42 Best Boxer Shorts for Women to Nail the Summer 2025 Trend
I hate wearing pants. Always have, always will. I'm the type of girlie who skips wearing "real clothes" any chance I get. And it's clear I'm not the only one who feels this way, based on the boxer shorts trend that's skyrocketed to popularity over the past year. If you've scrolled through social media at all in the past few months (major props to you if you haven't), you know exactly the underwear-as-outerwear look I'm talking about. These days, boxers aren't just for lounging at home. They're for casual outings, too. But let me make one thing clear: Women's boxer shorts becoming a trend does not give you an excuse to wear any old sleep shorts—or worse, your S.O. or Hinge hookup's literal boxers—out in public. You need a pair that's clearly meant to be seen, not one from a multi-pack you swiped from the menswear department. The best boxer shorts hint at underwear without actually being them. If showing up to class in your underwear sounds like the plot line of one of your nightmares, it's time to heal your psyche with some immersion therapy this summer. To help you find a staple pair (or three), I've highlighted a few dozen of the season's best boxer shorts below. A coordinating button-up or blouse clearly communicates that your adventurous choice of bottoms was intentional. Matching sets are a trend in and of themselves, so it's worth grabbing all the components while they're still available in your size. Better to snag that set from Sézane or Hill House Home now than be butthurt later when the top you've been lusting after all summer is sold out. P.S. You can hack the look by pairing white boxers with a white button-up shirt that's already in your closet. Vertical stripes can instantly give a style that quintessential boxer look, even when the silhouette isn't quite so literal. You'll notice blue and white pinstripes are a default color combo at It-girl brands like Leset and Sporty & Rich, as the pairing works with literally every statement color that's trending this summer. If the idea of foregoing pants in public still sounds a tad intimidating, start with a classic, solid-colored pair that offers maximum styling possibilities. Options from Commi Si and Hommegirls with logo waistbands look equally cute peeking out from beneath other bottoms as they do worn solo. Trending pastels like pistachio green, butter yellow, and ballet pink somehow feel even cooler in boxer form, particularly when styled with minimalist wardrobe staples like white tees, tanks, and button-ups. The soft-hued styles at Staud and Aritzia make for adorable beach or pool outfits, too, in case you were wondering (I know you were). Demure floral prints and other fun patterns make it clear you deliberately chose to go without pants in public. The gingham options at Damson Madder and Reformation would be perfect for the Cowboy Carter Tour outfit you're currently panicking about. Those shopping for upcoming vacays should grab a beachy pair from Abercrombie & Fitch or Farm Rio. You'll notice boxer shorts from buzzy brands like Cou Cou, Negative, and LoveShackFancy draw inspiration from both women's lingerie and men's underwear. These satin, pointelle, and lace-trimmed styles can fill holes in your wardrobe you didn't even know existed. Use them to spice up Sabrina Carpenter-esque babydoll tops and mini dresses, contrast grungy graphic tees and slouchy sweatshirts, and give new life to basic tees and tanks this summer. Why limit yourself to shorts reminiscent of men's boxers when there's a plethora of bloomers to play with as well? Take the underwear-as-outerwear trend a step further with frilly bloomers or bubble hem boxer shorts that can serve as a functional layer under too-short mini dresses and oversized tees. Styling a pair with a baby tee or simple tank is very brat. Sarah Maberry is a fashion and luxury commerce editor at Hearst Magazines, where she covers fashion, beauty and pop culture. The 11 comfiest travel dresses, according to stylists and editors
Travel dresses quick picks Maxi dress: Athleta Presidio Traveler Maxi Dress T-shirt dress: Loft Draped Mini Tee Dress Nap dress: Hill House Home The Ellie Nap Dress Washable silk dress: Quince Silk Slip Dress When it comes to comfortable, fail-proof travel outfits, travel dresses have just as much to offer as your favorite matching sets. Aside from being space-saving, especially if you're working with limited luggage real estate, travel dresses are a one-and-done outfit that can save you precious vacation time in the mornings. 'The best travel pieces are made from loose, lightweight fabrics that have stretch and provide extra comfort,' fashion stylist and blogger Jana Meister said. 'Athletic-style dresses with a light layering piece over top like a cardigan or jacket are good options for traveling. I love to pair my athletic or casual dresses with tennis shoes for a chic yet styled look.' Also great for travel? T-shirt dresses, since they can be dressed up or down, have a loose fit and are easy to sit in, the stylist notes. To help you find the perfect travel dress for your upcoming trip, we asked stylists to share their insights and recommendations. We tapped our team of editors for their top travel dress picks, too. Athleta Presidio Traveler Maxi Dress If you're looking for a dress that falls below the knees, Meister recommends this Athleta one. Designed with travel in mind, this maxi dress is made from a quick-drying, wrinkle-resistant polyester and spandex blend and has pockets for stashing your small items. It also has a UPF 40+ rating, making it ideal for long days exploring in the sun. Everlane The Weekend Tank Dress Personal stylist and image consultant Cynthia Kennedy singles out Everlane's The Weekend Tank Dress as a great option for travel because it's breathable, can be worn with a bra and isn't too clingy. She notes that the dress is perfect for 'hot weather cities when you still want to look polished in photos' and recommends pairing it with a denim jacket, if needed. Buck Mason Mainstay Cotton Slip Dress Health, fitness and food editor Tobey Grumet Segal has several Buck Mason pieces in her wardrobe, including this cotton slip dress. She loves traveling in it because it falls just above her ankles, has a comfortable, loose-fit, adjustable straps and her favorite feature — pockets. 'It's the perfect dress to throw on for a flight somewhere warm, though I usually throw a cardigan over my shoulders for the in-plane AC,' she said. 'Plus, I know I'll be able to wear it on the other side, no matter where I'm heading.' Maurice's 24/7 Clara Dress Meister recommends this short-sleeved ribbed dress, which she likes for its handy pockets, elasticated drawstring waist and above-the-knee hemline. 'The fabrication makes it ideal for traveling and [it] would be a great option [to wear with] tennis shoes or sandals,' she said. The dress comes in three colors — Biscay Bay, Dark Gray and Rose of Sharon — and ranges from sizes XS to 4X to accommodate different body types. Scheels Women's Recreation Millie Dress Looking for a sporty dress to add to your wardrobe? Meister recommends Scheels' Women's Recreation Millie Dress, which is made from a comfy and stretchy scuba material. 'It has an elastic drawstring waist, a full sleeve, dual pockets, and [it] comes in a gorgeous dusty jade color,' Meister said. If you prefer to dress in more neutral colors, it also comes in black. Hill House Home The Ellie Nap Dress We've written about nap dresses extensively because they're so comfortable to wear. Turns out they're great for travel too! 'I am not ashamed to admit that I have more nap dresses in my closet than I can count on one hand,' home and gifts editor Amina Lake Patel said. 'The Ellie is perfect for travel because it can be dressed up or down. I often wear it with sneakers when I'm doing a lot of walking, but it also looks great with heeled sandals when I'm going out to dinner.' She notes that the wrinkle-resistant crepe fabric doesn't show creases, which makes it a particularly great option. Maurice's 24/7 Bare Henley Wavy Rib Dress This ribbed dress from Maurice's is another one of Meister's recommendations. 'It would be great for layering, and [it] comes in an amazing mineral red color,' she said, adding that its polyester, rayon and spandex blend makes it a comfortable and easy-to-care-for option. We love that the sleeveless dress has pockets, an elasticated waist and a hemline that hits right above the knees, so you can easily walk in it. Uniqlo Airism Soft Mini Bra Dress If you're working with limited packing space, this Uniqlo dress is for you. Kennedy loves that it doesn't take up much room in your luggage, is easy to layer and has a convenient built-in bra. The dress also has adjustable straps and built-in shorts that have pockets, so you can confidently move around. Loft Draped Mini Tee Dress This comfy T-shirt dress from Loft is a great travel option, according to Meister. 'It's 100% cotton fabric is breathable and lightweight for travel, and it has a simple draping in the front that adds a pop of style and sophistication,' she said. In addition to appreciating how easily this dress can be layered, Meister also loves that it can be paired with tennis shoes or a dressier option, like mules. If you're looking for other T-shirt dresses at a super affordable price, she recommends checking out Old Navy, too. Cozy Earth Brushed Bamboo Sleeveless Midi Dress Cozy Earth makes some of our favorite pajamas, and this T-shirt style tank dress is just as comfy according to fashion and beauty editor Sophie Shaw. 'The bamboo blend jersey is soft and has a brushed feel on the inside, so it literally feels like wearing PJs,' she said. 'This silhouette is roomy yet streamlined, and I love that it has pockets too. It's such a nice alternative to wearing sweats to the airport, but without sacrificing comfort.' Quince 100% Washable Silk Slip Dress Kennedy recommends Quince's mulberry silk slip dress, which she describes as easy to pack and versatile. We love that the dress is machine-washable, has adjustable straps and a flattering bias cut. Plus, it comes in over 10 colors and prints to work with different wardrobes. According to Meister, there are a few factors to take into consideration when it comes to shopping for a travel dress, with comfort being one of the biggest. She recommends looking for dresses that have a loose fit and fall at a length you can comfortably walk and sit in. She also suggests looking out for dresses that are made from soft, wrinkle-resistant fabrics. 'Wrinkle-resistant fabrics such as nylon or polyester are absolutely perfect for travel,' Meister said, adding, 'They are good for packing in your suitcase and wear really well without ironing or steaming.' Other fabrics to look for, according to the stylist, are ones that have four-way stretch, are quick-drying or sweat-wicking. Both stylists agree that you should shop for dresses with features like pockets, adjustable straps and stretchy waistbands. Kennedy also suggests opting for wrap-style dresses, dresses that are made from breathable or lightweight knit fabrics and dresses that have built-in bras. 'Built-in bras can be a game-changer, especially if you're trying to pack light, but only if the support actually works for your body (sometimes built-ins are a little… optimistic),' she said. Other factors to consider when shopping for travel dresses, according to Kennedy, are the cultural norms of the area you're visiting, the weather and how easily your dresses can be layered. The following FAQs have been answered by stylist Jana Meister. What is the best fabric for a travel dress? What is the best fabric for a travel dress? According to Meister, nylon, polyester and cotton blends are great fabric options. 'These dresses don't wrinkle too much and often times are soft and comfortable enough for a long day of travel,' she said. How do I keep my dress from wrinkling when traveling? How do I keep my dress from wrinkling when traveling? 'Wrinkle-resistant, easy-to-maintain synthetics, such as nylon or polyester are great if you are wearing the dress during travel,' Meister said. If you plan to pack your dresses however, Meister recommends rolling them or using tissue paper to prevent wrinkling. 'Rolling the dresses will keep them from creasing and the tissue paper will keep other fabrics from bunching up against them,' she said. How should you pack a long dress for travel? How should you pack a long dress for travel? Using a garment bag to carry your long dresses is typically the best option, but you can also roll the dress or place it in tissue paper and lay it flat under the rest of your clothes, Meister said. 'As soon as you reach your destination make sure to remove your dress from your travel bag and let it hang before wearing it,' she added. 20 best spring dresses you'll never want to take off, according to stylists and editors
From T-shirt dresses to romantic floral frocks, we're on the brink of one of our favorite seasons (fashion-wise, at least): spring dress season. They're the backbone of warm weather style, after all. Throwing on a pretty, flattering dress is one of the easiest ways to look chic and pulled-together. To jump-start your spring wardrobe, I consulted three professional stylists about shopping for spring dresses and tapped Underscored editors for their recommendations too. Old Navy Fit & Flare Sleeveless Linen-Blend Midi Dress A floral dress complete with pockets, this breezy spring style makes for one of the easiest outfits you can pull together. It comes in regular sizing up to size 4X, as well as petites and a tall range. Plus, the price is just right. Naggoo Wrap V-Neck Mini Dress Senior lifestyle editor Tamara Kraus says this floral Amazon dress provides enough coverage to wear to the office and is just the right length for when the weather starts to warm up. It comes in a variety of floral colors and some other spring-ready prints too. By Anthropologie The Nina Short-Sleeve Mock-Neck Mod Mini Dress If florals aren't you're thing, this print is a mod nod to the spring trend without being too on the nose. Updates writer Ellen McAlpine added the style to her closet and says, "The shift silhouette is comfortable, flattering and versatile. The fabric feels more like a sweater dress, so it's been a great piece for the in-between seasons' weather." It comes in six other prints and colors, all in petite and plus sizes too. Hill House Home The Matilda Dress Hill House Home is one of our favorite places to shop for timeless spring dresses, and Sarah Tam, Rent the Runway's chief merchant officer, agrees. "This Hill House Home dress, with its ballet-inspired neckline, smocked back, puffed sleeves and a sprinkling of delicate flowers, embodies both femininity and fashion-forward elegance, making it a perfect choice for spring," she says. Petal & Pup Tillie One-Shoulder Maxi Dress This elegant one-shoulder dress will take you through spring garden parties, weddings and any other special occasions. The simple silhouette is surprisingly forgiving, and the retro-inspired florals are even prettier in person. I can't wait to wear it to a summertime soirée. Just be aware that the style runs a little large, so I would size down if you're on the fence. Merokeety 3/4-Balloon-Sleeve Midi Dress We're all about comfort, and this T-shirt dress provides just that. A few of our editors tried it out, and we love the soft jersey material and the cinched waist that gives it a lovely silhouette. A great option for work or a day off, the laidback style comes in nine striped our review Maggy London Placed Print Stretch Cotton Midi Shirtdress Cindy Conroy, celebrity stylist and TV host, loves the statement-making print of this style, along with its short-sleeved silhouette. The illustrated palm trees and tropical landscape are fit for your next getaway. Tuckernuck Black Double-Face Flannel Gianna Dress Made with a heavy, soft flannel that's great for transitioning seasons, this dress is "perfect for the minimalist woman who likes her wardrobe to be more on the neutral side," stylist and style coach Samantha Dawn says. The simple neckline and belted waist gives it what Dawn calls a "a classy yet feminine vibe." Madewell Seamed Mini Dress Madewell makes some of our favorite denim. This shirtdress uses the brand's signature Airy Denim, which is a cotton and Tencel blend that is light and soft. This means it isn't as rigid as other denim dresses and instead has a figure-skimming, flowy fit. Patagonia Amber Dawn Dress Newsletter editor Lindsey Smith says this organic cotton dress is "super comfortable and flattering." It has crossed straps and an easy fit-and-flare silhouette. "I love that it comes in a variety of colors," she says. "I have the black one and pair it with a denim jacket and sandals, but it also looks equally as good with sneakers." o.p.t Evie Cotton Dress If you're a fan of trendy brands like Reformation, Staud and Dôen and want to get the look for less, retailer Few Moda is the key. Many of the styles it sells are made by the same manufacturers of the brands you already know but are available at a fraction of the cost with a cheap monthly membership. I love this sweet cotton frock from o.p.t for spring, inspired by a $250 designer style. Hyacinth House Pink Tweed Kit Minidress Stylist Katie Schuppler loves this pretty pink number. "This dress is a great option to rock the 'prep' trend without leaning too much into it," she says. "It's feminine, classy and classic while still being fashion forward." Hill House Home Corinne Nap Dress "Marrying elegant, demure style with grungy plaid is a tall order, yet this dress delivers," Conroy says. The cottage core-inspired silhouette adds a touch of romance, while the plaid cotton can carry you through multiple seasons. Endless Rose Sequin Chiffon Maxi Dress A special occasion calls for some sequins and chiffon. Schuppler says this dress is "a great option for a daytime party but could also be worn for an evening event as well. It's whimsical yet sexy." According to the stylist, pistachio is a hue we'll see a lot of this spring. Kimchi Blue Virginia One-Shoulder Bow Midi Dress Testing and updates writer Michelle Rae Uy is on the hunt for a party dress for spring and summer, and loves the flirty details of this polka-dotted dress. The ruffle trim and bows give it an extra-festive feel. Bardot Adoni Mesh Maxi Dress "I splurged on this dress last spring, and it quickly became a staple in my wardrobe," associate testing writer Carolina Gazal says. "I've dressed it up with heels for weddings and even wore it with a denim jacket and flats." The lace overlay dress comes in several shades, including a trendy butter yellow, Aqua, Lilac and more. Quince 100% Washable Silk Slip Dress A year-round favorite, this simple dress comes in 18 colors and prints. "This slip dress is a perfect base layer for the spring," Smith says. "It's gorgeous on its own, but there are so many different ways you can wear it by layering other pieces." Endless Rose Sleeveless Textured Midi Dress "The embroidery of this dress is so unique and could be used for more than your next beach vacation," Dawn says of this midi dress. It comes in seven colors, from vacation-ready ivory to this deep Wine shade that's been everywhere this year. Never Fully Dressed Safari Erin Dress This satin dress could easily be dressed up or down. "The color and the subtle print of this dress adds so much personality to your personal style without looking tacky," Dawn says. "The dress is classy and fun." It's also a size-inclusive option, coming in plus sizes and petites. Banana Republic Stretch-Poplin Long Midi Dress "A strategically placed cutout adds a daring touch to this ultra-feminine spring dress," Conroy says, adding, "I love that it's in one of the most-talked-about hues of the season: fruity red." The cotton style features a sweetheart neckline, gathered waist and full skirt for a comfortable and flattering effect. Because spring can look so different across the map, the season's trends don't always translate for your locale. That's why the stylists say to focus on the silhouette, length and versatility of your dress options, rather than focusing on trend-driven details. 'I would pay attention to the cut of the dress as that changes your visual shape overall,' Dawn says. 'Different strap widths can affect the shape of your shoulders, while the skirt volume can affect your overall proportions.' Conroy says to ask yourself, 'What makes you feel beautiful and comfortable?' This can mean opting for a long-sleeved dress in an airy material so you still get that coverage or choosing a style that works with flats. 'Remember that a spring dress doesn't always have to include towering heels,' she says. If you like to have fun with trends, the Schuppler says bohemian dresses, preppy styles and pistachio green are ones to watch. Dawn adds powder pink, chartreuse and icy blue to the trending colors, while lace patterns and bold florals are making a comeback too. The following FAQs have been answered by stylists Cindy Conroy, Samantha Dawn and Katie Schuppler. How do you style a spring dress? How do you style a spring dress? 'Some places are still cold, so if this is the case for you, I would layer the spring dress with tall boots and a blazer or bomber jacket,' Dawn says. 'You could also pair your sundresses with sneakers for a more casual look.' Conroy adds that you can strike a balance with a sweater dress and ballet flats. If the weather permits, embrace the warmth and 'start styling your dresses with open-toe sandals or loafers,' Dawn says. What is the best fabric for a spring dress? What is the best fabric for a spring dress? The stylists recommend light fabrics that are good for layering. 'Cotton and linen will be your most breathable fabrics to wear,' Dawn says. 'Silk is also a natural fiber that can make you feel more luxurious in your dress.' Other more formal suggestions from Conroy include chiffon, crepe, organza and tulle. 'On chilly mornings or evenings, simply layer with a linen sweater, cotton cable knit or cotton-silk cardigan for added warmth,' Conroy says. What colors are best for a spring dress? What colors are best for a spring dress? Schuppler says pastels are a typical choice, 'but those colors don't always look good on everyone.' The stylist adds that you can choose pops of color or neutrals that are complementary to your skin tone. White or cream are always a good option, according to Dawn. She says you can also go bold with color. 'I love the lavenders and powder pinks that make your dresses have an even more feminine feeling,' she says. Meanwhile, Conroy calls out on-trend shades for spring like baby blue, olive and orangey-tomato red.
