Christchurch Casino's boss has apologised for "substantial" anti-money laundering failures after it was investigated. Christchurch Casino says it takes responsibility for major anti-money laundering failures and apologises to the community. The casino will pay more than $5 million after it and the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) reached a settlement in civil proceedings. Casino chief executive Brett Anderson told the Herald he was sorry for 'substantial anti-money laundering failings'. 'Christchurch Casino was not directly involved in money laundering or the financing of terrorism, but we failed where we should have succeeded in meeting our responsibilities under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act.' On behalf of the casino board and management, he apologised to the Christchurch community and casino stakeholders.

Photo / Getty Images Steven Knight, the creator of gritty TV crime series Peaky Blinders, will write the highly anticipated next James Bond movie, studio Amazon MGM announced today. Knight will work alongside previously announced director Denis Villeneuve (Dune) to bring the world's most famous fictional spy back to the big screen after a prolonged absence. Amazon MGM Studios acquired creative control of the 007 movies in February and has moved quickly to get one of Hollywood's most valuable franchises back into production. There has been no new Bond film since 2021's No Time To Die. Knight is best known as the mind behind violent British gangster series Peaky Blinders, which was set in industrial England at the turn of the 20th century and became a global hit.

Photo / AFP Canada plans to recognise a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September, Prime Minister Mark Carney has said, a dramatic policy shift that was immediately rejected by Israel. Carney said the move was necessary to preserve hopes of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a long-standing Canadian goal that was 'being eroded before our eyes'. 'Canada intends to recognise the State of Palestine at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025,' the Prime Minister said. It makes Canada the third country, following recent announcements by France and the United Kingdom, that could recognise a Palestinian state in September. Israel blasted Canada's announcement as part of a 'distorted campaign of international pressure'.

Winning second division tickets were sold in Rotorua and Tauranga while Strike Four was struck in Whakatāne. Eight lucky players nationwide won $31,618 each in the second division, with the winning Rotorua ticket sold at New World Westend and the Tauranga ticket at Fresh Choice Ōmokoroa. Two Strike Four players split the $700,000 jackpot, picking up $350,000 each.
