As Kamal Haasan gears up for the release of his upcoming gangster action drama 'Thug Life' on June 5, let's take a look at the time when the Tamil actor recalled his collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan in the 2000 bilingual period film 'Hey Ram'. Kamal revealed that Shah Rukh did not charge a single rupee for acting in Hey Ram, a film that Kamal himself wrote, directed, and produced. When we work together, we are all just people' 'In Hey Ram, Shah Rukh sahib made that film for free. That cannot be done by a superstar. That can only be done by a fan, a connoisseur of art. I'm ever thankful to him,' Kamal said, humbly acknowledging SRK's gesture. He added that when artists collaborate on a project, they don't see each other through the lens of stardom. 'When we work together, we are all just people. I don't see a superstar. He doesn't see a super director. We are friends.' There has never been a time when an artist feels like his full potential is yet to be discovered. Talking about artists, many rise to instant fame while some take time to build their stardom over many years of working. On the other hand, there are sections of actors who lost fame over time as well and completely disappeared from the industry. It is hard for anybody to go through a tough time, but the actor whom we are talking about struggled a lot after his popularity in the entertainment business fell drastically. This actor cleaned toilets and mopped floors, he even became a part-time mechanic to meet his daily needs. This is the same actor who gave back-to-back blockbusters with Kamal Haasan, Tabu, and Rajinikanth. Still couldn't guess which actor we are talking about? The actor in question is none other than Actor Abbas. He now lives a private life somewhere in New Zealand after he went out of business in the film industry. Actor Abbas was once a popular name in the industry, where he even worked in different industries, including Bollywood and Tollywood. Abbas was a chocolate boy of South Industry, his popularity among the audience was so much that his films used to do great business. Now, actor Abbas has done multiple jobs, including working as a taxi driver, and even cleaning the toilets to meet his daily needs. Kamal Haasan is open to filming in M'sia as he arrives in KL to promote new film

Kamal Haasan is happy to present his latest movie 'Thug Life' to his Malaysian fans. Photo: LOW BOON TAT/The Star Indian actor and politician Kamal Haasan is in Kuala Lumpur today (May 31) to promote his latest movie, Thug Life , which is set to hit cinemas on June 5. Speaking to the media at a hotel in KL earlier this afternoon, the 70-year-old described the film as 'a treat' he has prepared for his Malaysian fans. 'We worked hard on this 'child,' which I am now handing over to you,' he said. Thug Life reunites Kamal with director Mani Ratnam after 38 years. Their last collaboration was the 1987 classic Nayakan . Indian media has dubbed Thug Life a 'spiritual sequel' to that film, after Kamal said it was a peace offering to fans who have long awaited their reunion. Co-written by Kamal and Mani, Thug Life is set in the criminal underworld, where brothers Sakthivel and Manickam rule. But things begin to shift when one of them rescues a young boy – triggering insecurity in the other. When an assassination attempt is made on Sakthivel, he sets out to destroy the very family he once built. The film also stars Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan and Joju George. The award-winning actor – whose notable works include Hey Ram , Indian , Vikram and Vishwaroopam – said his character in Thug Life is someone who fights with everything he has. 'That makes him more dangerous than someone with a sword – because he is someone who has nothing to go back to. The battlefield is his home now. He'll see the battle through to the end, live or die,' Kamal said. When asked whether he'd be interested in filming in Malaysia again, Kamal shared that he has shot scenes here in the past and is open to doing so in the future. 'I've come here many times. I have many friends in Malaysia. And I think we share more than just culture and language,' he added. Besides the press conference, Kamal is also scheduled to make a special appearance at a fan meet-and-greet at MyTown Kuala Lumpur later this evening. 'It is a three-second kiss': Abhirami breaks silence on viral scene with Kamal Haasan in Thug Life

Thug Life is one of the most highly anticipated Tamil films, just days away from its theatrical release. Ahead of the movie's grand premiere, the makers unveiled its trailer. While fans were impressed, a section of netizens expressed displeasure over a kissing scene between Kamal Haasan and Abhirami. The scene sparked a debate on social media regarding the age gap they share. In response, the actress has stepped forward to address the controversy. Abhirami opens up about her viral scene with Kamal Haasan In an interview with Hindustan Times, Abhirami began by acknowledging that it's hard to avoid public criticism these days, noting that controversies are bound to happen no matter what. She added that it wasn't her place to question director Mani Ratnam's vision or casting choices. Addressing the much-discussed kissing scene, she clarified that it lasts only a few seconds. Abhirami said, 'The kissing scene is a three-second kiss! The fact that only that was shown in the trailer is a little misleading. When you watch the movie, the scene, and what leads up to the kiss, you won't even flinch—it fits so well into the narrative. The fact that it's being talked about this much, I feel, is a little unnecessary.' She acknowledged that the marketing team likely highlighted the scene for promotional reasons, noting that such strategies are common in the industry. However, the actress urged people to watch the film before making assumptions. Abhirami shares why netizens reacted so strongly to the kissing scene During the same interview, Abhirami said she wasn't entirely sure why the scene drew so much attention. She suggested it might be because Kamal Haasan has a history of boldly exploring intimate themes in his films. The Thug Life actress pointed out how tastefully he had portrayed such moments in Hey Ram. Abhirami described Kamal Haasan as a fearless storyteller. According to her, whenever he takes on bold subjects, it often sparks public discussion. She noted that it's not unusual for actors or actresses to do kissing scenes, but when someone as prominent as Kamal Haasan does it, people tend to take notice. Abhirami concluded by saying that onscreen intimacy is quite common now, and she believes the audience will become more accepting of it over time. Coming to Thug Life, the movie is set to hit the big screens on June 5, 2025. It will also feature Trisha and Silambarasan TR in prominent roles.

Abhirami REACTS To Kiss With Kamal Haasan In Thug Life: 'When You Watch The Scene...'

Last Updated: Abhirami breaks silence on kiss scene controversy in Thug Life, calls it "unnecessary". The trailer for Kamal Haasan's Thug Life, released on May 17, has stirred both excitement and criticism. While many were thrilled to see the iconic actor reunite with filmmaker Mani Ratnam, some viewers took issue with certain scenes—especially a romantic moment and a kiss featuring Kamal and Abhirami. In an exclusive conversation with Hindustan Times, she shared her thoughts on it. When asked whether the reaction to the age gap between them was warranted, Abhirami said, 'See, anything is going to become a controversy these days, I don't think you can escape that at all. I'm not in a position to judge Mani sir's logic and about casting me in a certain role. Whatever his logic is, I'm agreeable with that." Kamal Haasan is 70, while she is 42. She further added, 'And the kissing scene is a three-second kiss! The fact that only that was shown in the trailer is a little misleading. When you watch the movie and the scene and what leads up to the kiss, you won't even flinch—it sticks so well to the scene. The fact that it's being talked about this much I feel it is a little unnecessary." Abhirami also acknowledged how the moment may have been highlighted for promotional reasons. 'The marketing people are going to do whatever is beneficial for the film. I understand that aspect as well. Any press is good press, as they say. But I would urge people to watch the film before jumping to conclusions." She reflected on Kamal Haasan's history with such scenes, noting that bold storytelling has always been part of his cinematic language. 'I think maybe because Kamal sir has had a track record of being bold enough to venture into those spaces before. Like in Hey Ram, how beautifully he shot the intimacy between both his partners, Rani Mukherjee and Vasundhara Das. He's been a very bold storyteller, and whenever he ventures into that space, people always have something to say about it." As for the controversy itself, she believes it says more about public perception than the content. 'It's not that no other actor or actress kisses on screen. When somebody at the top does it, people talk about it because it gives them mileage as well. As you rightly said, it's so commonplace now; I think the audience will also mature in due time." Directed by Mani Ratnam and headlined by Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan, the film will release on June 5. First Published:
