with cancer proceeded, the actress wore a wig on the set of Eastenders - and she said the hardest change to her appearance has been the 'devastating' hair loss. She said this made her feel self conscious, explaining that she also lost her eyelashes and your eyebrows. Back in May, Heather told fans about her secret battle with breast cancer, now just a few days ago she shared the update that she'd got through the treatment cycle and it was the 'end of nine long months'.
