2026 Dodge Durango First Look Review: It's Survived Four CEOs

The remarkable thing about the Dodge Durango isn't only solely how long it's been on sale, it's also that it's remained fun to drive and somewhat competitive in terms of family hauling. Still, it needs an update, as the available safety and convenience technologies lag the segment's best. Sure, the engine lineup has been tweaked and the interior and exterior slightly updated here and there, but this three-row family SUV has survived for much longer than Stellantis has existed and existed under four CEOs including Fiat Chrysler leadership. It makes you wonder just how much longer the Durango will soldier on. 0:00 / 0:00 We know it will exist at least in its current form for the 2026 model year, when it will once again be the last Dodge product available with a V-8. The base level GT will continue using the 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastar engine, the Durango R/T will stick with the 360-hp, 390-lb-ft 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, and the SRT Hellcat once again rocks a 710-hp, 645-lb-ft supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8. In familiar Dodge fashion, freshness is injected via packages and aesthetic add-ons. The Blacktop Redline is new on the Durango R/T's option list and adds blacked-out 20-inch wheels, black badging, and black SRT exhaust tips, as well as SRT front and rear spoilers. If you also order the $5,990 Tow N Go package, wider 20-inch wheels (including a forged option) and a set of black Brembo calipers are included. Inside, the Blacktop Redline R/T gets SRT front seats and standard second-row captain's chairs wrapped in leather and microsuede with red accent stitching. Leather is also applied to the door trim and center console, and interior trim pieces are laser-etched with a geometric 'crypto sweep' graphic. The Blacktop Redline package adds $3,495 to the R/T Plus and R/T Premium trims. The standard R/T can be ordered with a less comprehensive Blacktop package that adds black wheels, black badging, and black roof rails in a seven-seat configuration for $1,695. If you're more into show than go, the 295-hp V-6 Durango GT's Blacktop Redline package features red stripes on the front fender and liftgate, a performance hood, SRT spoilers, and leather and suede SRT performance front seats. Order books open next month, while pricing and further details on the 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat will be announced later this year.

Guy Fleeing In Stolen Dodge Scat Pack Is His Own Worst Enemy

Read the full story on The Auto Wire Surprisingly, it's been a while since we've seen such a wild police chase as this one involving a stolen Dodge Scat Pack. It comes out of Atlanta and involves multiple Georgia State Patrol troopers trying to keep up with the much faster Mopar muscle car. But as is the case so often, the fleeing suspect is his own worst enemy, or rather his driving skills becoming originally got the trooper's attention was an obscured license plate on the Charger, thanks to one of those smoked covers. Unsurprisingly, when he was finally able to read and run the tag, it returned as registered to a Toyota. You can see in the footage everything is calm as the Dodge pulls into a gas station and the trooper follows, switching on his lights. Probably the suspect wanted to see if he was being tailed or not. Realizing he was, the guy steps on it and things get wild in a hurry. Our suspect wastes no time in dropping the hammer and doesn't loose it on some sweeping turns in the road. The car is definitely packing a Hemi and from the exterior trim, which has obviously been modified, it appears to be a Scat Pack. In other words, the GSP trooper has his work cut out for him. The Charger narrowly misses colliding with a Jeep, goes the wrong way on a one-way road, and blows through a red light, dusting his pursuer. But the trooper doesn't just give up as backup arrives in the area and they start combing for the muscle car. It doesn't take long for another trooper to spot the speeding Mopar and the chase is back on. Hopelessly outgunned as well, he struggles to even keep the fleeing Dodge in sight. Thankfully, by that point Atlanta Police Department's Phoenix air unit is tracking the suspect so troopers know where to turn. Troopers are still hard pressed to keep up. Our camera car at one point even catches some nice air off a railroad crossing. The chase takes them onto narrow residential streets with cars parked on the shoulders, requiring some tight maneuvering to get through. Sure enough, following directions from Phoenix, one of the troopers happens across the Dodge Charger just driving along at low speeds, like nothing happened. The suspect probably thought he lost the troopers since he hadn't seen any for a while, clearly not realizing an eye in the sky had been tracking him. Taking off again, the guy pushes the stolen muscle car, but his luck starts to run out. Approaching a narrow and busy intersection, he hits two cars, the Scat Pack sustaining damage as one of the tires slips the wheel rim and comes off. Desperate to get away, he keeps pushing the Charger, but the bare metal of the wheel rim causes him to lose control as he wrecks out big time into another vehicle, then slams nose-first into a power pole. Unfortunately, the car our suspect hits at the end careens off the road and into a ditch. At least the driver was caught after he fled on foot. To nobody's shock he apparently has a criminal history, including breaking into cars. Image via State Boyzzz/YouTube Join our Newsletter, subscribe to our YouTube page, and follow us on Facebook.

Is Ram Teasing the Hemi's Return?

Following the departure of much-loathed Stellantis head Carlos Tavares late last year, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis told Motor1 that he wouldn't rule out a return of the beloved Hemi V-8 to the Ram 1500 pickup. Now, Ram is teasing a big reveal on June 8th. Could we see the return of the V-8? An Instagram post featuring Kuniskis, Diesel Brothers host Dave Sparks, and an actor dressed as a fighter pilot is cryptic, but the caption says "[f]ire up the engines—big things are on the horizon." In the comments, Sparks also said, "Ram is in very good hands with Tim." What does all this mean? We don't know, but the date— the 8th—in combination with Kuniskis' earlier comments has us wondering, perhaps hoping, that Ram will announce a return for the V-8 next month. Better still would be a revival of the Hellcat-powered Ram TRX, which was first rumored earlier this year . Ram last year dropped the 5.7-liter V-8 from its half-ton in favor of a twin-turbo straight-six, a move that Tavares apparently pushed for against the objections from other Stellantis execs. The brand also replaced the TRX with the RHO , which gets much of the same, dune-bashing running gear with a 540-horsepower version of the Stellantis straight-six. When we spoke with Kuniskis earlier this year, he said putting a Hemi back into the Ram 1500 wouldn't be the work of a moment. "Number one, the Hemi was never designed to run in that truck on that electrical architecture, so that's a huge challenge," he said. "They shut down production on that particular Hemi, the eTorque. There's supplier work because when you shut something down, suppliers shut down their assembly lines, and they switch to something else." He didn't say it was impossible, just that doing this would take time. Of course, Ram could have something else up its sleeve entirely, and it's just a coincidence that the reveal is set for June 8th... a Sunday. Thankfully, we won't have to wait long to find out. T Discontinued for 2026, Ram Delays EVs

With a car so ingrained in muscle car culture—thanks to the Hemi V-8—the Charger's reinvention as the all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona before the gas-fed, but still not V-8-powered Charger models arrive later this year was probably going to make brisk sales a long shot. Sure enough, the internet is rife with stories of heavily discounted Charger Daytona EVs languishing on dealer lots, as Dodge fans pass on the (powerful!) but Hemi-less Daytonas while they wait for the V-8's (likely) return—or at least the Sixpack versions powered by twin-turbo inline-sixes. 0:00 / 0:00 Unsurprisingly, the vacuum of enthusiasm for the Charger Daytona is forcing a re-think over at Dodge parent company Stellantis, which has now confirmed to Carscoops that it's dropping the entry-level Charger Daytona R/T for the 2026 model year. For now, it's available as a 2025, only in two-door form. As of May 22, 2025, the four-door Charger Daytona's planned arrival this spring is being delayed—though not entirely canceled like the R/T trim level—until later this year or early next, when it'll arrive for the 2026 model year. A story from Car and Driver confirms as much. The four-doors' launch now coincides with that of the ICE-powered 'Sixpack' Chargers. The ICE-powered Chargers continue to appear to be on track to launch as a 2026 model year by arriving late 2025. These Chargers will come as four-door models with the high-output Hurricane Twin Turbo I-6. The move will leave Dodge with only the two-door Charger Daytona Scat Pack representing the Charger lineup for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, other EVs from Stellantis are on ice, too, with the all-electric Ram 1500 Rev recently delayed again, likely to 2027, while the Ram 1500 Ramcharger extended-range EV (with a gas generator onboard) that previously was shifted ahead of the Rev in the production schedule also is being delayed until next year or beyond. But back to the Charger Daytona R/T. It's being axed due to poor sales and 'U.S. tariffs.' Even as the entry-level trim for the all-electric Dodge Charger, the $61,590 R/T apparently wasn't discounted enough relative to the much more powerful Scat Pack's base price of $70,190 to stand out to Dodge buyers. That said, if you go try and configure a 2025 Charger Daytona R/T on Dodge's website right now, it promises a ludicrous $47,000-ish price for an optionless model with all tax credits and manufacturer incentives baked in. The Scat Pack? It's going for about the same as an un-discounted R/T at the moment. So maybe it's just that people aren't into a Daytona with "only" 496 hp instead of 670 hp like you get in the Scat Pack for similar-ish money. And the remaining Charger Daytona Scat Pack might get even cheaper still. The 2024 and 2025 models come standard with several packages and options that, if made truly optional (like the Track Pack kit) could further drop the price. The ICE-powered Chargers, on the other hand, appear to be on track to remain through the 2026 model year with the four-door and high-output Hurricane Twin Turbo I-6 coming onboard as scheduled. Delays, Delays, Delays Another all-electric getting delayed is the 2026 Ram 1500 REV, which was already delayed once before. According to Car and Driver, the 1500 REV will now be delayed to summer of 2027. The final vehicle (so far) joining Stellantis' Delayfest 2025 is the Ramcharger EREV, which will now be pushed back to the first quarter of 2026 where it was supposed to hit dealers by the end of this year. Meanwhile, Dodge and Ram are said to be refocusing their efforts on bringing the Hemi V-8 back to their lineups in force. Today, only the three-row Durango SUV still offers the V-8—but it's likely coming back to the Ram 1500 and, possibly, even the Charger, soon.
